Hopefully it's a deal similar to Blizzard's and Activision are a bit good at marketing multiplatform FPS games so they fit Bungie in that regards. Still don't trust 'em but hey, let's see how badly they start gouging for the DLC packs before judging them.

My question is how does this effect their deal with MS. Don't MS still have first refusal on anything Bungie ever do? Or was that a timed-exclusive deal?

These boots end up making you control like a jockey ridden survivor from L4D2. A year from release, a sequel will be released featuring a new set of boots with a new button on it.

    Something similar to this?

Modern Warfare fans? There could hardly be a more different approach to fpses than Bungie v IW.

If they are funding or offering any kind of investment, they will be poking their nose in and try to direct the boat.

Because you're all acting like someone punched your mum.

That would have a least deserved the tears that are flowing in here.

(and it would've been funny, too)

I hope for their sake they've got clauses aplenty in that contract.

    ...

I can't help but think that perhaps Bungie is successful because of Halo rather more than the other way around. What blockbusters did Bungie do before Halo? Oni? Myth? Marathon?

I'm wondering if this'll turn out more like Bizarre Creations signing with Activision.

Children can give a fuck too you know. Might want to rephrase that. ;)

I'm still confused. Bungie were done with Halo after Reach, and it's MS IP anyway, so what exactly is there to be upset about?

Are people annoyed that Marathon 2 might be multi-platform or something? What exactly is being lost?

  • Deleted user 29 April 2010 13:46:20
How did Microsoft benefit in any way from letting Bungie go independent? They've dropped the ball in the past in relation to first and second party developers and looks like they've done it again.
  • Deleted user 29 April 2010 13:46:38
I think the question you have to ask yourselves:

    Is Bungie the new Rare?
  • Deleted user 29 April 2010 13:46:55
I, for one, welcome Bungie to multiplatform development.

This is pretty incredible for Activision. There isn't a publisher around that wouldn't want to sign Bungie. Quite impressive that they've managed to do it in the middle of the IW shitstorm. Though I bet there's a few Bungie employees that are wondering what they've got themselves into...

MS kept the Halo licence and were meant to have first refusal on any future Bungie games. I assume that's no longer the case. I also assume that some Bungie guys now work for 343 studios.

Following the release of Halo 3, Bungie announced it was splitting off from Microsoft and becoming an independent limited liability company. While Bungie remains involved in the Halo series by developing games such as ODST and Reach, the rights to Halo remain with Microsoft. To oversee everything Halo, Microsoft created an internal division, 343 Industries,[66] serving as “stewards” for the franchise. Frank O’Connor, formerly a Bungie employee, now serves as 343’s creative director. (c) Wikipedia

We've known about it for months now.
