    Hijacking this thread.

Gonna be buying a new MBP in the coming months. Would getting the top spec 15" model really be worth it for just general use, writing and a small bit of gaming (CS:S etc) or would the base i5 model be just fine?

Even if you were still on windows I wouldn't recommend Office, it's for cunts.

@Slurmish, you'll be fine with a standard white macbook for that.

    :)

Do you know anyone who is a student or teacher? You can get about 15% off

I used to be a student. The good thing about the Irish Apple store is that it doesn't use proxies so I can order as a student anyway!
One more thing, is the extra 100 euro for the high res screen worth it?
  • Deleted user 25 June 2010 22:45:45
Dunno. Do you need a higher res screen? :D

Remember OS X doesn't really allow you to adjust the size of system fonts, so you'll be dealing with very tiny letters on the hi-res screen. Best check in a store, if they even have one.

Ah right, I'll try and find one in a store here (unfortunately we have no official Apple store though!) and see how it looks.

Soooo finally picked it up today and this is the very first place I visited. First post from our beautiful new MacBook Pro

Went for the 15" in the end - the 17" is just too heavy.
    A thing of beauty.

Finally ordered my 15" MBP. Base model, didn't go for the hi-res in the end.

Only problem is its a refurb and it's gonna take ages to ship

I know where it is I am just struggling to actually find it and turn it off ;)

Beautiful machine, really loving everything about it and the family are the same just so easy to use.

It's nuts but I use a laptop PC everyday in work and even after a week I am trying to do things with the trackpad on the PC that I do on it and it's pissing me off. Crazyness. Fuck I am in danger of running down the Mac freak road naked :(

    One question though:

    iPhoto

I know there has to be a way of changing the default location for pictures.
We want to be able to import photos to the same location for whoever is logged in.

How the hell do you do that?

Haha, extending windows to fill the screen for no reason :D

Don't worry about the off switch, no one turns macs off, they're pretty damn good at power saving.

For iPhoto you need to move the iPhoto library to a shared location (HD > Users > Shared > Pictures) then set the permissions (Apple + I, permissions are at the bottom) so that everyone can read & write.

I know what I need to do (already done it for iTunes) but there doesn't appear to be a setting in iPhoto to set the location of the folder.
