After a worldwide poll, less than 10% of people are planning to buy a 3d tv next year.

    DOA

I guess we can try 3D again in 10 years time. The cycle continues.

Avatar 3D blu ray has been announced. Due in December and only for those who buy a new Panasonic Vierra set. I'm sure it'll be around from other sources.

The Avatar 3D Blu Ray is a Panasonic excluisve for a year.

Um i did say you have to buy a panasonic set.
Plus it's exclusive to panasonic until feb 2012, however that doesn't mean they can't actually release and sell it next year.
It will be earlier than dec i imagine, it's the one film thaat would push sales for gods sake.

    Very interesting.

    This is particularly true:

3D films remind the audience that they are in a certain "perspective" relationship to the image. It is almost a Brechtian trick. Whereas if the film story has really gripped an audience they are "in" the picture in a kind of dreamlike "spaceless" space. So a good story will give you more dimensionality than you can ever cope with.

I truly hope the fuck not, but I can see it happening.
Probably. In my experience so far, 3D material *has* to have been MADE with 3D in mind, or it'll look absolutely gash.

Peter Jackson isnít going to do LOTR in 3D. He said he had a look at retrofitting 3D into it and there were two ways of doing it, one which was dirty and fast (the method used by most films) which made everything look like cardboard cutouts, the other method gave a really good result but would have effectively cost the budget of two of the films again to remake the films in 3D.

Interestingly I've always found the out of focus loading screen of Half-life 2 weird since to me it seems like my eyes try to focus on it and it becomes sharper.

I'm thinking it should be possible to unfocus an image at the view plane (tv screen) in such a way that the eye can focus it in the background. But this means unfocussing in the opposite direction from the normal out of focus backgrounds you get with a camera.

    Need a little help here:

I have a 3DTV (a Samsung one, don't know the model), but when I want to use the 3D function I get trouble calibrating the 3D. For example, Killzone 3 or Crysis 2's 3D: When I try to focus the weapon (closer things), the background (farther things) gets shadows all over the damn thing, and vice-versa. I can't really get a full-3D experience without the shadowing.

What can I do to solve this?

    Thanks

Well, I just got a new TV and it has 3D, so are there any recommended films to go for, and what console games are best? Any reputable sites discussing the 3D aspect of games and films in particular that anyone knows of?

I lurk. If I've spoken to you, I'm either impassioned, or drunk.

Havent see many films: Avatar, Saw 3d (good for 3d, but usual Saw crap), Alice in Wonderland (is ok)

Games: The Motorstom games are my favorite it 3d, Wipeout is good and Super Stardust HD. All the others like black ops, gt5 and Crysis i generally put back into 2d after messing around for a while

It will never die. Soon the 3DS will have the internet browser and then the entire internet will be in 3D. It will be too much for the puny human brain to comprehend.

The football is ok.. I tend to switch games back to 2d because of an itch that it affects the framerate to have it on..

Yeh football, it looks impressive and its weird how much shorter the players seem in 3d.
The negatives are that it gets all blurry when you are focussing on that tiny little thing to see if its a foul or offside. That and they use less cameras and different commentary.

Ocean Wonderland 3D [Blu-ray] is quite good to demonstrate 3d, actually has a lot of stuff coming out of the screen.

Took me a while to get the Samsung (p50C680) up and running, mostly because my AVR doesn't feed back the full EDID. I haven't worked out a way to get it to send the 3d through it without this yet.

Do any other Samsung plasma owners notice a buzzing from the panel?

It's somethig of a minor issue with a good few plasmas in certain conditions. My pany tends to emit a fairly inaudible buzz from time to time with images that are mostly white, for example certain web pages might cause it.

It's only noticeable if there is no sound or music playing though and it's most certainly not a constant buzz.

So where can you get 3D videos from? I have a friend with a laptop with a polarized 3D display and I was going to find a couple of videos to watch on it, but I literally cannot find a single one, aside from enormous torrent files on the pirate bay. I'm just looking for a couple of movie trailers, or even a videogame demo.

For those that use their PS3 as their 3D Blu Ray player it now supports lossless audio whilst playing 3D films in the new 3.70 software update :-D

Nope, it could only do Dolby Digital and DTS when watching 3D films.
