It's gorgeous, has a large sensor, fast 35mm lens, shoots 720p video and it's gorgeous. Details here: DP Review

Seems to be a Leica X1 done properly. -
It has to be in the same price bracket as the current crop of EVIL cameras so £600-700 would be a fair price.

Registered 11 years agoWas about to post a thread about this jewel. Seems to be out in JP, not a single word anywhere else. Where did you get that price from K_S?
Seems to compete well with the Leica and Olympus similar rangefinders price wise. Leica is just a joke, unless you have a Leica stash already and Olympus has the interchangeable lens advantage. Samsung has a nice retro looking cam as well now:
http://www.dpreview.com/previews/samsungnx100/
"Retro" is only secondary really - although a nice bonus with the most important being a quality and compact camera to replace the DLSR when needed. I like Fuji's choice to go for the rather wide 35mm equivalent, as well as not BSing around about not having an ISO 100 setting.
Not sure about their glass quality but surely they are one of the best ones from way back?

Registered 11 years agoSome more details have appeared on Fujifilm's website. Nothing massively surprising - only 720p video (though I suppose it's a surprise it does video at all), no IS/VC (big deal at 35mm, huh), built-in ND filter (missed that first time round), in-camera RAW conversion (though it doesn't say what settings you can change).
Sensor does 200-6400 which IIRC matches the D300s.Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

But I must say that my main reason for wanting this is it's gorgeous looks. If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Registered 9 years agoLovely camera but it's in the realms of expensive toy when there are other more capable similar priced sized cameras around for a 2nd camera.
Wouldn't kick it out of bed mind. -

Registered 8 years agoSounds like a great compact, however (and I know I'll sound like a heathen in saying this), the lack of any zoom would probably piss me off.Paintings & Photographs

Edit: @scuzzbag - I can't think of another camera in the same category as this for a similar price. Closest thing I can think of is the Oly EP2 with 17mm pancake, and that's 300 quid under the projected X100 price. Although if you add on the electronic viewfinder it's only 150 quid cheaper, but a fair bit bulkier now.Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

I doubt it. It's being sold as a proper ND filter to allow you to use the lens wide open/at a longer shutter in bright light. A digital filter wouldn't let you do that, since it'd have already overexposed the sensor.

Same here. We don't know anything about the quality of the shots yet, or anything about its handling other than it's got lots of dials. Not that having lots of dials isn't a good thing, of course.Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Fuck that. I'd (maybe) have it for £500, but a grand?? -

Registered 10 years agoAt that price it's too close to the X1 imo. Admittedly the video gives it an edge, but for that kind of niche camera I suspect most of the market would prefer to have the lens quality of the Leica (not to mention the red dot). I would. -

Registered 11 years agoAt 800 quid it'd be the same price as a GF2 with a less extreme lens, smaller and prettier. It's probably easier to control too, what with having physical controls for things, but there are big questions about what they can do about focus speed and general performance. Still, it it can compete with the Olympus I'd say 800 quid is fair, bearing in mind you can change the lens on the Olympus. A grand puts it into a different league, sadly.Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Registered 8 years agoI'm after a new camera (look forward to yet another Recommend Me thread in the coming months) and I'm torn between making the jump into the DSLR realm or just buying another really good compact with full manual controls.
The trouble is, despite being pretty poor in low light and having a measly 4 megapixels, there doesn't seem to be anything else within a reasonable price range that offers significantly better specs. Which seems ridiculous as my camera is about 7 or 8 years old now.Paintings & Photographs

What have you got at the moment?
I don't think the X100 is designed as an upgrade path from compacts, or even as a follow on or second camera for DSLR users. It's a definite luxury item.Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!
