Your tips were great, I didn't have Havel's Set so I went and got it and then used it with the Crystal Straight Sword to smash the shit out of them!

I'm here to help, I'm a Sunbro at heart and this is one of the few games where asking for help is never a bad thing.

    \0/ Praise the sun!

As mentioned you'll need to begin practicing parrying as it makes the final boss much easier.

Dex based character, medium shield and Balderside Sword.

Possible secondary characteristics faith or strength.

Adventurer's set - yes or no.

( not too fussed about the cost. Getting plenty of souls while grinding for enough large titanite to take the BSS straight to +10, currently sitting on 30k souls)

Bugger it... I'll just upgrade the BSS to +10 and chuck the rest into dex.

But I have a feeling that if I want to start playing as human I need to focus my souls on other stuff than levelling so that I can withstand some invasions.

    Edit:
Demon below the blacksmith downed :-)

Elite Knight set picked up as well. BSS +10 is quite nice.

I didn't think I would come back to playing this again, but now I have! Just been on my mind too much lately. So gonna play as a sorceress this time. Different play style from what I'm used to so should be interesting!

yeah the Heater shield basically gives you the parry timing of the smaller shields (most of which are only good for parrying) but still giving 100% block. Of course if you want to be really fancy (and love taking risks) then you could use something like the parrying dagger (but I wouldn't recommend it).

You could also be a real man and parry with your bare hands.

I was thinking of bare right hand and target shield in the left when practicing parrying.

Yeah, that works. Practice on something that won't kill you if you fail. But of course keep in mind that the timing needed will differ depending on the enemy.

And some things can't be parried at all.

Havel's dead now though struggling to fill the extra weight allowance.

I've upgraded the leggings and the chest armour from the Elite Knight set to +3.

Think I'll get myself past that Golem room in the Dark Gardens and see what's past there.

Butterfly down now... Does this mean blight town beckons?

Guessing stocking up on some anti-curse stuff is a good idea.

No, you won't really need anti-curse stuff for a while. Anti-poison, on the other hand, will be very useful. And you're in the perfect place to stock up on antidotes.

I'll grab some more. Got some from trees I think or bought some earlier which was useful when a tree bit me.

Where's a good place to buy?

I've actually gone since the capra demon without failing to recover my corpse. So hopefully the resistance of 15 humanity isn't hurting.

Is ringing the lower bell is something I'd like to aim for now.

Just go around killing the shrubbery for a bit. They'll drop the moss clumps that cure the poison for you.

Think the spider shield is good for poison resistance

Getting a weapon with decent range or a vertical sweep would be a good idea for BT too, handy for taking out those bloody flies coming from different heights

Well, he'll come across the Spider Shield naturally if he goes through the Depths. Which I would probably do on my first time through the game, even if I'd chosen the Master Key as a starting item. It's a good learning experience!

The flies are easily taken out with a bow. Even a weak bow is enough.

I just came to announce that Four Kings are now officially dead. With my second try! I suppose I haven't beaten any other boss this easily. Bitch Weatrice helped me, though.

It would be tough to get that early in the game though.

Yep I start pretty much every game with 100 runs into the Catacombs to get it. There's actually two fairly easy ways of getting it but both involve the fairly tricky task of sprinting to flip a bridge.
