    Sounds like a good idea:

The main parts of the system are the rumoured iTunes-like music store for the usual preview and buying of digital music – not much new here. The other, clever part though is the idea of a cloud-based ‘digital locker’ for your other music.

Here you can upload tracks you already have and listen to them combined with your Google Music purchases anywhere you can gain access to the service. One of these places with most certainly be via an Android device, with this being the first cloud based service with user uploading – potentially extremely popular.

...and at long last Android gets a dedicated Music Hub.

Seems like it's taking a while doesn't it?

As much as I like the idea of a cloud based media service, especially considering I can upload my own content to it, I do think its a bit of a waste of bandwidth to use it when I can just as easily move my music onto my Android phone and listen to it without worrying if I have network coverage or if I will be exceeding my bandwidth allowance by listening to Lady Gaga.

My home LAN already has a sizable NAS attached to it for all the media we consume and I don't see a cloud based solution replacing that.

So for me, as much as I like the idea, I cannot see any use for it.

I'm not interested in the storage. But the store, cloud playlists and the fact it's google has me very interested

    I approve of this linkage.

Wary of Google's constant expansion though.

Anyone know if you can force this to scan and match rather than physically upload my tracks? Half an hour in and it's uploaded 30 of 4000 songs, could take a while...

I don't think you can, it's very slow, but ultimately worth it.

OK thanks, I was coming to that conclusion based on web searches. Patience it is then!

Totally. It only seems to upload two tracks at a time, very slowly.  It auto restarts though if you turn your comuter off so I have just left mine for each IME the pc is on. Up to about 3600 uploaded now so only about another 1000 to go.

It is a bit of a pain uploading in bulk. I tend to just leave it overnight. Worth it in the end.

I have a quick question if anyone can help. Anyone using Google Music on the iPad? I've tried using the webapp in Safari and Chrome and both pause between tracks after the iPad screeen automatically locks. When I unlock the screen, the next track continues. This is obviously a dealbreaker. Anyone else have this problem and/or a workaround?

My music collection still hasn't fully uploaded. I've only got about 2000 songs on my laptop and it's been trying to upload that since I downloaded the music manager in January...

A free google service where Apple charge you for the equivalent being a bit borked on an Apple device? REALLY?

@kalel I'm not an Apple fanboy (obviously) but I'm not sure this is really Apples fault. Also, after searching the web, I can't find anyone else reporting the same problem. Safari on the iPad (and presumably Chrome) are supposed to be supported, hence the webapp. I don't need any fancy music management, just straightforward playback of multiple tracks.

There are 3rd party apps, can't remember which one I used but seemed OK.

Edit: Sorry, that's really unhelpful, isn't it?

    My wife uses an app.

    Melodies I think it's called.

Seems to work okay though can take a while to load the library when you fire it up for the first time.

    Brap, brap, old chap.
