I never completed Skyward Sword. The controls spazzed out on me too often (for my liking) resulting in having to do entire dungeon sections again, making me very cross. Every time I thought about playing it I ended up remembering I had to use the wii controls and left it on the shelf. Real barrier of entry for me. Such a shame they didn't give you a choice of control method.
It might be worth giving it another go, trying to play with calibration and stuff.
Some aspects of the game such as Fi and the handholding drove me mad but the ending is utterly lovely.

Nah not for me, it's not horrible, but it's my least favourite Zelda art style so far.

I also hate the NSMB art style, I think the Wii U one looks especially arse like as you can see the art style a lot more clearly.

I think it can look nice here :

But generally I agree that they could do a hell of a lot better in 2D than that.

Look at Kirby's Epic Yarn and the Wario game on the humble Wii.

The boos look good, but I hate the style of Mario there, I can't quite place my finger on why, but I think it just looks a bit pre rendered or something.

Fair enough, I hope the "New" Mario Bros series is finished now and any new 2d games will be fresher.

I loved and loathed this game but the art style is gorgeous, would love a similar style for the next one.
I think the art style perfectly fits the style of the game; too 'realistic' just doesn't fit for me.

Regarding the controls, having to regularly reset was annoying; it would reset when switching to the pointer view and since I'd often be pointing off screen the pointer would be messed up and I'd have to manually reset it.

So, just finished this game, must say it's been a great journey! Up there with the best Zeldas story-wise and some nice fresh ideas gameplay-wise too.

Though I did have some issues with the controls at times, I must say I loved the Motion+ implementation and would actually prefer if they kept it for the eventual WiiU Zelda. Ihope it doesn't take 5 more years till they come up with a sequel though.

Time to buy that Zelda book now that I fear not from spoilers!

I am about 50% through at the moment I think. I have found the controls a bit hit and miss. Sometimes they blatantly do not work.

@rock27gr Did you manage to do the harp playing duet in the Lumpy Pumpkin Inn? I spent over an hour trying and gave up.

Any examples of them really not working? Found them OK so far. Even the flying was not bad at all.

So far the combat has been a bit hit and miss, stabbing motions don't always register.

    @PazJohnMitch

Yeah, failed the first time, but managed to barely do it second time around.

The biggest problem I found with the controls were with bowling the bombs, fine apart from that.

The only controller issue I had was with my nunchuck, I realised about halfway through that it was broken as it was far too sensitive and kept doing spin attacks when I wanted to slash. I'd got that far despite it though, and some deep down Scottish genes in me wouldn't allow me to spend any money on a new one. Unplugging it and hitting it on the coffee table would make it work a bit better though.

I addressed one of the issues in my Skyward Sword video here:

Basically, when you're using items or anything that involves pointing to aim, you need to set your neutral position before selecting the item.

Does this game ever actually end? Every time I think it's winding up for the end game, there's another multi-part fetch quest to dive into. There's no real reason that certain NPCs should want to 'test' you twice, and there's surely no reason that the Song of the Hero needs to be split into four, which each bit presumably requiring me to go through some sort of trial or test.

It all feels a bit filler-y at the moment. Yesterday I had to dive for tadtones, and at first I thought 'this is easily the worst thing I've ever done in a Zelda game'. But after a minute it started to feel almost a bit calming and therapeutic. I appreciate that they switch up the areas and the things that you're asked to do - and crucially, the gameplay is still fun - but I'm feeling like the game is starting to go on too long - I've got 44 hours on the clock.

Maybe it's just that I've played three Zelda games in a row since Christmas.

FFXIV: ARR - Khroma Midgard, Odin.
