true. I didn't mention it because I heard somewhere that youtube was broken for the PS3 recently and haven't checked it since. Probs bollocks.

And is around €150 from teh Germans. Sounds like a winner.
The Samsung C5300 (or C5500 too) matches and exceeds the BD390 in functionality and beats it substantially in price -

You've never had the experience of trying to play an HD MKV file on the PS3 without prior full file conversion then.
I'll take issue with that reflux
I run PS3 media server off a netbook with no worries
I watch streaming stuff off the web (mostly sport and porn) all the time. It looks better on the telly than it does my laptop. I don't find may vids it can't play. (ITV player and 40d don't work though). -

Yeah, I could never get HD stuff transferring from my netbook either. Thankfully MKV2VOB converts a 4gb movie file in about 10 minutesJazzy_Geoff wrote:

Registered 4 years agoIt works as along as you don't ff or rw or pause or basically do anything that isn't just watching the film. And that's with 720p stuff. If I want to do otherwise I copy across. Not a massive problem really. -

Registered 5 years agoI have a Samsung BD something or other... can't remember exactly. My PS3 however does a much better job at playing blu-rays, it's much faster.
(I still stream the sound from the PS3 to the BD to get my surround sound though.) -

Make sure you plug the sound cables in eh phage? -

Buy whichever one is cheapest.

To be fair I bought a BD player as I thought it would be better than the PS3 for blu-rays. I didn't beleive that a multi task machine would perform as well as a dedicated player for the same price.

It was only much later when I got the PS3 that I realised it was actually as good as / better than my samsung player.

Only one Blu-ray player on the market is able to play Uncharted 2
Buy that one.
edit:
And if you happen to have a Sony TV, you can use the remote with the PS3 for uncluttered -1 awesomeness. -

The PS3 is a very good BR player, and now they added bitstreaming to the BR playback in the Slim, has decent sound. I have an original fat though, and so it doesnt bitsream BR disks.
More importantly though, they dont bitstream HD audio from MKVs, and I rip all my BR disks to the drobo, and stream off the PC. -

Registered 7 years agoTwo options.
Buy PS3 and be happy that you can now rise above the fanboyness and into the hallowed heavens of dual platform ownership.
Don't buy PS3 And risk someone making up a nickname for you, something like Fanboy phAge.
Fanboy phAge has a ring to it that, if it referred to me, would probably make me throw myself in the canal.
So there you have it.
Choose heaven or Choose the local canal.

Registered 6 years agoThe PS3 is apparently faster at loading than a large amount of stand alone players cheap and expensive. It also pretty much does anything a stand alone can do and will also do 3D out of the box via an update.
You need to really hate Sony to not consider it a brilliant investment for bluray viewing...imo.

Registered 9 years agoDon't buy a PS3, its shit.
Ive got a standalone BD player and 360. "PS3 Media player" or whatever the software's called has streamed everything from my PC to my TV throught the 360 with no issues.
So there really is no incentive to buy what will essentially disappoint you.

Registered 4 years agoTBH unless you buy a PS3 immediately I will ban you from this forum forever. -
This is one of the dumbest threads I have ever seen.
I'm not a big fan of Sony's hardware, never had particularly good experiences with them in the past. Except for a Radio Alarm clock that I have had for around 15 years and as good as the day I bought it.
But the PS3 is a damn good BR Player
It can be kept up to date with latest standards via firmware updates
You can use it stream content from your PC (from personal experience, by that I mean MY OWN experience, not saying it's the same for everyone, it was easier to setup the PS3 streaming than it was the 360)
It can play a wide range of online content including easy access to iPlayer
Also, as a little side bonus it can play games. Only a total fucking mong wouldn't see that as a bonus.
For what you are after it, it makes NO sense not to buy one. And throw away the pads?? WTF?? That's even dumber than what you said in the OP.
Seriously, unless you are 14 I would be pretty ashamed of what appears to be nothing more than some kind of stupid fanboyism. -
