Surely the simplest solution would be just to make it so less teams can play in europe so the best teams play each other more often.

    Dortmund play some lovely football.

    Hellooo?

Great pass by Modric for Real's second goal.

Edit: Oh. I'm not alone :)

Adrian Chiles is such a fucking useless prick.

I shouldn't have to quantify that statement, but in case anyone is still unsure as to the stupidity of this man, a man paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to front their CL football, I give you his latest brilliant piece of observation:

"Well Panathinaikos are losing to Arsenal. I bet they're glad they're not Swansea"

Sums up ITV nowadays. A bunch of work experience kids would do a better job.

Good half from us. Better spirit and determination in our play.

Missed Rosicky, played really well at the end of last season.

From what I can tell finishing first or second really makes no difference in terms of the quality of teams we could face as it stands.

I hate it when it looks at the camera to do a link, his voice goes very quiet and s l o w. Whats going on?? He was talking 'normally' a second ago.

We still look very nervous. And I don't feel confident about us seeing this out. That said...not sure I want us to. Having looked at the tables, I'd rather come second I think. Most of what I would call the 'better teams' are in second place. I know that can't really be the case as, well, they're second, and we'll get Barcelona if we finish second, but this is the first year I wouldn't have minded coming second.

Rosicky is such a good player. We need him back and fit. I do hope that's just a tiredness 'injury' and not an actual injury.

Not so concerned with coming 1st, think you're right about the stronger teams seeming to be in second, but I'm desperate for a win. Whatever you think about Wenger, this immense pressure on the team is not helping so it's vital we start relieving some of that. Failing to win tonight would just add to it all.

COME ON SCHALKE!! 195 bucks if you get another goal!!

I dunno. I do see what you mean, totally, and would normally agree, but I don't think a draw tonight is the end of the world. He's picked a much weaker side - yes I know the press will have a field day, and so will some Arsenal fans, but I'm not taking this as an 'Arsenal' game really. It's very nearly a B team out there. Still strong enough to be beating Panathinaikos, and should be, but not the end of the world if we draw...

although they've just scored. Scratch what I've just written. We're shit.

    Urgh. Come on Arsenal..!

Defeat would be a bit of a nightmare, lets at least get a draw. So sick of all the negativity in the press and twitter after every game. Don't care whether it was important or not, just really wanted to see an Arsenal win! Come on, at least make sure we don't see an Arsenal loss.

    Olympiakos with 65% possession...

I know they're at home, but still.

Gervinho is so poor. So, so poor. Every time he does the same thing; slows it down to a walk, tries to entice the player to tackle him, and then tries to push it past them. Except that never works, because that's all he does, so they just lean in to him a little bit and knock him over.

Ha. Man City totally threw that game so they didn't end up in the Europa League. Can't say I blame them either tbh.

Not bothered about the defeat, just happy to be in the draw for the KO round. Weird but I think we're better off second (PSG, Dortmund, Malaga, Shakhtar, would rather avoid Barca/Bayern) than first (Juve, Real, Milan, Gala, Porto, Celtic) so there's not much difference really.

I imagine the papers tomorrow will be more concerned with the English champions finishing winless and bottom of their group despite their infinite resources.

Given the poor state Panathinaikos has been lately, you are probably right; too bad you were playing against Olympiacos instead.

    I jest.

On a serious note, this game was more important to us than you, as we wanted to increase our chances for an "weaker" opponent in Europa League. If Arsenal were in any danger of not qualifying, it would be a different match with a different result, most probably.

ITV after the game said we could draw Utd in the next round.

It's like they're consciously trying to be as uninformed and amateur as possible.

Man City losing tonight gets them out of the Europa League. If they want to win the Champions League you'd think they'd want more European experience. Not to mention the Silverware. They may want the Premiership more but with the squad they have they should be looking to win more than just that.

And Schalke. Southgate did at least put them right.
