It seemed like a lot longer, but Bubble Bobble was worth it.

    Portable view - Never forget.

Well, I had an Amstrad CPC 464 (the first '4' meant tape, the '64' meant the memory - no, not 64MB but... 64KB) and the tape player made this great noise as it loaded:

    Duh-duuuh-doooh (the pitch went normal-high-low)... tingle-tingle-tingle (times about 100).

    Ah, those were the days.

    Good old Dizzy ^^...

And the fuzzy lines! It took longer to load so that it could load the picture, lol!

C64 were much better. None of those 'tingle tingle' loading noises. They only made manly noises. They growled at you like the beasts they were. Unfortunately that also meant that they chewed the odd tape up.

Loading games were where it was at. When you got a game to play come up on screen while the main game was loading, that's when you knew you had a wait on your hands.

Piss. My Plus subscription ran out this morning but I only noticed after adding Demons Souls to my cart at 15.99. Then I redeemed a code for 3 months of Plus, then went back to my cart and saw the 15.99 for DS was crossed out, so I confirmed purchase, only to be charged the 15.99 :-(

    Anything i can do?
Just thought I'd join the general warm fuzzy Sony love-in going on at the moment and report that I called their customer services (just once) and they have refunded the money :)

Has anyone got Uncharted 3 to play yet ? I'm now downloading the multiplayer bit, so that will be everything.

    That's good to hear!

I know, I remember those days. My question was about loading times on the C64. I remember Ataris being very slow, but I don't remember how the C64 was in that respect. I was a Spectrum guy and those games took 3-4 minutes to load, hence my "you poor guys". :-)

You must have just had some very small spectrum games as many took 10-20 mins at least. A few were even both sides of a the tape.

    Not true.

Wikipedia: "Naturally, a standard 48K program would take about 5 minutes to load: 49152 bytes 8 = 393216 bits; 393216 bits / 1350 baud ≈ 256 seconds = 4:16 minutes. In reality, however, a 48K program usually took between 34 minutes to load (because of different number of 0s and 1s encoded using pulse-width modulation, and not all memory needs load), and 128K programs could take up to 11:23 minutes to load."

So, a 10-minute load time would be the exception, and only on 128K Spectrums, not the rule.

@dominalien It seemed far longer than that to my impatient child brain. I did have the 128k spectrum though.

I remember having to wait until my mum and dad had finished watching neighbours before they would let me put the c64 on. most games took an age to load sometimes

Then the load fails and you had to rewind the tape and try again.

    Ah:

Wikipedia: "The datasette's speed was very slow (about 300 baud). Loading a large program at normal speed could take up to 30 minutes in extreme cases."

4x slower than the ZX Spectrum, then.

    Anybody?

I'm actually playing Last of Us at the mo', but would like to know UC3 is actually working. I dled the SP (12gb), 2D movies, and the MP. Any specific order I should install them? My previous attempt at installing the SP ended in error so I've set it redownloading.

@VideoGameAddict25 - you need the single player, 2D movies (or 3D, I suppose, if you have a 3D telly) and the free multiplayer download. It does say about that last part in the info on the store, though I read it just as carefully as almost everyone else...

I don't have a 3D TV but do I still need to download the 3D movies?

I'm having trouble with Uncharted 3 too. It downloads the game plus 3d and 2d movies but when I go to install the game it disappears.

Do I really need to download the multiplayer too?

    Help!!

Do I have to download all 33GB to play uncharted - I didn't see an option for anything else! I don't really want the films or multiplayer - what a bonkers way to do things!

I hope it's to give users the option of downloading what parts they want!

@gammonbanter - you should find there are 3 separate entries in your download list: single player, 2D movies and 3D movies. You don't need the last one, but you do need to go and download the free multiplayer from the store in order to see the icon on your XMB.
