Woops. Yes, I thought you meant the exploding maggot sack people.
So it's just those big slimy slugs then? Easy enough so, just need more poison curing purple leafy things.

Many thanks gentlemen. I'm too tired tonight, but I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow when I'm off for the weekend. Can't actually wait to have a go now. Though I know my rustiness will have me dying silly deaths.

I really wanna try the trident out. It's got to be more powerful than the moonlight butterfly.

I use pole weapons alot for PvP, and it scales B with intel, C with dex, and E with strength.

If anyone on here has a character that can give me a channelers trident, i'd love to trade.

Heck when starting my Boneshield run I managed to get one in the 5th clearout of the Catacombs wheel skeletons yet some people almost never see one.

I've heard people saying the same about the titanite catchpole too.

Hang on, hang on, it's not *my* curse! It's a dark souls curse. I'm not being tainted with this!

Sorry man but you're the biggest and most well known sufferer of it, you're like Patient Zero for the Weapon curse, hence it shall forever be known as the Quadfather Curse.

It's an OK weapon, that is pretty much it sadly, it's main distinction are the two special R2 attacks, the singlehanded one is pretty nifty and can catch people offguard in PvP due to having a multi-hit component to it, so if they screw up a parry it can hurt. Of course the two handed R2 is the infamous happy dance which buffs allied phantoms for a short while.

Other than that, not too amazing.

So....are we saying that each dark souls player has their own bogey weapon? One that won't drop for you? Mine is clearly the bss . and Dr Mech's sounds like the bs shield

Is this the secret function of the pendant? Have I attained enlightenment at last? Did I take this job for a quick buck?

    Possibly!

I spent what felt like a fucking age trying to get Piscilla's Dagger. The Painted World was actually my favourite bit of the game. When I finally got the dagger, it no longer was :D

    Yes.

    FUCKING GET IN.

    Ahem.

    Ole Gapey's a goner.

Just opened the door to Blight Town and gone back to The Depths bonfire, having taken a round trip to the Parish blacksmith on the way :)

    Lev: 39
    Vit: 15
    Att: 11
    End: 20
    Str: 13
    Dex: 27
    Res: 10
    Int: 12
    Fai: 12

Currently sporting a BSS +6, Long Bow & Knight Shield +5, Gargoyle Helm and Hard Leather Armour, all + around 3 or so.

    Fear me now ;)

Plus, using the "swap weapon" button doesn't seem to un-nock an arrow, but I discovered up & down on the D pad give a little extra zooming!

So I beat the first boss with axe, turns out he was not that hard at all. Two more noob's question to help me decide on further action regarding this game, please?
    1) Is there no map/automap?
    2) Is there a leveling system in place that would be comprehensible to a player of standard RPGs?

Thanks in advance, and I've decided it is a good game.

One piece of advice for new players is the significance of endurance, it is very important as it dictates so much. As for classic rpg stuff, there are core stats that get upgraded automatically with every level, while really the rpg stuff is primarily so that you get to use certain weapons and their damage scales with certain stats. These stas can be seen when you choose your weapons.

You are a factory of sadness.

I'll repeat that just to emphasise how important that advice has been for me.

Get your Endurance up to a reasonable level. Blocking and the other things it affects are crucial in this game.

Choose the types of weapons you'd like to use and find out which stats they scale with, most usually Strength and/or Dexterity.

It takes good observational skills (took me a while to find it) but each weapon has E, D, C, B, A, S ratings for how much it scales with one or more of the stats.

You'll only realistically be able to level up one combat stat whilst alternating with Endurance, so choose one and concentrate on that.

Don't make this mistake of increasing a stat just to use what seems to be a powerful weapon early on (certain weapons cannot be used with low stats) only to find that weapon doesn't scale at all.

So going into the painted world 'for a laugh' after some beers last night turned out to be a stupid move. Haven't been there for ages and promptly got lost going round in circles

Yeah for a newbie I'd recommend levelling your combat stat, endurance and vitality, only raising the other combat stat (aka strength or dexterity) to meet the requirements to wield the weapon of your choice.

What kind of guy are you going to be a strength person (usually focuses on high endurance, vitality and strength, wears heavy armour and wields a bigass weapon which hits really hard but has slow swings) or a dexterity person (usually focus less on vitality, tend to wear lighter armours, weapon doesn't hit very hard but hits fast)?

Of course you can mix these things up a bit, be a heavy armour wearing dex character or a light armour wearing strength character etc.

Weapons can be roughly broken down into three selections, Strength, Dexterity, Quality. Quality is a harder one since it has lower scaling in Strength or Dex than a specialised weapon BUT it scales with both (usually a c rating in both dex and strength). Quality builds are far more stats intensive than a specialist weapon and usually reserved for more experienced players.

For your first playthrough I recommend picking a purely strength or dex character. Good Dex weapons that you can get early on (without sequence breaking) are the Balder Side Sword (which will require farming for) and the Uchigatana (requires killing the Undead merchant...perhaps not the best idea but it is a good dex weapon).

The Channelers Trident has all the right scaling though.

In PvP I use the butterfly horn spear, it ONLY scales B with INT

The Channelers Trident scales B with INT, C with Dex, and E with strength. Unlike the Butterfly Horn, it does physical damage aswell as magic, and fully upgraded its more powerful.

I think the only advantage with the horn, is that it has a higher reach.

Plus I like the idea of the double-tap attack, with the Leo Ring that could be brutal if both hits connect

Aside from Titanite Slabs, I've not had a problem with DkS's drop rates. But then I've only really played it rolling with whatever the games gives me.

Borderlands 2 however can go suck Ceaseless's dick. The drop rates there make DkS's doling out of the BSS look generous. And that game seems balanced to assume you have the elite drops, whereas in DkS you have a lot more freedom. You don't need any weapon or armour piece in DkS to survive.

Where did all the nice people go on Dark Souls?

On PS3, everyone I duel is being a right dick. Fighting unfairly, spamming magic, and then giving bad gestgures at the end if they win.

So to combat this, I'm using Havels shield. Muhahaha!!!

    LOL

    Well that does help.

I'm win most of my invasions or where I get invaded, its only when people wrath of gods 6 times in a row, then spam dark bead, and then message you saying "you're shit" when you lose to them.

Despite playing for a couple of years, I only found out a couple of months ago that "Need Humanity" messages were messages begging for a +1. I kept thinking, "Why do I need humanity for this bit?"

Does kicking do any damage? I was wondering about a kicking-only run, or just the specific challenge of kicking any dragon to death.

    ....probably not Kalameet.
