    My impressions of the games on show;

Crysis 2: Well where do I start with this one. The first machine I went too with this playing was sat at a black screen seemingly having frozen. Not a good start, although I did later find out that if I had pressed Y I would have been able to play good job marking that one guys. When I did get to finally play I was shocked, not with how good with the graphics were or how good it was. Quite the opposite in fact. It looked like total crap, ran so badly it looked like it was running at about 5fps and after 2 minutes it managed to kill the xbox it was running on. In fact the crysis 2 stand had at one point 3 xboxs with the RroD. With the news that the multilayer is being developed by the people that made Haze I literally couldn't be less enthusiastic about this game now. One thing that did peak my interest though was the option to turn on 3D. 3D coming to xbox 360 soon then??

Bulletstorm: Right opposite the crysis two stand looking prettier and running smooth as. Top marks there the demo for this was really very short but from what I played it was a nice break from the serious gritty shooters that ive grown jaded of recently. Looking forward to having a blast with this when it comes out.

Gran Turismo 5: I'd had the privilege of playing this a month or so ago at a Sony event here in Reading. Much of the same as id already played, looks amazing cars handled well sounds were very good. Didn't manage to see it in 3D at the show but having played it in 3D before all I can say about it is that is sucks. Without a doubt the worst 3D of any game I saw. Having the HUD float above the screen and the last foot of the car hang out is not going to make me spend a fortune on a 3D TV.

Killzone 3: Again id already played this. I was very impressed, I thought Killzone 2 was a decent shooter but number 3 looks like a whole different kettle of fish. Flying around with the jetpack with waves crashing over the side was awesome fun. My main complaint from the first game was fixed too, the movement and aiming were very fast not like two where it would take an age. Also the 3D in this is superb to be honest having depth in a shooter is awesome. Shrapnel flying past your head being able to gauge distance, it really added to the experience.

Fallout New Vegas: Didn't want to play too much of this as its one of my most anticipated games. I watched the short intro (which I loved) and I had a wander around a casino small graphical improvements and the much more colourful world are looking awesome. I CAN NOT WAIT!!!!

Hunted: The Demon's Forge: One of my dark horses, the idea of a loot gathering co-op dungeon crawler sounded like an amazing premise for a game. I had a Bethesda PR guy stand with me and my mate as we blasted through the demo of this one. One sound-bite he gave that caught my attention was 'the fallout mmo is bullshit and a cash-grab from the devs' nice one PR man. Otherwise he was very informative and helpful. The game itself was obviously early as the graphics were rough and it froze on us twice (not in a totally destroying the xbox crysis 2 style way), however I had good fun playing it and having the game swap as you play with is a nice touch.

Medal of Honor: Had a couple of games of this I dont need to go into much depth. Imagine if battlefield and COD had a bastard child, this would be it. Good fun though.

Rockband 3: Ive never liked rockband as much as I have guitar hero. Although the menus are slicker and the songs often better I always though that it played like shit. This confirmed my opinion. Not imressed, although the pro guitar look totally insane!!

Trials HD: WHERE WERE THE NEW LEVELS THATS ALL I REALLY WANTED TO SEE!!! Still I had a long chat with the developers those guys are awesome, and I was seemingly the only person there setting any platinums!!! :D

Kinect: Didnt have a go on this in the end my opinions were already that it blows chunks and from the quite frankly sickeningly obnoxious stands for it I hope I never have to play one. I felt sorry for the trials HD devs being put next to the kinect dance game stand. Listening to that shite blast out at 100db all day must have started to grate.

Gears of war 3: It's gears of war not much more I can say about it :S

I think it might be too early to call Crysis 2 out on its frame rate, quite often games are choppy much closer to release than this. And while describing the multiplayer as being "by the people that made Haze" doesn't sound promising, try saying it as "by the people behind Timesplitters 2" instead! ;)
  • Deleted user 3 October 2010 00:05:26
I wasn't impressed by the Crysis 2 PC build either. Definitely a more stable frame rate than the 360 but the engine didn't impress hugely- certainly not the same big leaps we're used to. The game itself wasn't up to much either - gone are the wide, open, anything-goes gameplay of old and replaced by more corridors with skies and turgid set-pieces. On the other hand if anyone has a bad word to say against the people who made the TS2 multiplayer I'll have their balls for trophies.

Enslaved - looked nice but the controls are sluggish, the camera slightly unhelpful, the platforming pretty much non-existent and the combat is boring.

Move - I hope that the archery was badly set up because the controls were terrible, though I think that was a calibration issue. SOCOM was pretty boring as a game and showed that, whilst more accurate and better than the Wiimote, the Move games will all suffer from the same problems that Wii games do. Meh, all in all.

    Fable 3: See Fable 2

    LBP2: See LBP

CastleVania - Quite impressive. Hopefully the full game has the familiar Castle-explore-em-up thing going on because that combined with this = good.

