Can I design a house? Or is it an IKEA job?

@wuntyphyve DO IT, don't be me!

You just have to complete the mission "Bleak Falls Barrow" this puts you in good favour with the top dogs in the first big City Whiterun. Once you have done it you speak to Proventus Avenicci and buy a house for 5000 gold.

One thing i really should have done.
You get a much nicer house via the Hearthstone DLC. But it does take a bit of effort to build it...

Ha ha. You'll see. If I'm incapable of building my own house in real life I may as well do it in a bloody game.

It's not going to go well is it.

@Alastair So is the Hearthstone DLC just integrated into the main game or do I need to unlock something first?

I got the Special Edition on PS4 at Christmas, so it was all included...
If you have it then you need to buddy up to the Jarl in either Falkreath, Dawnstar or Morthal. Once you've done a few missions for them you can tell their assistant guy that you want to buy a house and they will sell you a plot of land instead.
Go there and there will be a Design Table, Carpenters bench and Anvil. Also nearby will be somewhere to dig up clay and somewhere to mine stone.
Use the design table to pick the part of the house to build, then the carpenters bench to build it.
You will need A LOT of iron to make nails, locks, hinges etc.
You can buy lumber from the lumber mill in Falkreath and it gets delivered.

It's worth getting a steward - some followers will offer to be your steward once the house is a certain size (think it needs the main hall). You can then pay them to furnish all the rooms - it takes a bit of game time, but they actually do a decent job.
Then you can move in your missus and adopt a kid (if you want)

The one thing I haven't worked out is how to put stuff in the glass display cases...

There is no way on earth Wunty, that you would keep you missus and kid alive in Skyrim.

No fucking way. They'd be dead in an instant.

I'm up for Marrying that Vampire Selena, reckon she's keen? It's just the way she always says "done and done" every 30 seconds, really endearing.

How does the marriage thing work? Can you marry anyone?

    I'm asking for a friend.

@quadfather You have to be wearing an amulet of some sort, when you have it on then you can go grafting the men OR women.

That reminds me, my skyrim character is nails. I mean absolutely nails - can take on anything without breaking a sweat.

But there's this ONE spriggin earth mother wood spirit thing, guarding something in a cave and for the live of me she won't fucking drop. I've honestly hacked her to fucking death but she just won't die

Had a game save about 30 hours in and the save gets currupt and won't load. Can't stomach starting from scratch gutted. Back to my oblivion save I think.

For marriage you have to speak to the priest in the Temple of Mara in Riften about the Mara Amulet which you can buy for a couple of hundred coins. If you wear that various NPCs will treat you like you're the slightly weird-faced Channing Tatum and will mention marriage as soon as you talk to them.

I think you can also get an amulet in a quest for free but I forget which one.

That sounds like too much work for a marriage.

I basically still have to do the Dark Brotherhood, Daedric artefacts and some crime sprees.

What's the simplest/quickest way to pick 50 pockets?

Skyrim marriage is a bit weird. You do get bonuses from it. They give you money from their business, let you live in their house and have a learning bonus if you sleep in the same bed as them (unless you're a werewolf that doesn't get sleep bonuses). The fact it happens so fast does make it feel like you didn't have to work for it at all. I had to work harder to impress someone in GTA.

I'd still like to do some smithing (I just finished the main story), is there a way to do it to make it less tiresome? Maybe I just don't get it though, it seems I can only make pure shite and if I want to make good stuff it will mean carrying many different ingots and ores?

Decided to carry on, finish up some bits. Seriously one of the best games I've ever played.
The quickest way to level smithing is to find something magical with the banish skill on it. Disenchant that, and then buy 50 million daggers and enchant them all with the banish skill on.
That levels up enchanting though, not smithing
