How the fuck do you kill the four kings with that?
    With great difficulty :)

I posted my playthrough here when I did it some 10 months ago or so but here's the rough recollection of how it went:

+No summons (another challenge I set myself)
    +no Stone/Havels armour
+Red Tearstone Ring - activate it at the ghosts before running to the portal
+A +5 Magic enchanted Small Wooden Shield (maybe Leather Shield I forget) to block their AoE/magic missiles. When you see them come, fully heal and block - it takes you right back to RTS hyper mode.
+Fire Dagger+10 to hack 'n slash when you get a chance
+ lots and lots of rolling

It was a complete bitch and took me dozens and dozens of attempts to get right (and even then I had to come up with this weird strat after realising that magic wouldn't cut it alone).

I'll try and dredge up a pic of stats/gear I posted a photo of, gimme a mo.

Apolgies for large post bumpage but here's what I found. No screenies after 4 Kings but same setup bar Dusks Crown (also I gave up on the Cursed idea as it was too risky):

edit: just realised I did Nito with Rusted Iron Ring equipped rather than with the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring....ummm props I guess ;) D'oh!

OK, so I've devised a cunning strategy to beat the 4 Kings that involves something rather....different :) I've cursed myself in order to make the best use of the Red Tearstone Ring :)

I've figured out that blocking either of their large magic attacks from full cursed health with my +5 Magic Wooden Sheild will instantly pop me back into hyper mode. Sadly it does mean starting the fight with about 50hp and then rolling out of their attacks perfectly :D

Not quite done them yet but after about a dozen attempts I came to this new solution and instantly got them down to less than 1/4 hp so here goes nothing :)

edit@ @ Elathron - nah, I've unequipped the crown - I realised after a few fights that I was wearing it and not using any magic on them and then remembered the debuff it gives you too, d'oh!

Yeah, the debuff is horrible. Well done for the 4K attempt while cursed as well, never seen the use in cursing myself but I guess it helps for this fight. I've not played in a week or so again, the loss of high level opponents has put me off as I feel like I'm bullying anyone who's a lower level now.
However, I have learnt to use the iaito/uchi combo - with the iaito as the parrying device it's quite effective. Looks badass too, it's just a shame you can't get a wakisashi to do the same job

@Dr_Mech - congrats! Did you go pyro heavy presumably? I'll wager that you joined Daughters of Chaos to skip Centipede if that's the case?

You could just hang around in the Burg at SL1 and ruin lowbie invaders for lols :)
Nope, Pyromancy was only heavily used in two places, first the Four Kings (which was bloody challenging because I could NOT get hit during that fight since I had neither the endurance to block their attacks and if they did hit even with a basic sword hit, it would shave off a third of my health). I used Great Combustion and Combustion to spam them down when combined with the Bellowing Dragoncrest ring.

Second time was during the O&S fight to quickly dispatch Orns. The rest of the time it was using a lightning reinforced club +5 or a Fire reinforced club +9.

I couldn't be arsed to grind humanity so I never bothered with the Chaos Servant Shortcut and did fight the Centipede demon (though I was surprised to find that the Firesage seems to have little to no resistance to fire after I forgot to switch clubs when going in).

Gwyn proved near impossible, it was basically 6 or 7 straight parries in a row using the Fire reinforced club at +9 combined with the hornets ring and no chance of fuckups since he would two shot me even through blocking but got one good run where I nailed every parry.

I've already progressed him to NG and finally getting the joys of levelling again.

As for tips, you don't HAVE to go pyro spam heavy, the reinforced club actually hits really fucking hard for the stat requirements to use it AND it has the bleed effect which on certain bosses really helps, elemental versions hit upwards of 450 damage which is enough to two shot a Silver Knight in Anor londo on backstabs. It is more than enough for dealing with the day to day duties of enemy smacking and though the range sucks balls it will do plenty on bosses.

Either do like I did, which was use the Heater shield due to it being an alright shield in itself BUT having the best parry time of the medium shields and parry everything you can OR go for ye olde Balder Knight shield for the stability, if you're feeling really ballsy go for no shield at all (which I am not ballsy enough to try that, my attempted fist weapon run proved that I can go without a shield but I don't find it fun).

