Too long. Personally I'd hold off, I bought it about a year ago for under a fiver and it's been that price at least three times more since.

Depends how thorough you are. I'd say 10 hours for a standard run, but potentially double that if our seek out every nook and cranny, etc. I clocked in at just under 10 hours, as I recall.

    Nope, PS3. Genuine review code.

I still think the Zelda comparison is lazy. It doesn't have the monopoly over this genre. Darksiders 2, currently, plays more like Maximo and even Fable, than it does Zelda.

I'm only four hours in though, but if a wand turns up, if I go sailing across the sea, if my character develops blonde hair, if I obtain a bow or if I develop an urge to lob bombs at bosses glowing bits, I'll eat mowgli's chair.

definitely. Like any zelda/metroidvania, you could rush to the finish but you'll miss a lot of the out of the way exploration by doing so. That said, after the credits it dumps you back in the world so you can explore to your hearts content.

It's really not, it's not bad but level design, dungeons etc. are miles behind the (shitty in places) recent Zelda games.
Just saw this and you are in fact wrong imo. It is so much more varied and interesting than any Zelda has been in the last 10 years (WW was 2002 and even as much as I loved that it was unfinished).

I'm just as qualified as you to talk about Zelda games, without the inexplicable Nintendo hard on, thankfully. This game is most definitely not "miles" behind them.
If you were to actually read my post you'd see that I said that the level design and dungeons are miles behind, not every aspect of the game.
Ultimately, Darksiders became boring for me for a while and I couldn't be arsed with it, hopefully the sequel will be better.
Skyward Sword is one of the most infuriating games I've ever played with incredibly large failings (horrendous hand-holding, lack of real exploration and sense of freedom etc. but IMO it's still a lot more interesting and fun than Darksiders.

    Opinions, eh?

Zelda levels are pretty simplistic let's be honest.

Anyway, finally finished Darksiders 1, I had gotten to the boss and left it alone for yeaaars.

I can't say too much as any 'opinion' as such is embargoed until the 14th (I think print were allowed to go sooner, and I'm sure some sites will break the rule). However...so far technically it's performing very well indeed. I played the original on the 360, and this performs on a par with that.

And I agree, as a game, I think it's a 'sofa, big fat TV' type of game.

I can't say too much specifically, but this game is good on almost every level except for it's story, which is crushingly blah.

Completion time: 18.5 hours for the critical path.
Positive rumblings from the presumably NDA'd, and some earlybirds - and screenshots! (look on previous pages for more.) For PC, it looks like M&K is very playable. Also, loot!

I really do hope its a big success for THQ.

I know it's slightly silly but one of the main reasons I'm getting it day one at full price is that I bought darksiders for a pittance and actually felt slightly guilty after enjoying it so much that I feel I owe them.

There's rumbling afoot that Vigil and THQ have been guilty of a spot of wool-pulling and dished up to PC gamers a somewhat janky port with poor textures and horrible tearing.

Hope not, as I'd prefer it on the beige box.

Yup, embargo lifted today, so can talk a little more freely.

Thus far, as a 'game', it's better than Darksiders. As an experience (taking into account the story and the overall feel of the game)...the jury is out for me. Only eight hours in, and hoovering up side quests as well, so need to spend more time with it considering it's probably around a 30 hour game all in and I haven't progressed the story enough, but I think I enjoyed the original more though.

Can easily see why it got an 8.

Ah, no. Didn't mean to imply that.

I meant I can see why it's worthy of an 8, even though thus far I'm not entirely convinced it will end up better than the original.

It's a slow burner of a game it seems, so to sum it up now and even attempt to give it a final score, when I'm barely a quarter of the way through story wise, wouldn't be doing it justice. So just saying I can see how it could be worth an 8 at the end.

I'm extremely tired. Apologies if that doesn't make sense. I've had four hours sleep in the last 52 hours and barely functioning.

Edit: Six hours sleep. Not that it's important to the thread though! ;o)

I deliberately haven't read the review as I don't like reading other people's work before I write my own, so don't know the context. I did check the score though, and did notice the headline, which means I've already had to change mine. And I was particularly pleased with that too.
