    @EMarkM

    That ring changed Blighttown from a near-smashing of the controller type experience to a shout at the TV (i.e. considerably less infuriating) experience :D

    It's pretty essential for it IMO (of course, I did my first jaunt through there before I knew of the ring's existence, bah).

    @FuzzyDuck Heh, I'll have to see if I can find it.

    Just had another session in Blight Town. Got a lot further down, defeated a third sniper and shot at a huge octopus thing on the wall until it was dead. It seems permanently. Picked up a shield and another "soul of a..." but got battered by a fatty just as it was going well.

    You've got me intrigued about this ring, returning to the asylum, and also where the next Blighty bonfire is: how much more of this place is there? :)

    I wouldn't worry too much about the ring until you want to farm that area as it has one of the most difficult encounters to get to the ring and trying to get it too early will only lead to much frustration imo.

    You are a factory of sadness.

    @Goodfella Not yet; I was just making my way down there when Fatty Lumpkin went all clubland on my arse.

    Been ages since I played... Are you in the swamp section of it? If the fatty was on an island with other fatties, then the boss fight is just through there.

    Even if you do clear it without the ring, it's handy to have it for times when you have to pass through Blighty again, which you will be doing if you're a pyromancer and want to level up.

    Make sure you’re human and kill the Dark Spirit (Mildred?) in the swamp. When you get to Quelaag, she’ll be available to summon.

    @FuzzyDuck & LukeJones

    I don't think I got quite that far. Was still climbing ladders and walking on boards.

    If you can imagine looking straight at the mini boss I mentioned shooting off the wall, I was trying to make my way down to that spot, but I was still some way off to the right.

    You are right. You are still a bit far from the boss. Have you found a bonfire in Blighttown yet or not? There is one on the stone passages as you climb down and another when you reach the bottom, at the swamp.

    @JonFE Yep; my new "home" is the upper one on the stone walkway.

    Starting to get the idea this part of the game is fairly large.

    Yes, it's fairly large. I don't think I've fully explored it; I think there are a couple of shining bits left to collect.
  • Deleted user 9 November 2013 22:59:55
    @EMarkM Blighttown is actually quite small, there are just lots of different walkway levels. From where you are now, you could get to the swamp in around 10 minutes, killing everyone on the way, once you get to the swamp the bonfire is about a 30 second sprint from touchdown (so to speak).

    So I got up at 06:30, pretty much to have another session in Blighttown.

    I think I might have a problem.

    Onward!

    Dont forget to look around thoroughly when you get the bottom. Theres more to blighttown than meets your (deceiving) eyes

    @quadfather Intriguing.

    I'm just sitting at the lower bonfire now, taking a breather ;)

    Unfortunately I missed this piece of advice.

    Still, haven't done too badly. "Ding, dong, the Witch is dead," and all that.

    Currently mincing around in some once-lava-filled, now slightly emptier demonic hell hole. Been twatted a couple of times by the large horned demon guys that guard what looks like a yellow fog door.

    Having a rest now!

    @quadfather It's just dawned on me what you probably meant.

    If I was to say, "I.W. ahead?"

    Cock. It. Might have missed that one, although I have dealt with at least one today.

    If it is, is it anything worth going back for? You probably know where I am from the above couple of posts.

    @EMarkM - That'll be it.

    Think double.

    Edit - Yes, it's worth it.

    @quadfather Once again, intriguing. I'll have another bash this evening and see if I can work my way back. Sadly, I've used most of my arrows, which I've been finding an excellent, if longwinded and wasteful, way of dispatching those "mini" Taurus Demons that litter the place where I am :(

    Jesus. You've gone quite a bit further than I would have done straight after killing Quelaag. You killed Ceaseless and made your way right to the yellow fog door!?

    Ballsy.

    No, I genuinely mean "mini": they look like little horned demons with skull faces and twin swords. They just stand still when you shoot them, but are quite quick in melée.

    Heh. I was on a roll after damned Blighttown. I think I got lucky with Ceaseless, or the laddie has a glass jaw: I barely touched him.

    Mind you, brought "Impressive Chest" down on only my second attempt too. I think some things are starting to click. Some of all this excellent advice must be going in :)