Way to get overpowered pretty early on in the game is to start with the master key, first get two Reinforced clubs, farm both to +5 in Undead Parish (using the Firelink-New Londo-Valley of the Drakes-Darkroot shortcut to get there). Then go grab yeself the Rusted iron ring from the Undead Asylum (oh have fun doing 100ish damage to the Black Knights on a riposte...takes a freaking age to kill them), head down to Blighttown, farm yourself 10 green Titanite shards by farming the Leeches. Take one of your +5 clubs to the Smith in the catacombs (running like a little girl tends to help you get there, ignore everything) and turn it into a +5 Fire club.

Now go fight the Tarus Demon.

Turn the other one into +10 when you get the Large ember for fire immune bosses.

    Argh what a jip!

After decideing to change my armour set, I thought i'd go for the Paladin set.
So set-off into the catacombs, managed to kill the stupid right of kindling boss.
So went to the ToTG, unhollowd to gain human form, went to where Leeroy invades, noticed the orange door was in force. So...
All the way back to the firelink, Frampts mouth > to the Kiln, placed the Lordvessel, warped back to ToTG, went to the invasion point.
Leeroy invaded and I wrath of gods his ass, he was stunned, but then just sort of died? A message came up saying "Leeroy defeated", but I didnt get Sanctus or the Grant, his defeated sign was still there aswell, so I picked up the humanity for defeating him, but after defeating Nito I simply could not find the armour set. I know where its supposed to be and I tried warping somewhere and warping back and still no armour set.

Anyone got any ideas? After spending like an hour and a half trying to get the armour set, i'm kinda pissed after doing everything correctly.

Additional question incase anyone knows. Do you get the armour set if Leeroy dies from falling? I can only assume that the game glitched and thats why he suddenly died on the spot?

    Please HELP

I am getting my ass kicked in the DLC. Wow super aggressive! Having to completley change how I play the game to try and beat the Knight.

Have uttered a couple of un-utterables recently hahaha

@Architect_z - If he dies from falling or there's a glitch then the armour will either be where he spawns normally upon a reset, or it will be in the chest by fraampts hole at firelink (the chest that is open by the statue that is). If not then I'm afraid you've been subjected to a glitch! I can give you any sets you want though dude, just send me a message on XBL and we'll hook up!

The armour appears in Nito's room (requires a save/reload if you go straight to kill Nito after Leeroy).

I think the quickest you can get back there through the Gravelord shortcut (the coffin) to save running all the way back through TotG.

Yeah all the DLC bosses are super aggressive except for the special bonus boss which, while aggressive, has fairly large tells on all his attacks but also a butt-ton of health to back him up and a fairly large selection of moves.

All the DLC bosses are pretty resistant to elemental and magical damage. I think this was to compensate for the overpowered nature of high level spellcasters in vanilla game (45 int, Crown of Dusk, Bellowing Dragon's crest ring, Logan's catalyst (or tin crystalization catalyst for even more damage but less spells), power within + Homing Crystal soulmass and Crystal soulspear = ability to three shot all but one of the vanilla bosses in the game even on NG+).

It is always best to go in with pure physical damage weapons on the DLC bosses.

Oh and have fun trying to cut the bonus bosses tail, he does two moves where you can hit it and he has such a large bank of moves he can do you have to artificially prolong the fight in order to get it.

    Edit:
Oh on a side note I fancy doing a Fat Official Cosplay character for invasions, I know I need Chester's hat/mask and the Crescent Axe but what other gear would go with it?

Picturing the usual Strength/Faith build with pyromancy thrown in and enough int to use Aural Decoy to mimic the Fat Official's laugh.

    @Architect_z

Try the corpse in Nito's cave again after leaving and returning or reloading. That's the usual place for the armour to spawn.
(also don't forget to kill Petrus if you want to save Rhea)

@Dangerous_Dan - No good matey, quit the game, warped, even tried nestleing in the coffin, I cannot find a corpse anywhere, and no white "loot-here!" light in Nitos cavern thing.

I just read up on Frampts chest, never knew what it did before. I always assumed I just open it when I first start a new character. What items actually spawn in there? Some people are saying only rings?

I JUST WANT THE PALADIN ARMOUR!!! ARRRRGGGGHHHH.
  • Deleted user 25 May 2013 08:48:53
I think it's unique items only that respawn in there (lava ring/abyss ring etc) - things that you NEED to get through the game in case you accidentally drop them.

Saying that, I've had the Cat Covenant ring in there too which is hardly essential, so not 100% sure.

