Any chance of loading the advert above the forum first as opposed to last? It seriously fucks up my screen taps on the ipad when it shunts everything down.

there is a switch in options (top right of site) which turns off notifications. ;)
Oh you're funny, forcing yet another Notification!

There is also a switch on my desk that makes all 5 members of One Direction catch fire, which (unfortunately) functions equally badly. Both are just there for show ;)

Kirby is the man! Even if he wasn't, he'd just ingest and become one.

When viewing a thread, The page loads and then the posts load about 1 second after it. My brain does notice this and does not approve of this.

Even nu-skool flava I was getting less and less threads in general gaming. Now I have none. :)

Tell it to the cleaning lady on Monday.

Something weird is going on, must be a bug. There's now more than 3 threads showing on the front page of the forum! And no-one's informed me of where I can see the latest Champion's League/Premier League/La Liga match in absolute ages. This forum's changed man.

We've had a bit of a problem with spammer in the last few days. You've probably noticed. To combat them we've just implemented a cooloff period for new accounts, meaning new users can't threads until 7 days after their signup date. It should mean the spammers should be quietened for now.

The cooloff period will most likely be a temporary measure until we can find a more permanent fix that's less heavy-handed for new users. We'll let you know what we come up with early in the week.

It's easy. New users can only submit to 1 thread, where we, the hive mind, decide if they're acceptable after a rigorous round of Q&A.

Personally, I think we should keep some sort of cooloff period. Let noobs discover the existing threads that are better to use than make a new thread for every random bit of tat.

@MrPon @KayJay If the site HTML declared the img element size, a well behaved browser ought to leave a blank space for it until it loads it in. But then EG wouldn't be the the only site that doesn't do this for adverts, so I guess there may be reasons.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Rather than a cooling off period, how about a verification scheme that only allows a few posts a day and no thread creation until a mod checks a box that says they're verified to spam the place up like the rest of us plebs.

You'd have the added bonus of being able to stop selected people creating threads at all. Fruit.

Then if they turn into a spammer aforementioned mod gets a stoning.

I've also seen other places have a minimum number of posts before you're allowed to make a thread of your own which is another, slightly more automated, option.

That's not a bad idea -- we'll probably introduce rate limiting of some kind, where the number of threads/posts you can make each day increases the longer you've been a member of our mighty community.
