I rescued Lautrec in the Parish, but my research tells me that I really want his ring (the one that breaks if removed). He's currently sitting at Firelink Shrine. I'm planning a Dex build, so I don't need his armour. I gather that you can either kick him off the edge or use the Drake Sword shock wave, quit the game and go back in to grab it.

His armour aside, is there any significant disadvantage to my doing this right now? I could really use the HP & stamina boost.
It's certainly easy enough to boot him off. 1-2 kicks should do it. Then you quit/reload to get the ring.

Ring is good, but you start to rely on it a bit and never want to take it off because it breaks. So you're sort of stuck with only 1 ring slot. I try not to wear it now.

If you kill him early, you'll stop a particular chain of events that you may or may not want to participate in

Ha, hadn't realised about the Dingy Set. Thing is, it sounds like its main advantage is curse resistance, and as far as I can tell, that's going to be most useful in the Depths - ie before ringing the second bell, which you need to do before getting the set?
Curse, smurse :) you don't need no stinking curse resistance!

Plus there's some other curse resistance armour later on. Yeah, it's useful in the depths, but not essential. Careful avoidance and well placed boots to the head are more valid tactics.

There is another place you'll need it, but by then, you'll have enough kit to sort yourself out anyway

While you guys are talking about curse resistance, I just want to advertise my absolute adoration of the paladin armour set that you can get by running through the end of TotG in human form. Certainly made a couple of sections far less stressful when playing NG+!

The only reason not to kill Lautrec is that you'll miss his story. If you know his story in advance, you'd kick that bastard off the cliff the moment he settles his treacherous, murderous arse down there.

There's one other person like that as well (not Patches, I like Patches) but I don't want to spoil it for you.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

I'm trying to get back into DS after a few months off to play The Last Of Us and Pikmin 3 but I'm unsure in how to proceed.
I killed The Butterfly in Darkroot Garden and then stole the Elite Armour then did a load of soul farming so I'm now Level 55.
    I am a Pyromancer with...
    Vitality 21
    Attunement 14
    Endurance 27
    Strength 16
    Dexterity 30
    Resistance 12
    Intelligence 10
    Faith 8

    I'm using....
    Gargoyle's Halberd+5
    Knight Shield
    Fang Boar Helm
    Elite Knight Armour
    Elite Knight Gauntlets
    Elite Knight Leggings
    Blue Tearstone Ring

    Any tips please?

Dingy sets main benefit is actually the dingy robe, which for a lightweight character provides some lovely defence when fully upgraded. The skirt's pretty good as well, but to be fair is comparable to the Maiden skirt which is basically the same but clean.

The curse resistance is just a nice addition for certain areas.

I just started the game with another character. How the hell do people keep challenging me with characters that must have a much higher level?

One dude had the armor of Kirk and was doing some kind of AoE spell and the other was wielding three different pyromancies.

All I had was an un-upgraded Zweihander and my starting equipment...

Is this on PC or console?

If it's on PC, it could be a hacker.

If it's on console, it could be an experienced player who has razzed through the game and got super duper kit, but can still invade you as he's not levelled his char much

Or it could be a BB glitched character, if he still has one left

    I have 1 left!

I'm playing on PC. It could've been a hacker, or then somebody who just keeps their soul level low to grief beginners.

From what I checked out of the pyromancies, the pyromancer would have to have gotten to Anor Londo to get them and the Kirk imitator should've gotten to Lost Izalith.

True. But some of the people that post in this thread have completed the entire game at SL 1

OK, I went into Darkroot Basin and Killed a Black Knight to get his Halberd and the Grass Crest Shield, I then went down a lift and there's a blue dragon and I'm too scared!

Ah yes, Dark Souls the only game to make me swear at an Expo. I remember repeatedly dying, exclaiming rather loudly 'Fuck this game' then handing the controller to the person standing behind me :D

Right, my playstation 3 has finally given up, it survived many years of gaming, 3 house moves and nights where i've left it on after passing out during a film and whatever.

    This means 2 things.
    Firstly: I need a new PS3 console

Secondly: I'll have to start Dark Souls from scratch as all my old players will have been lost.
I've never had a full magic build.
But i'm mainly gonna play for PvP.

Any suggestions as to what build I should go for?

16 intelligence for dark magic (use oolacile + bellowing ring + dusk crown) 40 dex for faster casting. Buy the charcoal pine resin and apply it to your uchi. Use 19 attunement and get some pyromancy going. The rest into health and some into endurance.

Wolf ring + DWGR ring to be faster than the rest.

How come on 16 int? Are there not better spells to use? Or is Dark magic the most effective?

If I have INT at 25 then I get crystal magic weapon and homing sould mass, are they not worth bothering with?

I finally killed the Capra Demon, fucking hell that was tough!
I freed Gregg of Viniheim or wherever so can buy Magic stuff from him.
    As I'm a Pyromancer with...

    Attunement 14

@Architect_z If you want them then get it but... below 27 intelligence the best catalyst is the oolacile one and that catalyst does not scale with intelligence. So your magic damage won't increase if you up intelligence.

Dark Bead is very, very powerful.

    It's depending on your playstyle.

Come on. Your dexterity is 30 and faith/intelligence are... abysmal Get a dex weapon, if you haven't yet and stick with the normal upgrade path up to +15.

Just started playing this during the week. Nearly gave up early on but glad now I didn't. I've just beat the gargoyles and rang the bell, where do I go now? Don't know what's really going on yet aside from trying to stay alive :)
