It's not the ability of the players that ia the issue. I don't think a single one of those Montenegro players would have made the England team. The team last night should have absolutely crushed them.
Jovetic is much better than Wellbeck.

You are a factory of sadness.

Maybe part of the problem is desire or the will to win/succeed.. when you're already a multi millionaire are you really that bothered to dig really deep and push yourself to the limit in an International game?

For once Roy Keane was spot on with his final summary.

Maybe as a back up plan you can all start watching Belgium as a surrogate? 8 of the 11 guys we fielded last night were premiership players. It'll feel English enough.
Provided that they get there, I think Belgium are a pretty good bet to be the "surprise package" of the tournament.

And yeah, I'd take Jovetic or Vucinic up front ahead of Welbeck any day of the week.

According to Football Manager Wales and Belgium become the dominant forces in international football after 2014

This is a big part of the problem. English players are not that good. Our press and pundits and analysts would have you believe they are but they're way off the level of the top nations, technically and mentally.
To be honest, this is as much of a stupid, cliched attitude as the one you are complaining about. Its the football equivalent of militant atheism.

I'm not saying they're world beaters, but technically they are good players, playing for top teams, in a very good league. Together, with the right management - which I think Hodgson etc are - they should be able to at least play decent football.

Rooney, Gerrard, Wilshere, Cole, Hart - these are world class players.

Germany are what England should be: individually good, collectively obscenely good.

There is a middle ground between expecting us to be world beaters up there with the likes of Spain, and accepting being no better than the likes of Montenegro and Poland.

Our place is not among the ultra-elite, but we are still currently massively under-achieving.

The thing is, these are talented players. Every week they prove that they can hold, pass and shoot the ball as well as most players in the world.

Its just when they get together they turn to shit.

I know theres the 'yeah, well the better foreign players in their teams flatter them' but being without Robin Van Persie doesnt suddenly mean you cant hit a pass or keep the ball for more than a few seconds.

Cole has been a bit hit and miss this season too, he does seem to have hit some form of late but he's on the decline too imo.

I think it's fair to say that the pitch last night was truly awful and it didn't benefit either side but it especially made England look shonky. Although it's worth noting the Vucinic's touch was pretty awesome at times, a touch that no England player has.

You are a factory of sadness.

Form is temporary, class is permanent etc.

Undoubtedly Gerrard and Cole are past their prime though.

Customary feelings of hope mixed with doom? Must be an Irish International qualifying night.

The previous fixture between these two (in Sweden that time) was a draw despite it being the worst performance by a Swedish team that I've ever seen. Ireland just weren't set up to take advantage of the the constant possession that kept coming our way. The feeling should be that a home win is possible but surely they can't play as badly again...
