Right. I'm going to have to bin the partizan off. Have wasted all humanity and buffs trying to do capra and even the gaygoyles ffs.

Need some ideas for a random weapon!

    Spoilers ahead.

Good day yesterday, 4 Kings done (7th attempt), became a Darkwraith which is nice? Sounds nice...

I went to the Dukes Archives which was awesome, that place is cool. Actually beat an Invader in a fair fight, spent fucking ages trying to navigate through Crystal Caves and beat Seath the Scaleless in less than 4 goes. When in doubt use fire is my new Dark Souls motto.

And now I have no idea where to go, something about a Gravelord Nito and another orange barrier somewhere. I should pay more attention to things...

Either go to The Catacombs and beyond for Nito or beyond Quelaag for Lost Izalith.

Ok making progress. Think I've done most of the undead burg. Defeated taurus and spoke to whatshisname on the bridge. Now unlocked the shortcut from the bonfire.

Still a few unopened doors though in the burg.

I'm guessing undead parish is next?

Yes, but it might be worth having a look around in the undead burg first for someone that sells keys

Fair do's. There's definitely 2 doors to open, though one is a bit later on (lower undead burg).

Probably best to concentrate on the parish as there's various options around and after there

Yeah there is the little issue of the dragon too. But I dont think I need to defeat him to proceed right now.

    @quadfather

Reading your updates I can't say I've used the Partisan before either. Didn't realise it had such HUGE Str requirements, so that may account why I've not touched it.

My run's stalled over the weekend, but got some beer in, checking the latest PES14 update patch first (likely to break things worse though) so I'll carry on later - O&S are in my line of fire :)

    Speaking of which....

I got invaded in Undead Burg earlier. Just wanted to check I understand the 'rules'.

Am I right in understanding that it's good to have lots of humanity? Should I consume the humanity items I have looted or should I save them?

Am I also right in saying that I will only be invaded once I have reversed my hollowing at a bonfire in order to kindle it? So my humanity can be as high as I like and I wont be invaded as long as I am 'hollow'? Oh, and I assume I become hollow again once I die?

@robc84 It's risky to consume Humanities or Soul items. Once they're "live" in your onscreen counters, you can permanently lose them if you die twice. If they're still in object form they're safe.

Of course, you might want to take that risk.

If you die, you're hollow again, yes.

Edit: also, correct, you can't be invaded when hollow, but you also can't summon helpful NPCs.

@EMarkM Ah of course. I'd never consume souls in the field. Just wasnt sure what the benefits of having high humanity are?

Does it mean you can be invaded or do you have to reverse hollowing for that?

@robc84 You have to be human to be invaded. If you haven't reversed hollowing, you won't get invaded even if you have some numbers in the Humanity gauge.

You mentioned kindling before. You don't have to kindle a bonfire to become human, but you do already need to be human AND able to offer one more Humanity in order to kindle.

    @EMarkM Understood.

Does anyone here have any problems with the PC-version? It won't launch any more :(

Does it have anything to do with the fact that GfW's going the way of the dodo?

The more humanity you have affects the item drop rate you get (up to a max of 10 humanity). You don't have to be in human form to get this benefit, however.

Also, Humanity directly affects your resistances (fire, poison, curse etc) so a higher amount makes you harder to kill.

For a first time playthrough I'd say stick with kindling a few bonfires here and there just to get 10 Estus for the next area but don't worry about item drop rate or survivability. Later playthroughs you will likely want to reverse this though....

I would suggest only using your humanity to kindle bonfires on your first playthrough. Definitely for the first half of the game. You're likely to die regularly. Once you're debating whether to use a chaos rapier with a hornet ring and 10 stacked humanity or go with a +15 dex weapon, then you'll think about running around with at least 10 stacked humanity at all times ;)

    10 stacked humanity?

Still a bit confused about kindling. So that gives me extra estus flasks? Whats the difference between that and resting to refill. Does it not do the same thing?

Sorry for being a bit thick btw.

Hehe, no probs, this is what we were all trying to figure out when it was released :)

Most bonfires only give you 5 Estus flasks. A few (like Firelink, Daughters of Chaos and Anor Londo) give you 10 Estus flasks - this is because they have firekeepers at them. The vast majority do not, so get used to 5 Estus max.

You can up this to 10 by offering Humanity to the bonfire you are sat at. Reverse hollowing > kindle.

After a certain event you can up any bonfire to +20 Estus flasks (given you have enough Humanity).

Basically see it as basic or unupgraded bonfires. Once you've kindled it, it's set at whatever amount for perpetuity.

Lucerne's working out ok, I must admit it does a hell of a lot more damage than I thought it would (being a halberd and this character being predominantly a Str build). Still hate the moveset though.

On to Lord Soul areas, think I might +5 Chaos my Flamberge just for the hell of it :)
