Scuse me for being a tard but how exactly does PS+ work? Can you keep the games or do they delete themselves off your HDD after a time?

It's this service that's making me keep an eye on Playstation, if they do a similar thing next gen I may be interested in getting my first Sony console since PS1.

If you get a game for free it'll stop working after the sub expires.

If you get a game at a discount, it's yours to keep forever.

each month new games are added if you have ps plus you stick them in your download list and as long as you still have ps plus you can play thenm. If your subscription lapses you can't play anymore but the games remain in your download list so you can download and play again if you get plus again

Dont kid yourself, Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, hed eat you and everyone you care about!

...but the free game will become available again if you ever renew your lapsed subscription.

It's very generous, almost to a fault ;)

edit - that made more sense as a reply to dominalien..

Aha, very nice. Would be nice if MS did something similar but I can't see it.

I think I'll be watching what Sony do very carefully next gen.

Typical...Held off buying Sleeping Dogs until yesterday when I saw it on Zavvi for 15.

    Unbelievable!!

Still good for folks who didn't buy it tho.

@Boab Yeah, I'm thinking the same, having bought Sleeping Dogs, Wipeout 2048 and F1 Race Stars towards the end of 2012.

Not a patch on Sega Allstars Transformed and quite bland, but it's free.

Thanks that's actually really useful. Got my PS3 and PS plus subscriptio at Christmas and was hoping that Dead Space 2, Space Marine, Darksiders or Stranger's Wrath might show up at some point but I guess repeats are unlikely.

Still, I'm hoping for Assassin's Creed 2 soon!

Got a ps3 today. Games I bought with it aren't coming in a while, so I was thinking of signing up to + for a little bit. Two questions:

    - Is there a free trial period when you first create a PSN account? (ala 30 days of free XBL Gold when you get a new gamertag?)

    - If not, do people here routinely buy instant codes for PS+ as people do for XBL gold? I always have on Xbox to save a bit of money and protect myself from auto-renewal.

    Thanks

You can get a 30 day trial for plus from the Playstation Access facebook page. There's a link for Free PS+ Trial.

@imamazed Alternatively, you can grab a 90 day sub for 8 (down from 12) from Wednesday for 2 weeks.

@HiddenAway Yeh I ended up getting a 12 90 day sub straight away, but I think I'll just get another 90 day on wednesday for 8 and stack in on top (you can do that right?).

I did apply for the free trial, but I didn't realise it took 7 days to come through, so I bought a 90 day sub. When it does come through, I don;t suppose you can stack a free trial on top of the sub?

@imamazed You can stack paid subscriptions on top of your current subscription but I don't think it'll work for the free trial (I think you have to be a complete fresher to PSN+ to take advantage of it)

@dominalien They've already made some strides with the Vita. I've seen patches download along with the main game.

    @HiddenAway

That's true. Unfortunately, they're unlikely to effectively compete with MS on the sleekness front, and we all know there are only two points on this scale: either something is the best thing evah, or it's fucking shit, even if the latter is 99% as good as the former.

    Riddle me this.

Sleeping Dogs shows as about 7.2gb.
I have 8.6gb free space on the hdd...it won't download due to lack of space.

I don't have to have 15gb do I so it can download the bloody thing and then have enough space to install the bloody thing.

    Bloody bloody bloody.

That's fucking stupid. Install as you download, you fucking stupid system designers.

I literally can't download it then, and I won't be able to in my PS+ sub period, as I've got shows on the PS3 I haven't watched yet, don't have anywhere to save them without having to buy more storage (negating the cost of the free game) and everything else is taken off of the hard drive. Brilliant.

yeah you do,cause it needs to actually do the install and have the download file on, it then deletes the download file when you install it. So yeah in total you need 15.6 gig

"purchase" it then you can download it whenever you want as it'll be in your download list, got Mortal Kombat in that way (still haven't downloaded it)

I won't be renewing PS+ though. Mainly due to shit-slow download speeds and this constant issue of not having enough space. There's no point me buying a hdd for the limited lifetime the PS3 has left just to get some 'free' games as by the time I've taken into account the cost of subscribing and the cost of buying a hdd, I might as well have just bought the games.

Which, for this generation at least, I can still resell afterwards.
