New video is up on Inside Xbox. Some chap from THQ talking about the E3 footage and how the team are addressing some of the complaints from 2033. Worth a watch if you played the original.

Title needs to be changed to Metro: Last Light

Absolutely loved the first one, and this looks much the same. If they just fix the stealth and make the ending not shit, I'm a happy, happy post-nuclear Soviet underground warrior.

I'll never understand these tacky live action trailers. What exactly is the point of them? Like those "not game footage" CGI ones, all they seem to do to me is make me cringe at an industry that still doesn't feel at home marketing it's products as the actual products.

A bumpette for a live action trailer. Stay with it, it's actually pretty damn good.

@asha Because THQ is reluctantto gamble precious money on the Wii U?

From the showing of 3rd party support of the Wii U by Nintendo at this year's E3 I think many publishers are in the same boat. Who can blame them?

More revenue will be generated by sticking with the two known quantities of the 360/ps3.

Oohhh ... I am not very enthusiastic when it comes to the first person shooter genre - except the Half Life series - yet this video is utterly marvellous.

I take the video is running on a PC as oppose to either PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360...?

Visually, there is so much going on, especially all the little details. The oppressing atmosphere and visceral gameplay reminds me of Killzone 2, which is a really good thing!

    Farewell multiplayer!

"Since our E3 demo back in June, many of you have been asking about the multiplayer component of Metro: Last Light. We wanted to share some information with you, the Metro community, first.

Throughout the development of Metro: Last light a small, dedicated team had been working on a number of multiplayer prototypes. After E3, we decided to fold this multiplayer team back into the main group and focus 100% of the studio’s resources on the single player campaign. As a result, Metro: Last Light will not ship with a multiplayer component.

Your response to our E3 demo made it very clear that although there was a lot of interest and intrigue around Metro’s multiplayer, the single player campaign is what the fanbase cares about the most.

We feel this is the right decision for the game and have put together a brief Q&A with a few more details below, hopefully they answer many of your questions. Thank you for being a part of our community and as always, we’d love to hear your comments!

Q: You said Metro will not ship with multiplayer. Does that mean we might see Metro MP as DLC or a standalone release at a later date?
A: Right now we’re 100% focused on the single player campaign and not thinking beyond that. We don’t like throwing away work though, it’s a project we could potentially return to after Metro: Last Light ships.

Q: Can you tell us what the multiplayer mode was going to be like?
A: For the reasons above, we’re going to keep that under wraps for now!

Q: Why did you commit to a multiplayer mode in the first place?
A: We are gamers at the studio and really wanted to bring the world of Metro to life in a multiplayer environment. It was a decision made by us at 4A from the outset and THQ have since been supportive every step of the way, including our decision to put multiplayer on hold. In hindsight, it was probably a mistake to announce it when we did, but we’re an enthusiastic team and wanted to be open about what we were making!

Q: How much better would the single player campaign have been if you’d just focused on that right from the start?
A: Fortunately, we never dedicated too many resources to the MP component beyond prototyping – it never entered full production. By making the decision when we did, we think the single player campaign will benefit as a result.

Q: Does this decision change Metro’s release date in any way?
A: No. Metro is still on target for release in early 2013
    "

    Good riddance, I say! :)

Somebody finally makes the correct decision. (although it's probably more to do with time/budget)

Wow, I wish more developers/ publishers would do this. Namely, listen to their fans. Imagine a world where we are looking forward to Dead Space 3 because it didn't have a needlessly tacked-on co-op mode or a Call of Duty vastly improved upon since the last.

For the record I am actually looking forward to both of those games, just cautiously so for DS3.

Anyway, this game has been looking good for awhile now, more people working on the campaign should only be a good thing!

I know...did pause for thought on that one. I guess the rationale is that it's not new and is old enough to have been released in a classic range should its sales have been high enough.

Looks like Last Light has a 17 May release date now:

    http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/01/metro-last-light-flickers-in-na-may-14-eu-may-17/

Looking forward to this game. This and the Last of Us are the only two upcoming releases in this gen that seem really appealing to me.

The marketing worked on me. THQ's free Metro promotion coincided with me buying my first ever proper PC! I used it to test out the new machine's capabilities and ended up loving the game from start to finish.

Safe to say that I want to repay the devs by spending some actual money on Last Light!
