Games tied to your subscription is just plain retarded.

Look at it from Sony's side.

They'd get people signing up for 3 months, grabbing the free games that they wanted and then leaving it for a while until they signed up again to get the games that they wanted again.

EDIT: They learnt their lesson with Continuous Play.

Well yeah, looking at it from Sony's viewpoint they obviously will make more money from it this way. But it's such a cheap, money grabbing tactic.

Full Game Trial is a good idea. Let's hope MS nicks it.

well having read up on it it's bollocks innit?

most of the stuff they mentioned giving away I either have or is on PSP which I have no use for. There seems to be little choice in the other freebies so fair chance I'm not actually going to want them. I don't care about themes and even less about avatars and firstplay. Not that arsed about paying for demos. Automatic downloads as something to pay for is a pisstake.

Trying to stealth the fact that you are only renting the games in is a real cunts trick, automatic downloads........wow..... early demos....................... amazing.........avatars....ooo a picture......

Its an absolute pile of shite and to try and get 40 quid a year for it beyond a piss take.

You really have to LOL at Sony sometimes.

    Steam - iN5OMANiAC
    PSN - iN5OMANiCAL

Errm, you don't have to pay for it if you don't think it's worth it, I know I won't. It's not as if you can't do what you do now for free. A cynic might suggest that will change but pointless to speculate until they do try and shift stuff thar is currently free onto the paid service.

Thats right, you dont have to pay for it, and I wont, but you can still sit back and laugh at the whole preposterous idea for free ! Yippeeeeeeeeee !

That's a really poorly stacked deck from Sony, if they were hoping to tempt people in, they're not likely to do so with a paltry deal like that.

I was a little perturbed to hear "Get Wipeout HD for free.... whilst you're a subscriber".

That aside, not impressed by the feature list. Doubt I'll sign up until they've beefed it up or I can grab it on an offer.

    I don't think it's bad value for US $50 a year, but I don't think I'll bother with it.

I can't buy from the US store any more. My virtual Visa which worked fine on there a couple of months ago doesn't work now. Not sure what's caused that, because nothing's changed in terms of the card or details.

For £40 a year, that's £3.30 a month. To get a new game each month (even if only as a rental), plus the 1 hour demo thing, that's good enough for me.

Also I bet you will need to be a plus subscriber to play any future MMOs like FF14 or Conan/LotRO if they ever make it across.

It could be worse, they could charge you £40 for peer-to-peer gaming.

It sounds far, far better value than XBL but doubt I'll get it..

Well they seem to be aimed at different sectors. XBox Gold is very much aimed at multiplayer, (and it does a great job.) Whereas PSN seems more aimed at single player benefits (demos, rentals etc.) As I don't player multiplayer apart from the odd game of Ashes Cricket or Catan I see a lot of value in PSN Plus but none in Gold. Whereas 80% of people are probably the exact opposite to me.

you get the 4 games each month, so access to 48 games a year, plus the discounts will work out at way more than 4 games a year for free, plus the other features.

4 Games each month. Even if just one of them is any good and the rest are poo it sounds like a pretty decent deal.

I do like the idea of the Automatic Download thing too. I expect there would be another menu option in the settings part of the XMB. Where, you can tell the machine to check for and download all the relevant and available Firmware and Game updates.
It will be interesting to see how it knows what Game updates you need.
Will it track the game saves on the HDD or will there be a large tick list where you can list the games you own?

I also love the fact they arent currently planning to charge for the current service. I love the PSN and the hassle free and simple way it works and I wouldnt want that to change should I decide not to go +.

Hi, the sign up offer throughout Europe is a free download copy of LBP if you subscribe before Aug 3rd for 1 year membership. The US sign up offer gives you 15 months for the price of 12, thatís what Jack was referring to in his speech.

Not been on the blog much. They seem quick to answer alot of the questions. :-)
