It'll present itself, but you have to get the LV as it's triggered from meeting something inside the dukes archive. And after that you need to go somewhere else where you've been before to access it. And it's not that obvious if you ask me where you need to go.

I need to start playing again as well now I've finished the last of us.
Ah, thanks. I'll need to get my save back from the cloud and take a shot at it. I'm not certain I should be attempting the DLC in my NG++. :-)

The only tip I'll give you is forget elemental damage and try and take as much physical damage with you. And maybe magic.

Meaning... I have to be armed to the teeth and prepared to deal all types of damage in the hundreds, if I'm to succeed?

That's... very unlike all the other parts of the game. :p

Edit: Ah, forget elemental damage. OK, I'll keep that in mind. I'm not editing the post, though, as it would get too convoluted to be even remotely funny.

Considering my FIRST run through the DLC was on NG++ let me tell you, yeah forget elemental weapons, especially fire, it will do bugger all damage to the DLC bosses, magic is hideously crippled as well meaning sheer brute force is the only way through unless you like a challenge (this is coming from someone who has beaten the first two bosses using only a +15 Whip and a +5 Dragonbone fist on two different runs...god that took forever on both of them).

You want a good stability shield and good weapon of pure physical damage. If you're Strength/Faith the old chestnut of the 'buff basher' build (Power Within, Sunlight/Darkmoon blade) and hitting with the Demon's Greataxe.

You either need to be hitting really hard, really quickly or be bloody good at dodging and prepared for a very long fight (put it this way the second boss took me...about 30 minutes to beat with the whip...)

Just got the last achievement! :D Thought I'd have a quick go at PvP with my SL135 character (a kind of celebration) and was soundly beaten by everyone I fought in darkroot garden. All those hours and I still cant get the hang of PvP...

Darkroot is the worst place to go! You'll be getting hit by forest invaders who can be ANY level and who will specialise in quick kill nasty shit. Far better to head to undead burg's first bonfire esp if Taurus demon is still alive. At least a reasonable percentage of pvp will not be asshole-oriented there.

Yep tried there as well - same result. I've said it before and i'll say it again; PvE Dark Souls is one of the best games ever made but PvP is sadly proper gash. Too much lag and people with ridiculous one shot builds that remove all fun from the game. Hopefully something they'll fix in DS2.

It's easier if you do Ornstein first imo. He's faster than Smough so if you back off he'll keep coming at you and you can wear him down. If you do Smough first then Ornstein can rush in and hit you in the back more easily.

tbh it's much easier with Solaire!

On my second runthrough I've beaten Ornstein and Smough without help for the first time! It was actually okay because I wasn't trying for help so I didn't need to bugger about with the big guardians before the room to summon Solaire and because I had a +15 Great Scythe.

I got rid of Ornstein first by keeping my distance and taking a shot after blocking one of his attacks. After that Smough was okay provided I kept him in the middle and rolled backwards twice whenever he lined up a electrical storm attack or ran at me with his hammer. Otherwise I'd be strafing to the right and smacking him when I could.

Can't beat a great scythe that's what I say. Nice one. I've never taken them solo.

O&S are a piece of piss as an intelligence build. On NG+ with the crystal spells they are both easily taken out in less than 5 mins.

The DLC bosses are a fucking nightmare though, especially manus and kalmeet. Artorias ain't so tough if you nail the dodge timing.
  • Deleted user 1 September 2013 02:22:43
@SparkyMarky81 very true. My mage wasted them. Not got dlc. Not brave enough.

Currently playing NG+ and I've pretty much just run through the game to get to Anor Londo in about 4 hours.

I felt stupid when I realized that I made a mistake during my first playthrough when going against Ornsteing & Smough. I chose the safest path and just ran through Anor Londo from the first bonfire, since I figured it was the safest route. Of course running for like two minutes in an empty place only makes the boss-fight itself just more frustrating.

Now that I'm on a second playthrough I noticed that I only needed to kill only two Silver Knights to get to the fight.

But the boss-fight itself is still giving me hell. Last time it took me three days until I beat them and now it's even harder.

I guess I should just beat Ornstein first since he's a lot easier to kill and I've already gotten the Dragonslayer Spear.

The only reason I'm playing the NG+ is that I want to access the DLC, since I effed it up the first time.

Haha if I ever make it through Ornstein & Smough again I doubt there's anything that feels as hard. At least it was like that on the first playthrough.

The last boss that gave me challenge was the Four Kings and even that was with a tactic.

All you needed was to roll his attacks and then run away if he goes for throws. There was room for two 2-handed strikes from my Uchigatana and then I needed to dodge. This worked pretty well and I didn't even need to fight two of them at the same time.

Gravelord Nito was hard before I raised my poise up and made my way through the minions and killed him fast. I literally had played the game through with zero poise until this point and had no idea what it meant.

Seathe had a spot where he couldn't even hit me so I started just hitting the R2 button and he didn't even hit me.

I killed Gwyn in only four hits but honestly I just got lucky with the parries. A couple of times I just mashed parry after I got stunned by something.

If there is one thing I want to see change in Dark Souls 2 is definitely the amount of exploits. Too many of these great bosses had easy exploits against them.

Still this was easily one of the best games I've ever played and I haven't felt like this since I played Ico, SOTC or the first DMC a long time ago.

Yay got through Smough & Ornstein yesterday and finally got to the DLC.

Took out Ornstein first and then played it safe with Smough and killed him with the Composite Bow. Still managed to die twice when the lock-on switched off and he killed me with one hit...:-P

@quadfather Didn't get to try it out yet. For some reason I couldn't resist playing Dragon's Dogma today.

I've done it. I've finally done it. Jesus wept that took some time doing.

    SL100 NG+7 Gravelord.

I now sit around the Parish using Undead Rapport on the Balder Knights to 1 hit kill my invaders. Other than casting 1 spell I need not lift a finger.

    Worth it. Totally.

Winged spear + greatshield artorias + leo ring + abit of practice with timing = epic. doing 680 damage from a poke behind my beastly shield against taurus demon, leo ring works incredible against bosses

Last night I got to Blighttown (level 45 character, strength/stamina/vitality/dexterity build). And I found it very easy. Not sure if I was over powered or something but I only died a few times. I got as far as the bog at the bottom and ascended the water wheel lift thing.

I had more problems in the Depths when I became cursed.

I thought Blighttown has a bit of a reputation?

I did fall off one of the platforms and lose 12000 souls which was annoying. Hoping I can go back tonight and pick them up

@Rodney reputation for being a chore and stuttery more for being difficult to be honest I think!
