Registered 6 years agoCommunity might be off to a slowish start but it miles ahead of the snorefest that has been Parks this year (Tom & JR's 'business' aside) -

Registered 4 years agoThat was a pretty poor episode, I thought, far too mean-spirited for its own good and the Chang subplot was taking shots at pretty overdone targets - film noir parodies are way too common to work unless you have a distinctive angle on the material or are taking on something very specific, neither of which the episode did. Annie's faint was hilarious, as was Britta unwittingly dropping the burning paper on the turtle, but on the whole, the episode fell flat for me. And I thought last week was hilarious. My review here, plus Parks & Rec (back to its best this week). -

Registered 5 years agoI agree - the whole episode seemed to be written by somebody who'd never seen the show. Everybody was bitchy, there was no ''lesson/development'' and it wasn't even that interesting.
And although the Chang stuff may have been a bit familiar, it was funny. And as ever, Dean Pelton was great. I loved when he was wondering if the firefighters had brought a Dalmatian... -

Haven't seen this weeks Community yet but I agree it does seem to have taken a bad dip this year so far.

Couldn't disagree more about Parks though, I'm loving it all except for Tom's side business which was just a little too shark jumpy for me last week. -

Registered 9 years agoParks pisses all over this, every character is pretty much gold. And a few I'd happily watch a spin off, couldn't say that about community, which has got far too wink at the audience these days. -

True but judging by the writing so far, it is fast becoming "The Chang Show", with guest stars from Community.

Looking pretty fucked for a chance of a 4th season, but hopefully will get the whole of this season. Creatively that may be best given the cut in writing stuff and what looks a push from the studio to cut the special episodes. -

I thought it was a great episode, I think the series has become more more well developed as it has continued. At first the show seemed more like a regular sitcom about a college that had lots of pop culture refernces and some strange background characters but has evolved into a very self referential, almost existential, intelligent comedy. It is almost as if Ahbed himself is making it.
Shirley looks like a Klingon. -

And the post-credit Troy and Abed spot is awesome. -

Registered 5 years agoThis is why Community is awesome. A show that can sustain this degree of analysis and generate such a cult following is just dizzying in how much up its own arse it is while being genuinely brilliant at the same time. My favourite show on TV right now.
It's scary to think about the creative process behind it though. I imagine a room full of mini-Abeds, brains hooked up via electrodes to a constant stream of TV shows, films and blogs about pop culture references in TV shows, films and blogs.

They seem to have a good writing staff, but 90% of the best stuff comes from Dan Harmon. For example the whole remedial chaos theory episode was broken by him, saw the photos of his storyboard for it.

Most recent episode was brilliant and completely restored my faith in this series. I had kinda forgotten why I loved it in the first place, was pretty disappointed with recent episodes.
Some real gems in there.
