    I do think it was strange that he recovered almost instantly. He went from a shaky mess to rock solid in a day.

    Also, the Richard thing is far, far deeper than just what you saw with the dog. Did you miss him crying when he let the target live?

    Didn't Harrow crack up last season too when he tried to take his own head off and a dog came along?

    I did notice that yeah, something is obviously getting to him. Not sure quite what it is yet though, maybe he's just been bottling up his remorse for so long.

    I did forget him crying last season though, yep.

    That's why I said I thought he was being deliberately frail to provoke a discussion, because for all of these years he was just taking care of Nucky, but now he's taken a bullet and stepped into the Business. So he wants to be treated like a colleague.
    Also Nucky is almost alone really. People who seemed close allies have fallen. He doesn't have a wife or a lover right now. Eddie will want to protect him. It's what he does.

    I'm not saying he didn't have a lot to get over, I just thought he was pretending to be worse to make Nucky pay attention, as a conversational gambit.

    A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

    Dr Narcisse and the undercover cop/ Edgar Hoover angle have me so excited.

    So many excellent characters!

    I just love watching the endless trials and tribulations of Former Agent Nelson Van Alden. He's still dazed by his curious shift in fortune, but now he has broken into his rage, I can see him getting very dark indeed. All the while going home to his dutiful wife to find her spending dollars faster than he can earn them.

    A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

    I can't stand Van Aldens new wife though. The accent kills me. GOD DAMN IT WHY CAN'T THEY JUST GET A DUTCH ACTRESS. Completely ruins my immersion in the show. Reminds me of Jimmy O'Phelan's Irish accent in SoA, just a disgrace.

    Notice how Kelly Macdonald is still credited too? I wonder.

    @Trane:
    Why would they need a Dutch actress to play a Norwegian woman?

    She's Norwegian? :D Oh well, I thought she was dutch, going by the accent. I remember her coming in as the nanny but not the detail beyond that. I've been to Norway, they sound nothing like that, she sounds like a parody of the Dutch to me.

    My point still stands.

    Haha, I didn't think she sounded dutch...

    I think she's supposed to be Norwegian, definitely scandinavian...Didn't they make that special booze for some sort of Norwegian holiday?

    I find Van Alden just horribly boring...No idea where his story could ever go...He'll become an important enforcer who can't go anywhere near Atlantic City for fear of being recognised...

    I like Van Alden.

    With most good turned bad stories it's about the character changing over time. With Van Alden he's pretty much the same person but in changing circumstances.

    @Baihu1983

    @Syrette Cause I would rather watch it in lovely HD on my big TV and whats the point in paying for a channel only to watch the shows elsewhere? This seems to be the only show Sky mess about with? Every other show happens the day or 2 after the US.

    Yup, me too. :)

    I still pay for it... I just don't watch it on the channel I pay for.

    Yup. He wears that machete well. Patricia Arquette looking pretty good, 20 years on from True Romance. I like the cut of Sally's jib, looking forward to more sparring with Nucky.

    This series is huge. So many characters! Didn't even visit Capone et al this week. This Narcisse is a piece of work. Hopefully Chalky can resist the lure of the poppy, although probably not if it comes from that singer.

    A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

    You just know it's not gonna end well for Narcisse. I hope Sweetback comes to his senses and doesn't go down with him.

    This show has enough fantastic characters and storylines running through it that it can last another 10 seasons. I for one, hope it does.

    I disagree as it's based - loosely - on what really happened back in the 20s and 30s with many of the show's characters and America as a whole.

    To be somewhat historically accurate and last another 10 seasons it would have to focus on the Mafia, and possibly not even the Mafioso that have such big roles in the show as it is at the moment.

    Good episode, enjoyed it.

    That chap who confronted Gillian at the cafe, it was his friend who Gillian injected then drowned in the bath right? To try and pass off as Jimmy's body. I wonder if that will be that or whether that chap will reappear.

    Its scope is much wider than the Mafia. In fact, thread should probably be renamed "Prohibition Drama".
