This thing is coming out tomorrow on PS3 apparently. Having "rented" video online the last couple of years, the idea of watching them with surround sound and (hopefully) better quality than rigorously packed Flash Video appeals to me. Site says 3/3.6 per movie which is less than I pay currently.

Quite interested about the quality of this service, sounds actually like an EU version of Netflix actually.

Lovefilm is more akin to Netflix - a mix of TV and movies that are streamable alongside a disc-rental service. MUBI looks to be a decent a-la-carte rental service for indie and world cinema, which is really neat. Both services launch this month too :-D

But unfortunately Lovefilm is very limited in its streaming offer across Europe.

I think this sounds interesting. Let's hope the quality in audio and video is decent, and that this will spark a faster evolution of PS3 video services across Europe and not just in UK.

No. Let's hope it heralds a new era of UK only services. Who cares about the trolls over the channel? Fuck 'em. It's down to them and their ridiculous language requirements that we sometimes have to wait for games to be released.

I'd just be happy if there was a PSStore that was supported in my Country. The very idea of allowing Streaming here is enough to send the MD's of the local cable networks into cardiac arrest.

Looks like I picked the right week to get fibre optic installed.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

The trailer at the bottom of the EG story about this was awesome.
And rather handily it seemed they listed all the films shown in the video at the end.

Some I recognised as having seen, I think.
I may get myself a playlist going and sign up for this for a month and see how it is.

    Keep this stuff coming Sony.

A worrying detail: I've registered at the site and "movies available at your location" was much poorer and generally shit than "movies available".

It wouldn't surprise me if 39 distributors have the rights in Sweden and whoever's in charge of Mubi hasn't bothered clearing them for different territories. I hope I'm wrong though.

valli, did the same and got the same experience here in Denmark.

Do you use Voddler? Perhaps sometime in 2015 we'll have that on PS3. That'd be nice. I wonder how far ahead USA will be by then. Streaming options alone maks me wish I lived in that part of the world.

Yep, I was right. Browsing the ALL category in popularity order and pretty much nothing there is available here. Ironical that stuff like Bergman's "The Seventh Seal" cannot be watched in Sweden! Get ready to see this disclaimer a lot:

If we had it our way, you'd be watching this film right now instead of reading this message.

Our goal is to show the best of cinema online at MUBI. Until then, we're keeping a database of some of our favorite films and yours too that you can review, rate, favorite, and discuss in our forums. Rest assured, we are working hard to acquire the rights to show all our favorite films all around the world.

Keep checking back good things can come to those who wait.

Just gave this a short spin. The image quality is good enough and the movies load quickly (I do have a rather quick internet connection, mind). Would be nice if the overview loaded a bit faster, but other than that it seems pretty good.

had a quick look, very nice interface.

How does payment work, does it pull right from PSN?

I find the interface a little confusing, but suppose I'll get used to it. Haven't yet managed to find a free movie to test the interface though, and I don't seem to be able to find anywhere to see prices either. Hmm. Just had a quick look though, so I guess I'll have to investigate further later on.

    From the main menu:
    Triangle
    "Watch"
    Square
    Move across to "Show Me"
    Select "Free"
    Press X

Edit: and give the Alice in Wonderland one a go, its actually bloody good given the date it was made.

Signed up for a month, cancelled the auto-renewal about 25 minutes later. Very few films available. I'll have a look through what they recommend at some point tomorrow, not hopeful at the minute.

457 movies available in my territory? All of the movies that are not available I can rent at any movie store. Needs to have a bigger library available really.

    Nice interface though.

Yeah, shockingly limited at the moment. A bit pointless I dare say, hopefully LoveFilm will be better.

already too late for that. I'm almost certainly not going to bother checking it again. especially as the interface makes it quiet difficult to work out what is and what isn't available. I was all ready to throw a tenner at this as well
