If you're on Orange, don't expect it for more than a few weeks. It's so wierd I don't /need/ a software update but everytime I know one is out there I must have it. Crazy! I think it's becasue I really hate Touchwiz and Sense, I'm hoping ICS will make it harder for OEM's to muck up Android. Not to mention networks doing a chop job on top of it. :/

Skimmed the ICS review, not big on the interface changes to be honest. What are peoples main reason for upgrading?

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

If O2 are going to roll out the update by the end of March I can wait.

I bet it'll be April or later though.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Ah, done some checking around. Seems like TouchWiz will run on top of ICS anyway. And look /exactly/ the same :o(

Looks like I'll be rooting my SG Note afterall.

Apex launcher that only runs on ICS looks like a good way around touchwiz launcher.

Went from Gingerbread to Honeycomb on my HTC Flyer. It is better more stable but I liked the Gingerbread layout better.

Hope it stays the same on SGS2 otherwise I'm not doing it. Because then it looks worse.

So has anyone went from Litening rom to clean ICS and how did they do it? I can't update via KIES...

Is it as simple as wiping my phone and flashing the official o2 rom using Odin?

I believe so, there's some simple instructions in the XDA thread where they make the firmwares available for download.

I was just terrified of bricking it (no insurance!) but yeah that was easy. Kies still doesn't like my phone but meh, I'll survive without that bloated phone manager to update my phone. Odin is so fast!

Okay, warning to anyone who uses google chrome sync for their bookmarks and is about to put ICS on their phone.

It wiped all of my bookmarks. Gone. Had a backup from 3 months ago but that's it. Fuck.

Has anyone got any tips for battery performance on the SGS2? I work 9-5 and find by the time I get home it's down to approx 65%. I listen to music for about 2 hours and surf for maybe 30 mins.

    Thanks.

Root it, obtain superuser permission and then underclock the CPU

Put on a custom rom that suits your fancy.
Westcrip AOKP ROM has been getting me to 11 hours with over 3 hours of screen time while running background sync with around 30% battery left.

Cheers. Is it quite straight forward? I'm a little worried about bricking it.

Let me get this right, you work a full day and its only lost 35%
That's perfectly fine tbh. My nexus s is usually around 20-30% mark by this time

a Nexus a day keeps the apple away

I'm speaking about an international GS2.

First thing you need to check is that yours is the same hardware as an I9100. Then browse around the XDA forums.

    Assuming it is then:
Install a rooted kernel. ( fiddly but well documented, make sure it has the custom recovery built in)
    Buy Titanium backup.
    Buy better battery stats.

You can use better battery stats to analyse what's waking up your phone and try freezing those processes with Titanium backup.

For example BBS showed me that the Hotmail client was raping my battery, so I started using the stock email client.

If you're feeling more adventurous after that:
    Install SMS backup and restore.
Install Call log backup and restore ( free versions are fine)
    Use both of those.
Do a full titanium backup of Apps but not system.
Go to recovery menu ( reboot with home + up volume + power)
Do a backup from there ( similar to a ghost image on a PC)
Then use the recovery menu to wipe the phone.
Install the Rom and App package.
Wipe cache and dalvik-cache ( dalvik is in advanced)
Reboot, link to your Google account and redownload titanium back up.
    Restore apps using TB
    Restore call logs and SMS.

Having said all this I'd agree your battery stats aren't bad.

This seems to promise some significant improvements in the future. Basically better code efficiency, so tasks are done quicker... Therefore using less battery.

Thanks for that, that's really helpful. I saw a tip to uninstall task killer, so gave that a try and it does seem to have improved the performance already!
