It's strange, I've heard people say there's too much grinding, yet I've barely done any and made my way through the game at a reasonable pace. Oh well, each to there own I suppose.

Registered 7 years agoI was thinking the same thing last night, the only 'grinding' I'm doing is ticking off as many of the side quests as I can when they appear, which doesn't count as grinding in my book.
Even the bosses don't seem too hard once I worked out that you need to use the defend button, I'm getting through most of them within a couple of attempts. -

Registered 2 years agoI think that's the issue. Side quests really are a must as you go along or you'll need to grind. Familiars help too though. With a decent front line it's hard to be beaten -

Registered 7 years agoYeah i think once you understand the familiars, it can help a lot. Neolith (from monolith - meg) is fantastic for me. I paired her up with esther, and she uses that more than durongo.
Also i found getting rid of swaine normal one, and replacing it with tinny helped alot. Got him paired up with lehmal and sid.
Problem is, its taken me near the end of the game to understand them and all and the nuisances. But i breeze through battles with my set up, thus far anyway.PSN - Cloudsheaven

I thought I might be. I went on to do that bit which had a boss I had to fight TWICE, although thankfully the second time was much, much easier thanks to a certain item you get. My party are at level 45/46 and the familiars are around level 40 or so from memory, all maxed out in terms of metamorphing. The section I did started off a bit tough plus I had trouble navigating the maze like layout until I remembered that I had a map (duh!) then it was straight forward. Once I levelled to 46 enemies then started running away which was handy for finding my way through.Darren wrote:
You are certainly nearing the end. So you might want to go through some side quests. What level are you?
I've reached the Marshes section of this incredible game after 34 hours of playing it but I'm wondering how near I am to the end. If I'm close then I want to finish as many of the optional side quests and bounty hunts as I can before doing the final stretch. I don't want to look at a walkthrough for fear of spoilers. Anyone?
Terrific game and easily my favourite RPG on the PS3. I'm currently finishing off the optional quests (I found that third pigeon!) and bounty hunts before going on to do the last stretch. My niece and nephews came down at weekend and were hooked on the game, being fans of Japanese anime. They couldn't believe how good it looked.Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, Wii, PC (Intel Core i7-920 @ 3.8 GHz, 12 GB, 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 SLI, Windows 8 Pro), iPad 4

Does this game have a bug as I did the VileHeart boss fight then fought him again, granted much easier a second time, then when I went onto to kill the first normal enemy on the world map (it was attempting to run away), I got 9,300 XP for the battle that lasted all of three seconds!!!Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, Wii, PC (Intel Core i7-920 @ 3.8 GHz, 12 GB, 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 SLI, Windows 8 Pro), iPad 4

I "believe" that was where the DS version finished. You're now in the PS3 exclusive part of the story
Sort of ending spoilers ahead.
So just defeated shadar. And have seemed to gone into this extra extra ending thing. Which is a bit weird has i really liked the 'shadar' ending, and now i have to remuster energy to sort of carry on. You get a pretty definitive sort of ending after you defeat him. Loved the little 'twist' they play on shadar's role, and felt it was in keeping with the story.
So carry on i shall tomorrow! On Twitter: @HiddenAway1

Did you beat a monster called a TokoToko - small green Totoro-like creature with a staff? They give out EXP around that range in the area.

Registered 6 years agoI haven't managed to find this anywhere. Online seems to be £40-45 minimum and it is nowhere to be seen in shops. I've seen a pre-owned copy in game for £43!!!! Won't pay that for a pre-owned on principle. That leaves PSN's £50... -

Registered 7 years agoI saw a few copies in GAME last week, the week before I saw some Ni no Kuni boxes but they weren't selling the actual game, just download codes at £44.95.
When we already know that the PS4 won't support PS3 games, that's a real bargain.
The publisher mismatched supply and demand and messed up the launch. -

Anyone got any tips for using familiars?
I seem to be doing it wrong. I've got 4 now and unsure on how to pair them between the two characters and when I should be using them. -

I actually expect that sort of behaviour in any JRPG nowadays - doesn't make it any easier to take. I had to redo a third time before I finally blasted him into the ether.

Tips and advice if you want it (contains potential ending spoilers too so others will need to be careful):
The dark spell you carry is good for blasting all the enemies at once. It's a decent idea to equip one of those accessories to intensify the darkness tricks (they work for Oliver's spells too - at least I think they do) and fire until the minions are dead, then start working on the big guy for as long as you can. The "extra helper" also helps out with the odd healing spell and revive but it takes ages to cast so only rely on it in an emergency.
If you can stomach a few hours at the casino playing Platoon, head there and swap your chips for the potion there. I think they heal 100HP and MP in one go.
Also, as a general question, did Phoenix Breath EVER work properly for anyone else? It's supposed to revive everyone to full HP but it only went up to half...On Twitter: @HiddenAway1

Registered 7 years ago@joelstinton More hints (again spoilered for those who don't want to know until they've attempted it)
The one attack you really need to look out for is Chaos - that will whack out 250 HP and he'll usually follow up straight away with a Shockwave or other attack. If you see Chaos being readied, get everyone defending and block it to minimise the damage because you'll be taking some time to recover afterwards.
Oh, and through past experience, he ALWAYS starts with Chaos - I think that's a scripted move to allow you to talk to your team after the shot.
Finally, (you probably know this) you're fully healed at the start of the final battle, though I can't vouch for any who are KO'd when the 2nd phase is beaten. So, don't waste any items on phase 2 if you can help it!On Twitter: @HiddenAway1

Is that unlocked before or after the final boss though? I must admit that I didn't spot him until post-game but I was sure I went to Ara Memoria before finishing the game and he wasn't there - wouldn't hurt to check of course

Registered 7 years agoI tried that humperfunk, and no one there? unless i missed something.
Anyway!
Beat the fudger.
Stocked on cheese burgers and cappacucinos and dished them out willy nilly spamming evenstar.
Got a squeaky bum time near the end as he spells became frequent, a couple of times i lost two members and had two take drastic actions (more cheeseburgers!). Near the end i used the wizard tonic that restored all HP AND MP to all members which sealed the deal!
Great game! Really enjoyed it.PSN - Cloudsheaven

Does anyone else find it kind of funny how Ni No Kuni was made in about 2 years and has beaten all of Square-Enix's attempts at a good RPG this gen?

This honestly is the best JRPG I've played this gen. I can't stop playing it!!

Really enjoying this game.
For those struggling to find a good price, I bought mine from Zavvi with one of those 'we miss you' 10% discount codes for 31 quid and it only took 2 days to get to me.
Surprised at how fluid, enjoyable and challenging the combat is. -