Shame about the armour, looks like your best bet is to beg a set off someone on PS3 here maybe? (x360 here too sry)

Thanks for the help guys. I'll check the spawn of Leeroy and the Firelink chest, but I gotta say, I have my doubts.

Whats worse is I've got the Paladin armour on a couple of my other characters, just not the one I use for PvP, and it seems to be the perfect set for my character. (Plus it looks kinda badass)

    Ok...here goes.......

Anyone on PS3 around SL 125 who has the paladin set, could you please help me out. I can trade. I have Baldur Side Swords available (Quad).

@Architect_z That's too bad then. I guess you really did check the whole Nito cave? I think there is more than one corpse down there and the armour is on one of them. If it's really not there then, well, next NG...

@Dangerous_Dan - Aye, I've circled the place, checked for any loose pieces of rock blah blah, I can't see the glowing white 'loot' thing in their anywhere, I can't even see any corpses on the floor. So unless this persons body is hidden somewhere then....pfft. No dice.

Just been and picked up the paladin set with my SL120 character. If you take the gravelord shortcut to Nito, hug the righthand wall and corpse is unto a low tunnel just a few feet from the coffin you enter in.

If you still can't find it I can meet you somewhere and drop it for you.

    PSN is EDDY-THE-ED

@King_Edward - Sweetness, I'll give it a try, Nitos cavern is just wierd. I'm sure I couldnt find the coffin last time I looked.

Ok i'll search again to see if I can find it. I may be in touch if unsuccessful. Cheers matey. Appreciate it. (won't be online until this afternoon, at work atm).

Oh man the black-knight halberd feels very overpowered (I'm on my first ever playthrough) -had to do a reasonable amount of grinding to be able to lift the damn thing, but since I've opened up the blightown shortcut having experienced the depths-route, I'm bloody glad of it.

One question: once one gets down to the swamps, where the hell do you go?

    @Metalfish

It is basically considered a Speed Runners weapon for this reason, it's easy to upgrade and once you have the stats to wield it, you basically don't need another weapon, this goes for any of the Black Knight weapons.

Basically it is a payoff, do you get the weapon early (with a little bit of luck) but have to spend levels getting that stats you need to wield it (potentially sacrificing levels elsewhere) or do you go for a weapon that is tailored more to your build is heading (Demon's Greataxe for strength, Great Scythe for Dex) but will recieve later.

The Black Knight weapons are basically good weapons BUT they're outclassed by specialised pieces of kit when you get the stats to wield those weapons.

Plus IIRC they can't be buffed at all, so if you're going an int/dex build or a faith/strength build they won't do quite as much damage as a Darkmoon blade/Crystal magic weapon buffed one would.

Hmm find them ok to upgrade.

Using the master key use the Firelink to Darkroot shortcut, run past the Black knight, kill the first lizard there and get 2 twinkling titanite. Next go through Undead burg and just before the boss fog kill the second lizard (hidden in a barrel for those that don't know, though I'm guessing most people do by now) for another two.

That should be enough to get a weapon to +3, if you want to push for +4 early, killing those trees in the Darkroot forest area should get you red and purple moss which nets you one each when traded to Snuggly. If you're particularly lucky a blooming purple moss drops from one of them which is another two from Snuggly (but for some reason Twinkling goes 1, 1, 2, 2, 4 for the upgrade requirement so you'd need 1 more).

As you said that does seem to be the balance for Twinkling Titanite weapons, they're better out of the box than anything else but suffer towards late game when you'd have a fully upgraded +15 weapon.

My char very much a strength build. Forty something strength, it's very tempting to go on with the full Havel set (although his shield needing a full fifty strength means I'll be sticking with the stone shield for a while) despite being best at using the long range of halberd type weapons to avoid getting in too much trouble.

Yes, I am progressing through the DLC content now. Managed to down the knight and then went on through the level, I got invaded and the invader took me through the level in a sort of tour guide sort of way. The invader was naked and made it clear he didn't want to fight me and we basically speed ran the rest of the level up to the first shortcut point before the decent into the abyss.

To show my gratitude, I removed all my clothes and we had a fist fight for about 10 mins, fairly even I got a sweet un-targeted running round the back style backstab (back punch), thinking it was 2 all in the backstab stakes.

Anyway I decided to use a bit of the environment and rolled onto a lift, triggered it but messed it up and rolled into my death. It was a sad end to a great gaming moment.
