On the Bethesda Skyrim forums they are complaining that the 1.2 patch breaks elemental and magic resistances for player and npcs. So you can kill a fire spirit with fireballs, that kind of thing.

Apparently a problem on Ps3 and Xbox. Might be worth refusing the patch on Xbox as that sounds like a biggy (especially for wizardy characters)

have you tried getting Conjuration up? Summon a monster to fight for you (or reanimate a corpse) and they take all attention while you rain the arrows down on them. Also always poisen your arrows helps so much!
I do use poison, or slow or paralysis on the arrows. Need some kind of duplicate glitch to get more of them though.

I do have 'Summon Flame Atronach', but forget to use it!!

So the patch makes the game worse then? I've not experienced anything game braking in my 34 hours of play (touches wood) and I save often so pretty much always got something to fall back to if things go tits up.

I like it when people describe items which are an amazing fun find and a great surprise on forum threads.

Anyone else done the Black Star quest (Azuras star)? So far I have come accross 2 bastard hard mages who take me down in seconds. I let lydia get all close and personal first but she gets downed in seconds then I am basically toast. Tried everything, archery, dual weilding (no magic on my character.) Shouts are pretty ineffective and the 2 mages summon the dead weaker mages so its a bastard of a fight. left my spell blocker sheild at home. Got past the first one by charging in before she got a shot off and prolly a bit of luck on the 7th attempt. Any ideas? I'm level 29

Remember, unlike Oblivion you don't get xp for completing quests so doing many of them means nothing if you're not using your skills. Walking aimlessly around the world and visiting caves will help as you'll meet more ennemies. It might also depend on the sort of character you play.
I play a sneaky archer most of the time so I also use Muffle to stay quiet and recently I've started to use a bound bow. That's Sneak, Illusion, Conjuration and Archery all going up at once.
But yeah there are cheap ways of doing it I guess.

I got it from buying a spell, I haven't seen no such staff.

Where did you get the Muffle and Bound Bow spells? Did you buy them in Winterhold? Not been there yet...

So, if you download the patch, any resistances you have to fire, or ice, or lightning, will be nullified, as do any resistances any NPCs have! Astonishing.

I usually use my anti-fire or anti-ice resistance when fighting Dragons and Atronarchs/Mages, as otherwise I get melted relatively quickly. It's a little disappointing that this entire resistance mechanic is completely broken in this patch, even, apparently, for poison resistance.

I have an especially slow handclap for Bethesda that I have, until now, managed to resist using for Skyrim, but I think this warrants it. I mean, great work on fixing the textures, but losing all resistances might be a compromise I'm not really willing to make.

Pretty much confirmed the latest patch has removed all resistance and weakness multiplayers from the player and NPCs.

Also the texture streaming issue is improved not eradicated on 360.

Shame, think ill wait on this one, was looking forward to no disc drive noise :(

I did that at a much lower level and it was quite hard then. Someone mentioned a good tactic if you have the ghostly shout thing with mages. Use it and run right up to them, unghost and smack them.
I tend to just use 3rd stage unrelenting force, that way you get get a couple of hits in as they try to get up.

I am loving the game, but this resistance bug seems a big balls up.

I think I will try to role-play my way through the problem (just imagine that it's some weird global storm in the invisible fields of magic energy that have disabled everyone's resistances. And not a Bethesda developer what done it.)

If we try the update and don't like it, we can remove just the 1.2 update by deleting it from the 'Skyrim' part of the hard-drive? Are different updates stored separately? Can you delete 1.2 but keep 1.1?

I think I used my usual tactic of sniping for sneak criticals with my bow, mining my exit with a shock rune and then retreating until they "lost" me before going back in.

Remember that when you go back to hand this quest in, there are two paths you can take. Keep a save safe before you choose. I think one has a significantly better reward.

I haven't finished this one yet because I get mullahed by the end boss(es) but I've passed the point of choosing the best reward :(

I think you can just refuse it and sign out, now I think about it. That way your clock gets set :)

I was doing the Tholmor Embassy mission last night and despite using my best sneaking stuff and being level 90 odd in sneaking it was bloody impossible to do it stealthy, I swear those sodding elf twats could smell me!

Please don't use the delete button, think of the children.
