Top stuff, hopefully they'll keep the survival mode in there.

I got an email linking to the trailer. It got me wondering if they're just going to redo the original? I liked the first back then but didn't play them past that, not sure if I'd be interested in playing it again to be honest.

    Iím sort of tentatively interested.

I have a nasty feeling itíll be a Ďlike GTA butí game which would suck, but if the driving is as challenging (and thus as rewarding) as the original it could stand alone and be counted.

I really hope they don't try for GTA. It would be a waste.

There is a San Francisco keyring in that video as well, which hopefully means that City is making an appearance. I'm quite excited for this, the original nailed the fun most of the time. Fingers crossed Ubisoft manage to capture the handling and excitement of racing through the streets.

    OK.

    I'll be the first.

Made me want to play the original again. Problem is, last time I tried on an emulator I couldn't get past the sodding driving test.

I think he just failed the reverse 180, tbh.

Brought back happy memories, though. Fingers crossed it can return to greatness.

Pfft the driving test was simple. You want to try the last level. Hardest level of a game, ever.

I know so many people who never got past the driving test.

I don't know how I completed that a few times, maybe it was just random luck. It was immense when you just about got to the end with little damage room left and basically get smacked over the line, phew.

I loved the driving test, it was something you could come back to again and again until you got it right, and it definitely had a beneficial effect on your overall driver-game driving skills.

Completing the last level was, indeed, one of my more rewarding gaming moments - finally escaping all those nasty people, and saving the President, was fun. Even though the game accelerated the baddies beyond rational physics, if you could keep your momentum up, make every turn correctly, and use the straight bits to keep checking behind you for the exact trajectory of the incoming enemies, then it was possible to scrape through and emerge victorious.

In a way, it took until GTA IV for the GTAs to return to the heavy, 1970s movie-style handling pioneered in Driver... here is hoping any new Driver incarnation isn't like Driv3r again, in its aspiration to be 'like GTA... but', as kalel says.

I'm pretty sure that UbiSoft have already registered the domain names Driver: San Francisco, and Driver: The Recruit, so that's two pretty big clues right there I'd say.

No, the best thing about Driver was the weighty driving model. Took a level of mastering that hadn't been seen before. And the burnout button was a master stroke.

No the best bit about Driver was the survival mode starting in the park. great pass and play right there. Its actually how I would play GTA once completed, especially Vice City. Didnt like the police model in GTA IV, so hopefully the new Driver will be back to its original routes.

If doen right this could be amazing.

No the best thing about Driver was how the hubcaps came off on tight corners.

Yeah, that was pretty smart especially if they then overtook you :)

I held an awesome record with survival mode on the San Francisco map. Drive over the crest of a hill and stop and wait for all the police to hurtle recklessly over the top of you then reverse back and let them do it again. I think I lasted about 45 minutes before getting bored.

Fuppin' loved the original Driver. Managed to complete it, but I dunno how because I'm shite at driving games. I thought the PC original was released on some random DD service (thought it was Gamersgate) but can't see it there now.

I managed to park a car vertically on Driver 3. That's to say it was parked on its nose, with all 4 wheels out to the side. Best replay I ever saved. I loved the replay mode.

Driver is a classic example of the type of game I was lamenting the loss of in my thread a few weeks back. Games that asked a little patience of the player for them to learn a skill. It really does make for a far more rewarding experience, but with so many instantly gratifying GTA type games around, it would be brave for them to take this approach now.

    Still, I hope they do.
