I've just gone back to painting after a good 20 year break. Shit. Is it really 20 years ? Fuuuuck.

Anyhow, my reason for return was due to restarting HeroQuest and wanting to do the figs right this time around.

I lucked out and someone gave me a bag of figs to practice on. All the GW paint range has bloody changed, but I love the paints I've tried so far. It took me a day to paint 4 skellies and I only did a white undercoat and devlin wash. Got some more paints for the mummies, I've really missed doing this.

My question is, for skellies I did the wash quite thick. Is it better to do a couple of washes or will that gradually muddy everything ?

You can just go back over any bits that are too dark with bone paint (whatever it's called now).
Skellies should look just fine with shade and a quick drybrush.

Anyone know of any decent Zombie minis? I've started painting a Zombie Horde and currently have a few models from Cold War Miniatures.

Obviously I don't want any duplicates so once I've finished that range I'll be looking for more.

My camera is pretty shite, so excuse the poor quality.

    Here's some

    http://guillotinegames.com/img/minis.jpg

    From this game

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/zombicide

Games Workshop do zombies, but they are fantasy rather than modern, might work with head swaps or something

In other news, White Dwarf has had its biggest makeover for a decade or so with the new issue - slightly smaller, more pages, higher price. And a new Chaos Marine codex in a fortnight, first 40K hardback codex.

    Damn, nice job.

Personally I always get distracted by little mod projects (not to a high quality or anything, just kinda kit-bashing stuff with some green stuff). Last one was a Skaven Warlord on Bonebreaker who I swears glares at me any time I dare even consider painting yet another fucking clanrat.

    Really nice as usual, Leolian!

I've got back into painting a bit recently. Just about to finish a daemon prince and an orc on a boar funnily enough. Try and get some pics up.

I'm also trying to paint up a Dark Vengeance box to sell. The quality of the models they're putting out now, even in a starter box is phenomenal.

Well, no games for a while, so I mulled over dragging THE BOX out of the loft, a huge collection of lil' boxes inside crammed with 40k stuff I haven't looked at in 12+ years. Xmas decorations had to go back up, and I couldn't resist temptation.

    Oh lord.

Starting with my half-finished White Scars army, who were relatively complete at one point, before I started reorganising and remodelling the vast majority. Tasty Dread too, canon be damned.

    Main body 1
    Part 2
    Taxi !
    Damn the naysayers !

Command squad and Scouts are there too, but in progress too.

A few more boxes, and the beginnings of a Biel-Tan Eldar army. Loved the vehicles, Falcons and Vipers galore, with a Fire Prism counter-weighed with shotgun cart pellets, due to the metal gun. Remembered I'd bought the new plastic Guardians to replace the old metals (sold) without realising how bloody fiddily they were. Not even assembled ha !

    Falconsssss.

Space Wolves ?! When the hell did I paint/collect Space Wolves ?! Only one Long Fang too, and about fifteen more basic marines with undercoats/basics. Hmmm. Don't remember these at all.

    Space Wolves....whatever.

Aha, a bits box.....nope. A Chaos force, post Iron Warriors, planned to convert to Khorne. Think I was tanked in a local tourney with them, geared for anti-tank due to the numerous IG players, only to draw the lone Tyranid fancier. *sigh* Found the missing (converted) Long Fangs in there though.

    Literally, chaos.
    Best sword evah.
    Keith Flint ?
    AAARGH ! My eyes !

Been interesting trawling through it all, and after gaining a bit of enthusiasm painting some Jap mecha stuff recently (might notice the sneaky Patlabor head), I've got the bug back. Just need to fire through to the local GW stockist tomorrow for some new brushes and white paint. Lots of white paint. I'll probably bump some more in the future with better pics.

Or I'll give up yet again with lots unfinished. Ho-hum.

Oddly enough, I was just looking through the drawers of my 40k collection. I was looking for stashed drugs, mind, but hey.

