I think saying it's some of the best television ever is one of the greatest stretches I've ever seen, but I liked season 9 as well.

I don't know what season it was in, but it was when I saw the episode where they go to Japan that I really noticed the shift in style.

Someone earlier described the downfall best as "the moment Homer was aware of his own stupidity." I honestly can't think of a better way to put it.

Homer has changed the most over the years, and definitely not for the better. He was such a great character when he was a good father who was a bumbling idiot. Now he's just an idiot from top to bottom and has much less appeal.

I'd agree with that. He does so many stupid things that I just can't sympathise with him anymore.

Watching Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie... the writing in this is just brilliant. I miss it, though the new ones have definitely picked the series of it's floor.

I've noticed a lot of posts and comments lately where people use "Boourns" incorrectly. It's not the same as booing, it's the opposite.

There's been a certain amount of smut in this newest season, the one of the top of my head is Nelson wanking....

I'm actually really enjoying the new episodes right now. It's gotten good again.

Family Guy, on the other hand, is just about done for me. Some utterly abysmal episodes of that lately.

The talent at Family Guy is spread too thin between the other shows. There's no reason it can't go on for a long time, since it's basically a sketch show held together by a loose plot.

I never thought it was that great, so it's still about as good as I thought it ever was.

Futurama is the far superior show.

    As as Family Guy /runs

Yeah I can't remember exactly what happened, but he went behind a bush and made excited noises, and then finished and said "And now, shame" or words to that effect.

There was another smutty reference in the same ep and then again in the following one.

    Cant remember the details exactly.

The moment I realised the series had definitely sunk into dismality (word) was this weird episode when Homer was about to be executed for murder, then it was revealed to all be a reality show hosted by Carmen Electra. Horrible topic, characters acting ridiculously (and no in the fun, silly way), nonsensical 'plot', pointless cameo, no laughs... summing up everything that makes modern Simpsons so lazy and loathsome.

So there's now a thing where they have Edna Krabappel and Ned Flanders hooking up, and for the first time since Who Shot Mr Burns, it's a 2 part episode. The first part was recently, the second will be at the start of the next season. People can vote on whether they should hook up or not.

    Watch the episode here:

    Vote here:

I quite like the idea, something fresh in The Simpsons happening. Vote yes if you want to give the Simpsons a chance to return to form.

I don't want it to return, I just want it to end. Season 5 was the peak after that the quality started dropping then the quality went off a cliff and into the earths core around season 11-12, why on earth it is still going I can not understand.

Saw one last night where Homer and ned were Bounty Hunters. Had a terrible terrible chase sequence that just felt like a shitty version of the family guy chicken fights. Really bad and so utterly out of character.

I only have the first 7 seasons and don't intend buying any more, one of my favourite episodes is "Homer The Heritic" where homer decides not to go to church during a freezing morning and stays home just slobbing around,It was something I could relate to with say skiving work on a snowy morning. I can't relate to anyting in their new episdoes, it's just a series of one liners in a barely functional plot.

I haven't watched a new episode in ages. Is it still a cram-as-many-celebrities-as-we-can-in-a-half-hour fest?

These days they tend to do a normal episode, then do one where a huge emphasis is on the celebrity.

People should lighten up IMO. This thread came to mind last night while watching Family Guy. Sure, neither are as good as they were but both bring a smile to my face and have the odd good scene. I like the familiarity. And yes I know that breeds contempt. Just treat them like an old friend that you have little in common with. With respect and some long dissipated affection.

Fuck me, what drivel for this time of the morning

Dougs you pretty much summed up what I was going to say.

(American Dad is where it's at though)

Add me on Nintendo network! I'm 'Sy' or 'Sy_the_Brit_1982' (I've got US systems, hence 'the_Brit').
