I was a bit hesitant to order after it was found out you can't actually play them, and then they weren't in stock anymore from Play-Asia. I noticed plenty of them in still in stock here though.

Registered 6 years agoHeh, it's so dodgy they still don't even mention anywhere that these don't actually play the game. Still wouldn't mind a set though, could be a collectors item. -

Registered 3 years agoStill got a pale blue Super Mario Bros. G&W. Excellent condition, but I don't think it's worth much. Preferred Donkey Kong, but lost it ages ago.
Brings back memories of high score battles on school coach trips. *sigh* -
And related to this there was also another Iwata Asks posted recently with a few pictures of the original design documents. These would be worth a fortune on eBay now.

Registered 6 years agoSpeaking of Ball, anyone in the US grab one of these beauties?
I tried and failed, US addresses only, so bought one off ebay for £30. -

Registered 11 years agoIt's strange what associations lie buried in your head for years, only to be unleashed by random threads.
Reading the words 'Game & Watch' was like opening a cupboard with 'embarrassing school memory' scratched furtively into the wood and being buried under the messy recollections that came tumbling out.
Not being able to afford a game & watch, yet being deeply addicted to videogames, I tended to be fascinated even by the idle attract mode of the things. So when a classmate had some Snoopy game blinking through the motions on her desk, I kept looking over at it.
So she loudly accused me of trying to cheat by looking at her work and I wasn't believed when I denied it and said I was looking at her Game & Watch.
I've never liked them since
In the unlikely event that Marina is an EG lurker, I have a message for her 12/13 year old self - I was telling the truth, you mean-hearted cow!-- boobs do nothing for me, I want moustaches and chest hair.

Dear Marina,
I have spent millions developing time travel and incorporated it into my PS Vita so that I could come back here for 2 reasons:
1. To show you how poor your sodding Game & Watch is compared to what I will have in the future and
2. SLAP ! You're a bitch
that is all. -

Registered 2 years agoLast year I found Boxed Donkey Kong and Zelda at a car boot sale.
"How much for your Game and Watch" I asked.
"My what?" came the reply.
"These 2 things here" I replied (now thinking Bargain Ahoy!)
"Oh you can have them for 2 quid each"
I didnt have the heart to haggle... -

Registered 5 years agoI had the Mario bottle factory. They were so desirable. -
I used to have the one set in a construction site, I think it was purchased with my old man's first ever PC to shut me up.
No idea where that went. -

That was Mario Bros wasn't it? The double screen one with a sort of maroon case?

I had that too. That was my only one for years and I played it absolutely constantly. I adored it. Then years later I got the Donkey Kong Jr single screen as a present and that also got rinsed.
There was something very special about the G&W games. Even though they were so much more basic than what I had on my Spectrum, they were absolutely my preference. They were just so pure and incredibly responsive, and quick to pick up and play.
There was also something incredibly pleasing about the double screen ones. Lovely bit of kit. -
It is starting to come back to me and yes it was a Mario one! I forget what you had to do now but I think it had something to do with a cement mixer? I do know for sure that I put a fantastic amount of time into it and I think the mother even picked it up for a bash every now and then.
I really wish I still had it now. -

Registered 10 years agoIt was blocks on a conveyor belt and you controlled two blokes each side, and you just had to go up and down to make sure the blocks got passed along, and didn't fall on the floor. Eventually you filled up a truck. -

Registered 2 years agoThere is a Game and Watch Collection for Nintendo DS. Think it was a limited edition for Club Nintendo in Japan - can probably find it on ebay for a pretty penny.
Seeing as the DS is more or less the same design its probably very good - they are still suprisingly playable. -

Registered 10 years agoActually we might be talking about different ones. I think there were a few that were based around construction site type things.
Quite tempted to get one off ebay. -
It was the truck I was thinking of not a cement mixer! Brilliant, it is slowly coming back to me.

Ah, now I've seen a picture that wasn't the one I had.
Simply titled Mario Bros:

Just remembered there were levers in it. -