My daughter and I painted up some Dark Elf Cold Ones over Christmas, surprising how fast you can paint with a well-supervised helper.

I'm saving up this year for a new paint set and new army - Bretonnians, Lizardmen or Tau, depending on which gets a great new army book/codex, the latter two are both rumoured to be out this year though the Brets have waited a decade already. Dark Angels on 12 Jan, here are the new Termies

Lizard men were the only army in fantasy I ever bothered with, they played a bit like overly specialised Orcs and goblins. Shame I gave it up before they fleshed out the army list. The only models you could get at the time were skinks, saurans and the toad dude. Might consider getting some again if they actually release some models for them this time.

Smart money seems good on Lizardmen getting an army book this year (probably late in the year/early 2014), but GW aren't always the most predictable of creatures in such regards.

Personally I'm going for Brets as a second army, but there's still a handful of Skaven things I want to have at my disposal. Then there's these endless Clanrats to paint as well... /sigh One day, one day...

I've promised myself that I wouldn't fall into the old trap of several half finished armies since I started 40k again. I've done well sticking to grey knights, excluding the dark vengeance dark angels as I bough that to boost my girlfriends chaos army.

Getting a fantasy army doesn't count right? Right?!?

In my defence - my Skaven stuff is pretty much assembled and playable, just not (all) painted.

And... you know... shiny new things!

Hey disusedgenius, did you see the photos of my Brets I posted a few pages back?

New Dark Angel miniatures in White Dwarf this month, I'm considering painting a couple of Deathwing squads for Space Hulk- have always been more of a Dangel than a Bangel! :-)

Missed that first time. Looks really nice though - love the banner. After so long painting the slightly dour Skaven I think I could really go for the bright, chunky paint style which Brets work well with.

Edit: And yeah, Vampire Counts are on my radar as well. A pity the Army Set sold out so quickly, really.

Some test Nids. Still using the old paint range, and haven't done nearly enough tidying/highlighting, just trying to decide if I want to do a Tyranid army, some of the models are great.

Nids have some ace stuff, fluff and model-wise, but are considered a bit of a rubbish codex. I have fun with them though.

Yeah I've been reading up heavily on the latest meta (and have the codex) - Flyrants, Hive Guard, Tervigons / Devilgants and Trygons seem to be the way to go, but I want to do an all plastic army, and am not bothered about how competitive it is (within reason).

I love the Warrior and Ravener models, though with the current rules for ID they are str 8 target dummies, better cover from the gribblies notwithstanding. Harpy model on the way next couple of months seems to be a good bet, Nids have to get a dedicated flyer soon, will need some new rules if it is going to be much use against enemy air.

Old Eldar Warlock from my sadly never completed Eldar army. Got a depressing amount of unpainted WH40K stuff in the cupboard. :/

    As couple of my offerings.

Unpainted yet, but these are my home-brew Skaven Plague Censer Bearers:

    1
    2

    Skaven Warlord on War-Litter
    1
    2

The only other news is that, if you're playing fantasy, do yourself a big favour and grab some magnetic paper and small magnets for your movement trays. Sooo much easier to deal with, especially with Skaven-like numbers...

    Scars
A week's progress, mostly finishing touches.
    Tac squad
    Bikes
    Heavys

Need to dig out a better camera. As for painting, it's still worse than Monster Hunter Claw for knackering my old, shaky hands, and my ability hasn't waned nor improved over the years. Hmmm. Freehand painting the WS insignia on curved, white shoulders is the most agonising part for now, especially as every one is probably unique(!) in some awful fashion.

Command and Assault squads next, along with the multitude of Rhinos, and there's parts for a Veteran squad, with a decision whether to use salvaged Rough Rider heads, or just the hats for the Mongol vibe.

Really nice. Very clean finish. The freehand chapter badges look great too.

I got distracted half way through my Dark Vengeance plan and am now making an all-flying Blood Angel army. Already my eyes are drawn to the new Dark Angel stuff though...

Oh, for an ounce of dedication!
