    From Software’s announced a brand new PS3 exclusive from the dev team behind Demon’s Souls, known as Project Dark.

    Not much is known of it, other then it’s being aimed at fans of the former, with it being a “dark fantasy” title.

    The game was shown at Sony’s TGS press conference this morning, but the internet stream was blacked out during the presentation.

    If this is a spiritual sequel to Demon’s Souls, expect this to be fucked up difficult.
    Project Dark releases next year in Japan for PS3.

    ^^Alll wrong. It's Scamco x FromSoftware. Not Demon's Souls 2. Also, this is PS3/360 in the West atleast (great news).

    Now I'm confused:

    Exclusive in Japan and published my Sony? And, then Multiplatform in the West?

    Here, have an offical while I try to work out what's going on here.

    I do recall a Sony exec talking about collaborating with Namco Bandai on a game a while back.

    But if it's going to the 360 too it can't be a collaboration, definitely nothing like the arrangement which saw the development of Demon's Souls.

    You wouldn't want Namco Bandai anywhere near a Demon's Souls sequel anyway.

    I don't see anything that says it's published by Sony. Just Namco Bandai logos.

    So it's Namco Bandai published in JP too? That's quite disapointing, so no SCEJ involvement. Oh no, megaton alert called off :(

    It's still the same dev team that wad behind Demon's Souls. So It's still rockin' good news. ;)

    And it's still an action RPG according to the tagline on the site. Wait and see, I guess.

    I wonder why Sony didn't go the whole hog this time? Seems a bit surprising after DS was such a sleeper hit.

    SCEJ played quite a big roll in it's (Demon's Souls) development; with Namco it could go either way, attempting to capture some of the mainstream (i.e. making it easier).

    Also, Project Dark is a codename; it well end up being called something completely different like:

    Soul Demon: Teh Sequel

    SCEJ don't really have much interest in producing PS3 games this generation, they probably don't give a damn about what happened with Demon's Souls.

    Actually they were quite vocal about SCEE/SCEA dropping the ball and not publishing Demon's Souls (iirc). As much as I hate them for not making enough games (for PS3) this gen, I'd have loved them to be involved in this.

    They'd be infringing on Sony's IP rights if it was too close. Besides, you've got all the 360 silver account users to support, it definitely won't have the same online system.

    e.g. Project Force = Armored Core 4.

    Retroid is awesome.

    Anywho, not sure what Takeshi Kajii is doing now at SCEJ; but this must really suck for him. He was responsible for Demon's Souls; he's the one who approached FROM about a revival of the King's Field type action game.

    Edit: I think he's doing Alundra HD, that's quite cool actually.

    I suppose giving them the chance to make it was a pretty big role, but all the game design came from From Software. There's very little they will or would have done differently given another publisher, that's what that particular team (King's Field 1-4, Shadow Tower 1 and 2) likes and prefers in their design. It doesn't matter whose support they've got, that's the ideal they tend to stick to.

    Its funny cause I recall posting on the Namco Bandai EU forum after Demon's Souls came out here and their relationship in Japan with Another Century suggesting they sign a long term deal with From Software.

    They're way ahead of me. Hope its not just a one game deal and they also bring over Armored Core 5 as well.

    There's a trailer from TGS up on YouTube.

    Hopefully a version of the trailer with better sound turns up. You can see the game is definitely from the same bloodline as Demon's Souls in terms of looks at least. No 360 logo at the end of the trailer so I guess it's possible it's exclusive in Japan at least.

    Looks like the PS3 version is the one getting the developer's attention so if anybody gets a bad port it won't be PS3 owners for a change.