    3D on a PC > 3D on a TV

Fractal (Indie) - Hugely addictive and very satisfying

Gemini Rue (Indie) - Very promising adventure game with a great Retro style

Frozen Syntapse (Indie) - Had a really good idea which we couldn't actually get to work well. :/

I can't forgive them after haze overwrites the awesomeness that were the timesplitter games.

    /sigh

Id say rockband does everything better apart from the gameplay. Which is shite.

By shite do you mean the same but the charts have a passing connection to the actual music, unlike GH's complete randomness?

I think Crysis2 EGE demo is the same as E3 demo, so probably... no difference. But, I have a question about US army character model.

    Please check this
    http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/5334/soldiercomp.jpg

Crysis2 US army character models in E3 demo/official trailers are like that. Looks bad. Their poly-count is low-mid setting in Crysis1. Crysis1's are much much better. So, how about the character models in PC version EGS demo? They replaced better models? or same model?

    Pretty successful day yesterday.

The Brink queue was epic but worth the wait as you get a good 20 mins play. I really liked the forced teamwork nature of the multiplayer. What I mean is (because that sounds bad) you all co-operate because it makes sense, I've played far too much co-op and team based games that were just two or more people on a screen in the same colour. This was much better with everyone playing for the greater good.
The objective signposting is good, the guns feel and sound powerful and the SMART free running system is good enough minus a few niggles due to some odd low ledges. Controls weren't particularly intuitive beyond the run and gun parts. Didn't see the hold X to plant turret option till late on, but I'm sure these things will be walked though during the actual game, it'd all be easily picked up, pretty frantic in the demo played so no time to stop and work it out. Great though.

Enjoyed Medal of Honor, infinitely better than the Beta a few months back. Though sucked that my TV had the sound off, didn't know I was being shot at till they hit me and then it was generally too late. Looking forward to it now, I'm more Bad Company than COD but can see how both sets of fans would enjoy it. Limited classes are still a concern but I'm sure customisation will be huge. I reckon it's good for an 8 on current merits so long as it has a bit more depth which I'm sure it will.

Bulletstorm was a surprise, much more interested having played it. The chain grenade gun is a lot of fun! Though the lasso and kick thing felt a little gimmicky, I'm sure there'll be more applications for it in the full game. Will have to see what competition it has when it arrives but will probably pick it up if it gets 7/8's.

Motorstorm in 3D was a mess, wasn't sure my glasses were working till I checked another game. Killzone 3 was better but I agree its hard to focus beyond the gun.

Kinnect was fun, but I'm still not sure it's 100+ fun for a gamer like me. Lag was minimal though and I think it deserves the hype. Move didn't do enough more than the Wii, even though the archery was impressive (probably less excited as I lack the PS3) the 50 price point seems fair. Not the evolution that Kinnect is though, I can see Kinnect selling well to it's target audience, I still need convincing with a few more games.

Fallout New Vegas looks great, good news as I loved 3. The intro was good and the extra colour surprisingly welcome too. All in all it looks like a great game is getting bigger and even better so I will certainly pick that up.

Picked up Reach cheaper than Amazon on the way out, post finally playing it, so all in all a really good day. Well done Eurogamer!

I am disappointed at lack of at least a glimpse of some of the new tracks, even if they were non-playable. Seeing as it's I'll forgive them as I'm sure when they do get round to releasing Big Thrills it'll keep me busy for months on end again.

Did you get your certificate for beating Jorma the dev then?

Nintendo's "stand" was weak, but I did not expect a lot, having followed EG's "What's On" Expo page for a long time. Epic Yarn looked lovely. Those waiting (and there were a lot) for Skyward Sword were advised "3 hours wait". I would have popped my head into the closed off curtained cupboard, but who knows what was going on in there...

As for Trials HD, I wanted to slap a dev's face for "King of the Hill", but never got close enough.

I was there Friday and had a great day, with some different opinions.

I liked the Nintendo stand and thought both Donkey Kong and Kirby were excellent, immediately pre-ordered Kirby for my 6 yr old daughter.

In general I was disappointed with the 3d games, but that is because I have a 3d tv and play a few of the PS3 games including Motorstorm 3d rift and they are all far, far better than what was on show. I am not sure whether this was due to my Panasonic being better or some other setup problems - I certainly know a lot of the Tvs were passive and the active ones had some glasses that had run out of power.

NFS: Hot Pursuit was fantastic, especially the 8 player online - got to play the single player as well as the dev network failed for a time.

I was very impressed with Kinect, played Joyride and although not the most interesting game the control was good and showed that it could reallly be different and work. This is not for twitch gaming it is different.

E3 demo, played live with commentary from the art director JJ Belletete. Nothing new, but awesome all the same.

Edit: @X201 yep, they played a portion of it using a cloak augment and showed a few of the stealth kill moves etc.

What is this nonsense? No mention of Marvel vs Capcom 3 at all in this thread. Despicable. Easily game of the show, along with Brink. Easily.

I could barely even see the bloody game, let alone get to the front of the queue!
