    Thought Fernandinho was excellent tonight.

Fuck me, you can't argue with Barca when they're winning, but their football isn't half boring. The way they kill entertaining sides with measured passing is impressive but oh-so-dull.

Yeah, those poor players they got with very little continental or international experience. Cripes, really punching above their weight.

I've never understood the 'experience' angle.

    It's still fucking football.

    The referee is the liability!
Was Pellegrini reading Eurogamer at some point during the match?

... I totally agree that the referee from the word go was giving Barcelona plenty of free kicks that would never ever have been given in any English football match.

Not a fan of Manchester City, but watching Barcelona play the way they played last night then tumbling over when they were barely nudged was frustrating and ultimately, very boring.

I just heard on the radio that Barcelona were trying to get Demichelis's red card overturned.

    ---------------------------------------------------------
    He totally called it

Hah. That's some major trolling. They've seen he's shit and want him to play. It was a red, tho not a penalty IMHO.

But I just can't watch Barcelona anymore. The flapping about is beyond pathetic and coupled with their boring style, I'd rather watch Stoke on a rainy Monday night.

Felt a bit for Demichelis, Kompany put him in that situation with his awful positioning.

But yeah, he's still a fucking liability - almost as bad as Savic.

    Hated, adored, never ignored.

Apparently, the rulez are that if a foul continues on as someone is running then the foul should be given at the point at which the attacker falls/play ends. So, in that regard, I guess a penalty was the right decision. I certainly didn't think that to begin with. Didn't think there was a foul against City in the build up though.

It is boring but City players did it too.

Total mismatch in that game, it seems. Shame.

Just watching the build up to the penalty again, beautiful diving and rolling around by Navas. Except it's only Barca players who did that and the ref had it in for us.

If you were Demichelis why the hell would you take down Messi in the box, thats a guaranteed red and a goal. Why not just take him down earlier or let him through??
Taken down outside for a free kick, inside for a penalty, or just let through to one-to-one, he would've scored either way.Don't make no difference to him.

Yea they were one of the worst teams I've ever seen in the CL. Considering their position in the Bundesliga it really is baffling.

I guess the bundesliga must not be quite as strong as they like to make out. Appears to be a two team league as well.

That's clearly a joke, as Memichellis is a terrible player that no-one should have heard of. I doubt they'd try overturn a red if Yaya got it.

Mentioned that either here or in the PL thread. Bayern are so far ahead commercially that they can pick up the best players from their rivals, who are left feeding off scraps.

Yes, Dortmund had a good period as they had a strong group of players but with them being broken up now, they won't challenge Bayern for a while.

Interesting to hear Pep talking about Lahm in the fake holding midfielder role..

Basically, good players play good irrespective of position.

That's when Wenger trots out his "intelligent" line. That players basically should be able to play anywhere as long as they have the nous to adapt.

I suppose; When you see teams train now, irrespective of whether they're centre backs or strikers, it always looks like they're playing the same game of piggy in the middle

Think Xavi said that was pretty much the focus of their training at barca; 5 foot passing.

Within reason of course. No point expecting Walcott to play CB etc

I'm fairly sure that doesn't make sense :)

But there does always seem to be one team at any given time that manages to scrape to competitive parity with BM. Of course BM then buy all their players so you are pretty much correct.

    Bayern make Arsenal look dicks:

Want another reason to like the Bundesliga? Bayern Munich have subsidised their fans' tickets tonight, with the German supporters paying 45 euros (37), rather than the 75 euros (62) charged by the Gunners for the last-16 first leg tie.

"This is intended to represent a small thank you for the great support of the followers in the past calendar year 2013," said Bayern.

The club added the move will cost them around 90,000 euros (74,000).
