Does anyone know (in NG+) when Shiva is first available to purchase weapons? I've been told hes in Blightown, is this true? Does anything in the game have to happen before he appears?
When you say powerful, what do you mean? Are you comparing the damage rating in the stats screen? I often find that misleading as that's just the attack rating and I often have to swap out weapons, depending on what I'm fighting.

Re Shiva, I think he first appears when you speak to Alvina in the forest? I can't remember whether you have to join the covenant or not to make him appear. I think you might have to.

@quadfather - The occult baldur just does more damage, my faith stat is at 50 whether my Dex is at 32 or something, I think since the nerf, occult weapons are quite a tasty proposition, my occult balder is way more powerful than any fire/lightning weapons i own now.

Interesting. I'll have to have a play with occult. Never tried it much

Experienced a move I had never seen by a Cobra Mage last night where he grabbed hold of me, bit down on my sholder and picked me up in his mouth and slammed me into the ground. It was rather cool.
I've been through the level about three times and never seen them even try such a move before.

@quadfather - its probably due to my high faith stat that its so powerful, but if one was a high dex character, i'm sure a +15 baldur would kick the crap out of the occult weapons still. But considering a occult baldur only scales B with faith, its really quite a good weapon. Stabs seem especially effective.

@Architect_z - Suppose yes. I'm still in the late 20's/early 30's with dex at the moment, so it'll have a wait a bit

    @M83J01P97 + @L_Franko - ah right, with you

here's a thing that I never ever realised you could do - whilst farming humanity in the depth's, I have *only just realised* that whilst running, if you do a normal attack with the furysword, it does a sort of nunchaka-type sweep that kills whatever is in front of you without breaking your running momentum

Am I the only one that didn't know you could do this? :)

@quadfather - Is it best (for casting) to max dex at 40?

@Architect_z - I believe so yes - I know the diminishing returns for dex damage scaling wane quite a lot after 40. I'm assuming that's the same for the casting, but I'd wait till someone else confirms as well as I'm not 100%

Hmmm, I've an Occult Balder +5 and a Balder +14 and the stock weapon does noticeably more damage "in the field", as it were. My faith is at 50 and Dex at 40 now. It may not be long before you get to that point then if you continue to pump Dex.

I spent 3 hours grinding the undead parish for the baldur side sword this morning. Thank fuck it finally dropped!

I ended up with a few levels worth of souls as well. It appears that you start to lose the resistance bonus in your 80's :(

What stat is best to pump once you hit 40 for vit, end and dex?

    For the emperor!

@quadfather - Fair doos, I think I heard dex at 40 is the max level for casting speed.

@mcmothercruncher - I reckon when my dex reaches 40, the occult-baldur+5 will not be as damaging as the normal+15 baldur, however having the magic damage could be useful for PvP. Might just have a baldur sword in each right hand slot. ^_^

There is one big problem with that list, a level 1-5 character could not run through the Valley of Drakes as it suggests. The path after the undead dragon is blocked by a Drake and then the guide casually goes on to suggest killing the Black Knight at the bottom of Darkroot Basin... It's basically detailing the hardest way of getting to the first boss.

It's a pretty big ask, that checklist, but handy for a list of stuff not to miss in general.

Also, aren't you going to run into more black knights on the return visit to the asylum? I suppose you could leggit past them, but if they're on the route, that's a big risk too.

Believe it or not, that's a pretty common route at low levels for those wanting to finish some areas quickly or grab some useful items (especially now that the BB glitch has been removed). The Drake can be easily dodged if you know what you're doing.

@senso-ji - I certainly do the route to astora's gear, but normally get killed by the dragon and I certainly then dont tackle the drakes

Is it me or why can't I backstab the "invisible" knights behind the crescent door? Does the ring of fog grant backstab invulnerability?

Shouldn't do - I can backstab them, I'm sure. Definitely backstabbed the thief one at least

Yeah had no problems with the second one. Might have been some sort of glitch with the first one. Or I was just being terrible at backstabs and parries hehe.

I did that route with my latest character right from the start, dodged rather than killed the Drakes though I must admit- wouldn't have stood a chance.

I discovered a new move for the Balder Sword I've never seen before today- forward roll into R1 gives you a diagonal upward strike. I know, I know, I'm late to the party ;)

Hands down the best move set in the game for my money.

@mcmothercruncher - It does have a great moveset. My favourite move is actually 2-handed roll and R1, it does a roll to stab move, its really fast and quite powerful too. Works a treat in PvP.

It's worth noting that the giant undead Dragon will only wake up and attack you if you pick up the Dragon Crest shield. You can grab all other items around it without disturbing it.
