Cool. I do wub the Zweihander at the moment, but may go for some other sort of giant weapon afterwards. Perhaps a greataxe or club or something.

Black knight stuff is ok. The giant club isn't to be overlooked though

I personally do love the Black Knight Sword, it's not the most powerful sword by any stretch of the imagination, and its fairly short, and its attacks a little slower than other greatswords, and it can't be enhanced...actually on paper, other than the great starting damage its a bit average but it love it all the same.

"See this sword here mate! I killed a Black Knight for it!...BITCH!"

I'd recommend the Demon Great Machete over the Zweihänder. It's got almost all the same attacks but far better damage.

My last play-through was actually to test out the STR-weapons and my favorites thus far are the Machete, Man Serpent Great-sword, Black Knight Halberd and BK Great-axe.

Machete is way slower, and you'll end up killing everything in the same number of hits anyway. Maybe for bosses.

Machete and BK Greataxe are good if you're a bit clever and nimble with your controller, as the jump attacks are super quick and do nasty amounts of damage. The Greataxe heavy attack I'm seen recommended for PVP in here as well, due to insane range and the fact you mask the buildup with your body.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

I've just been 2-handing a Zweihander through most of the burg. Excellent.

If the areas where you can constantly get knocked off to your death continue like in Anon Londo then the game can go fuck itself.

Ahhh, the archers. Everyone has trouble with that bit. If you want to cheat a little, you can get one of them with poison daggers before he even starts tracking you. After that it's easy to go up.

And no, those areas don't continue.

That bit is so shit it's untrue. The key is sprint, sprint, sprint, roll, parry, riposte. Actually the key is know that there's a significant area around the guy to the right where the guy to the left can't get you so you can relax a bit when you're up alongside him. Saves you wasting loads of deaths panicking at that stage like I did.

Don't worry, that's probably the most annoying platforming bit in the game. From now on most of the hair-pulling will be fighting-related. :)

Cheers, I wonder if I can continue much more tbh.
I've put 60 odd hours into this and not sure if I can be arsed with many more hours of constant death when I have so many other things to play :-(

It's very much up and down, If I get past this boss I'll be happy again

You get something very handy after the next boss. imo Anor Londo is probably the peak of the game as far as difficulty is concerned.

For some reason I don't remember having as much trouble with the archers as most others seem to have. Now the Boss after them. That's another matter.

Just got hit by the first hacker I've met in PVP. Fucking great. Thank god it didn't leave any permanent damage.

Eeee, got backstabbed by some guy in the undead parish. He wasn't even behind me.

I hope they're not quite so easy to pull off in the sequel. Having played Chivalry, I have a pretty good idea of what my ideal Dark Souls combat will look like.

According to the RPS hands on it's much harder to pull off the back stabs, apparently you've got to be right behind the target now.

They seem to think the combat has been quite thoroughly rejigged with P2P in mind. Not sure how I feel about that but I'll wait and see!

I don't mind that. I mean, I suck at it, but I don't mind losing. Getting backstabbed from the front is a bit much though.

    @Armoured_Bear

Two hand your sturdiest shield, strip down to be as light as possible and run like fuck (take out the guy on your left first as you'll be out of the other guy's view).

To be honest, if you think that's bad, wait until you have to traverse the Crystal Cave - the enemies are manageable and it's probably the shortest area in the game but it does have you cross multiple invisible bridges that have curves that will lead to insta-deaths.

Dark Souls is one of my games of the generation, but that bit is cheap beyond belief.

Crystal Caves is fine once you know the route though, and finding it is fairly easy if you bring lots of those sounding stone things. Imo it's less unfair than other sections.

Drake Sword is a nice addition to Astero's sword. Better at crowd control.

Picked up a Balder shield that's a bit heftier. Pondering if that's worth upgrading a bit.

Thanks mate, I'm at the next bonfire now though, I used Poison Arrows and waited in the end. This talk of more cheapness doesn't make me a happy bunny :-(

Yeah, getting to that one is a huge relief.

I've got something funny happening with my 360 controller. I can run in any direction except directly forwards, which makes it really hard to go through obstacles, as I have to zigzag to keep my speed up.
