You're just trying to come up with any old reason you can because you're bitter the game didn't get an HD system announcement. With the huge reduction in development costs, there's no way the game wasn't exponentially more successful on the PSP. Deal with it.

It cost less, but it also sells for less (and sold less). There was more money to be made if VC3 was on PS3.

So, for those of you that are done complaining about what format it's on, and are just interested in more details, some can be gained from this youtube vid that someone at GAF posted:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olC9s913Xp4&feature=related

Looks like at least some units will have special powers, the use of which is limited by an SP guage (seperate from the CP guage we all know and love). One character can 'lead' another character around with them, so I guess that would, in effect, give the second character a free movement turn (useful for getting lancers and machine-gunners around possibly?), another character has some sort of multi-lock-on missile-launcher, and the third is the Valkyrie, so she gets to transform into one for a turn.
Those specials are for the main 3 characters of the story, so no idea if random squaddies will also get their own. I'm sorta guessing no, as it would be a nightmare to balance the difficulty if they did.

Oh, and according to GAF there will be a demo on the japanese PSN in November.
Might actually have finished the first game by then :p

Well, I've been playing VC2 for about a week now, and I think being portable has really suited the gameplay so far. I'm just happy that they're making another sequel! It must have sold well enough on PSP to warrant a sequel, so I'm looking forward to it.

    Squad 442 The "Nameless"

Imca - also known as "Ace Number 1" is a Darcsen Heavy Weapon specialist whose village was destroyed by the Valkyria and she is seeking revenge.
Kurt Irving - also known as "Number 7" is a former army officer who hopes to redeem himself and to the regular military forces.
Riela Marceris - also known as "Number 13" is a young woman who initially does not know that she is a descendant of the Valkyria.
Leila Peron - Leila is Homer Peron's older sister, known as "Number 23" is domineering and self-righteous, and likes to call herself "Queen."
Alphonse O'Clair - known as "Number 11", prides himself on his abilities as a spy and informant. At times he uses the title "Gallian Hawk." Revealed on the official Valkyria Chronicles blog, the one that usually has Edy and Homer talking to each other, celebrated its 100th post, he and Leila interrupted their conversation.

Coutesy of wiki tidbits and sources. Going to be interesting how the links to VC play out, with more siblings/friends rumoured for the squad line-up, especially with the rumblings that the 442 effectively shadowed Squad 7 on their trails. Hmmmm.....

A few extra bits about the Calamity Raven villains mentioned below.
    Famitsu introduces three primary members:
Dahau: Leader of the group. He desires to split from the Darcsen, a race that's said to have destroyed much of europe in what is called the "Darcsen Calamity."
Lydia Agute: Aide to Dahau, but she feels not the least bit of loyalty towards him. Rather than calling her Dahau's subordinate, she actually appears to be observing Dahau and the Calamity Ravens themselves.
Zig: A young Darcsen boy and an admirer of Dahau. He's young and inexperienced, but his determination to win is strong, and he'll valiantly head to the front lines during combat.

Famitsu also has an introduction to a few members of your Nameless crew this week, including Daito and Sergio Ribelt. On the gameplay side of things, the magazine introduces two new areas. Progression through the game's storyline is handled through a map called your "Advancing Map." (That's just a guess at the English). You basically select a symbol from this map to move to the next mission and story sequence. The game has increased the number of units you can bring out with you to the battle fields. This is up to 9 now, a sizable jump from the original's 6. With access to more units, you'll be able to plan out more varied strategy.
    -andriasang

Looking good then, especially the return to a story progression rather than randomly grinding. The increased units will also be a godsend. If only I could find some details on the squad tank, as the glimpses I've seen look very Eidelweiss-y......customisation ho !

Oooh, thanks for the new info.
Squad size of 9 sounds good, along with previous claims of bigger maps. Guess they have mastered the tighter memory restraints of the PSP.
Hope that 'Advancing map' has a few branches and side-missions along the way. I'm not really a fan of VC2's grindyness either, but its nice to have an option to score additional income for stat-boosts, if you can't quite get through the battles on tactics alone.

I'm just in Valkyria fever at the mo ! My Development Artworks turned up, another has been announced for VC2 (including possible English translations for both), just coming to the end of VC2, and the new story sounds a helluva lot more interesting than the schoolyard antics I'm enduring.

