Yep. I'm sorry but Neuer should have got a yellow. You can't run over to the ball and jump on it, preventing a restart, and get away with it. The ref was just wildly inconsistent throughout.
It is an astonishing result for Arsenal, I thought we were going to get absolutely spanked. I did enjoy Bayern totally shitting it.
Strange game, superb scoreline, great defence but Arsenal's front 6 were useless. -

Registered 10 years agoI think we might be overplaying the significance of time-wasting somewhat. It's annoying, but not that much of a game-changer.
I do agree Neuer should have been booked, but that would have been sufficient. -

I think it's a load of bollocks tbh. Teams like Bayern and Madrid have always been able to knock us out, and Italy are still a bunch of wank. -

I think he's full of shit as usual. It's a knockout competition and sometimes a few teams from one division get knocked out at once.
Arsenal went out on away goals and Utd were pretty unluck anyway so it's not like they all went out like City. -

Domestically, week on week performances arent what they were as recently as a few years ago.
I say our teams have got worse, our elite teams have got worse, the rest of the league has actually improved somewhat and are catching them.---------------------------------------------------------

Registered 7 years agoIts also, after this long, inevitable that other teams are going to catch up somewhat. There are a few teams in pretty poor leagues that are in the CL year in, year out and financially building on that and starting to compete.---------------------------------------------------------

Registered 6 years agoUtd should still be in the competition (IMO they would have won had the ref not sent Nani off) so all this talk of decline is a bit premature. If English clubs don't reach the later stages of the KO round for the next few years then I'll agree. -

Registered 7 years agoYeah and arsenal shouldnt have lost 3-1 in the previous tie, so that puts them through and if Chelsea hadnt got rid of RDM, they would still be in there, so thats three teams through to the last stages.

Registered 10 years agoApart from Man U who had a good chance of progressing, the other English teams have got worse or are in transition. Could even say Man U are slipping back into that, young squad, few players short. Chelsea have some squad coming through. they will be right back up there. Arsenal, no need to open that.
Germany has always been strong and their great team philosophy and style of play is shining through. They always pop up with a new team, competitive league but players usually get picked up before they dominate.
Spain will always be there and Madrid were never going to stay quiet forever. Enough talent to trouble anyone on the day.
Never underestimate the Italians. Great, bad, who knows, works sometimes.

Next year approach for the same teams
Chelsea need to go back to their super ultra defensive 10 men behind the ball game plan and use a big striker upfront to hold the ball up and score late headed goals, ideally from corners (Lukaku instead of Drogba?)
City need a new manager who has some idea how to play in Europe.
Arsenal need to realise that CL football is about playing well both legs,
and the first leg is just as important as the 2nd.
Manchester United need to avoid Spanish teams -
