Yes it was, and it was a cracking phone as well. From there I went to the N95, the N95 8GB (still a great phone, and the one Mrs Hermit still uses), the N96, the N97 (pile of shit), N97 mini (not quite as bad), currently on the N8 which is quite frankly a superb phone. And in a little over 2 Weeks I'll have the Lumia 800. And hopefully something a lot more exciting this time next year.

What's so good about the Lumia 800?

I'm really tempted by the Xperia Arc S but Orange don't appear to be stocking that any time soon (direct at least) which kind of stops me from upgrading to it.

There's nothing fntastically special about it, other than it's Nokia's first WP7 handset. Spec wise it's on a par with all the current WP7 handsets, but it is an absolutely gorgeous looking phone. There are a couple of Nokia exclusive apps on there, their streaming music service looks quite cool.

If I wasn't such a Nokia fanboy, I'd probably wait until the Omnia S is released though.

My shiny new Lumia 800 has arrived. Fuck me, it's gorgeous. The photos don't do it justice at all.

Will probably pop into a phone store this weekend to have a look at one. About time I decided on a new phone.

Had a play with the Lumia 800 in a phone shop. It's really a lovely bit of kit, isn't it? The Pentile screen is a minus, but it's not as noticeable as it is on my Desire. WM7 is so smooth as well - it may not actually be as fast as Android on, say, a Galaxy S 2, but the constant smooth animation without any skips or jumps makes it feel like it is a much faster device.

It needed to be pushed more, it is a beautiful phone and should have been splashed all over billboards and TV excessively.

I know this is old, but I just noticed. Believe me, Android is nowhere near smooth on the Galaxy S2. I don't think you shoul worry about how WP7 works on the 800 :-)

To be fair the Lumia 800 came late in the year and not in all territories. The results for Q1 2012 should be more telling.

Nokia 808 Pureview. 41 megapixel camera.
    O.o

Edit: smaller res images achieved via interpolation using clusters of sensors for just one pixel (greatly reducing noise), digital zoom is incredible apparently. Massive sensor on this thing.
specs: Symbian Belle (possibly Carla by release)
    1.3 GHz processor (ARM11?)
    continuous auto-focus in 1080p
    improved microphone
    Dolby 5.1 (so presumably HDMI)
4 inch screen but usual Symbian resolution
    USB OTG

Symbian Belle? They're still using Symbian?

    Oh dear.

I don't mind Symbian really though Maemo/Harmattan would've been a nice development. This tech is bound to happen to Windows Phone once it catches up with Symbian. This phone looks like it might be pretty ugly though.

Symbian's still my favourite mobile OS by far. Extremely light on battery, insanely customisable, very stable...

I shan't be going back to a Nokia for the foreseeable future. I think Nokia have had their time and that was back in the days of the 3210. I had an Express Misic up until about 18 months ago and it was truly awful. I doubt many people even consider a Nokia when upgrading these days. The mobile market's moved and and Nokia are lagging behind. Just my opinion, mind.

No, only ever used E-series here. My E71 still remains my favourite smartphone and still does things iPhone and Android haven't caught up with

We don't talk about the N97.

I think even Nokia pretend it never existed. When it worked it was okay though. I used one for a year until my upgrade to the N8.

Heh, sorry about that. Changed to GHz now.
I presume this is still an ARM11 core as it doesn't claim otherwise anywhere. The white one doesn't look that bad at all. Looking forward to a few decent reviews of these things.

Now Apple can no longer say their camera on the iPhone is 'amazing', 'magical' and the 'funnest'.

Oh, and do not forget that the impressive camera shall be making it's way to the Apollo version of Windows Phone 8 in about six-seven months time!

I really do think Nokia can turn their fortunes round ... in good time.

I'm still amazed the Lumia 800 didn't come with the killer camera the N8 had. If the Lumia 900 had been the launch phone I think they would have made a much bigger splash.

I do actually think they will turn it around in the end. WP is a very nice OS , despite lacking a few features compared to ios / Android .