Strange angle for VC3 is this "Calamity Raven" group, as they're primarily Darcsens (officers?)in the employ of the Imperial Army. The same Imperial Army that's ethnically cleansing Darcsens during VC.

How's that sit with them ? :s Seems the Nameless pool is going to be slightly reduced to around 20 too, so it should provide greater backstory per recruit.

Hopefully it's going to go to dark places......

ED:Pics in the opened Character section. And that funky Howls Moving Castle-esque transport ! I hope that is the customisable vehicle !

    New levelling mechanics explained.

Sounds like the right idea, and it's good to see everything headed in the right direction. Seems that they've cottoned on to the one-unit rush/continuous tactic, and have made the Nameless appear stronger* without much change in the gameplay. I approve.

*Too late, cannae think of the right phrase

    Oh my gawwd....

    ....this is SUMPTIOUS. :o

Absolutely beautiful, much improved graphically, better anime scenes, more effective sound FX......

It's everything VC2 should've been, but I'll let it pass. The demo cast looks a helluva lot more interesting too, with Old Granny Lancer having double ammo and a wicked aim, the young sniper who triggered a negative potential everytime (showing him crying into his hands ;_;), and the bookish looking engineer/medic who's nowt more than a lovely redhead. :)

Like the new mechanics too, with easily triggered special moves, the tank only needing 1CP, and the new Armoured Tech shield deploying as a barricade.

How long must we wait, because it's going to be agonising.......? :(

    /hopes for Artworks too

1cp for tank movement? I always thought the 2cp trade off was a very good decision. Will try the demo tonight.

Well, you had the light chassis in that used 1CP in VC2, and with a certain captured turret, it was the obvious choice......

I think it's been changed just for providing more choice, as tanks are typically used as mobile cover and sponge targets, rather than map owning these days (personally, anyway). Consider that infantry can one-shot most armoured targets and I think it brings back a little parity, especially as the 422 are rumoured to individually be more powerful than previous squads.

Other little touches I've noticed are the lil' tabs on bases, showing you their point of transport, the fact that enemy AI will use grenades, and the recovery of fallen units bringing them back immediately (don't know if it's demo only).

Still haven't tried the Varkyria special yet, and that's something that could be overpowered.

I've not played VC2 yet but with the battle system evolving I hope a PS3 version is made in the future. A modification of the existing VC1 engine should be relatively low cost?

....which is still more expensive. This is 'new' SEGA remember.....

Add in the popularity and massive userbase of the PSP in Japan, and it's a no brainer.

Valkyria won't be returning to the PS3 anytime soon. If at all......

The presentation is miles better than vc2. Can someone explain what the yellow markers with arrows(?) are on the map? Usable in some way?

It's bow not possible to use bullets against the tank engines?

    Re: Yellow Markers

If you're talking about the yellow boxes with PICKAXE symbols, it's areas where you can build ladders/bridges with that big crane arm on the tank. Just drive close to them, and a lil' O/Circle prompt will appear, and it'll build away. Opens up handy shortcuts and easier approaches.

As for "bow not possible"(?), no, as they've only got basic MGs in the demo. Against a low defence APC they'll be fine, but tanks are too heavily armoured (even the engine) I'm afraid.

    ED: New vids.

Thanks. I meant now not possible; I only tried using non lancers to attack tanks in the latter vc1 missions so I didn't know only more developed guns can affect the engines.

I've checked the demo and so far it seems all changes go into good direction.

Biggest thing is new presentation of story with the map and increase in interception fire.
I got killed a few times by it after being accustomed to VC2 harmless enemy counter attacks ;)

can't find the VC2 thread so thought I'd post a couple of questions here.

    1. How do you purchase / equp the rock / ice breakers? I got to a level requring an ice breaker and at the same time the R&D center told me about rock breakers but couldn't find it (not sure I've even unlocked ice).

    2. How do you deal with gatling guns? is it possible to disarm them somehow? (Coming back to the game after a long break, I think i've forgotten some of the mechanics).

Gatling guns - You can deal with gatling guns using flame throwers. Think you can equip the other equipment when outfitting the tank on the mission page.

That's the problem, I can't find any rock / ice breaking equipment anywhere. She told me about the rock breaker so surely it should be there somewhere.

Mm, can you take out the ice with the tank flamethrower? I thought you could also just blow rocks up with the main cannon.

the r&d chick definitely told me there are attachments you can buy for the front of the tank which allow you to drive straight through it.
