Has EG lost the community spirit?

    To me EG isn't what it once was. There is no community spirit any more a lot of this is due to Groups as a lot of the regular members have gone to them and some rarely post outside their own little worlds now.

    Back before the Groups this place was much better everything was posted out for all to see and not hidden away.


    /just feels like EG has lost what it was.

    Everybody has secrets, life would be boring without secrets, don't you think...?

    Yes, it still has community spirit, but as you say it's now smaller communities in particular groups. Can't really have 400,000+ members and retain what it used to be like.

    It’s just the natural evolution of a forum as it grows, you can see the same thing for every other forum on the internet. Groups is a symptom, not a cause imo.

    Spend a week on another forum and you’ll soon change your mind about the spirit on EG. It’s different, but it’s still EG.

    EG is like a nice quite pub that has grown into a big busy nightclub. And certain groups are the pub regulars carrying on their ways in the broom cupboard.

    Most of those 400,000 are beta key grabbers though each time EG do one of those people sign up to get them then piss off and some sign up with loads of accounts using mailinator.com and grab a ton of them.

    Nah, it's a lovely place here.
    I got free games sent by lovely mods, people are always willing to help each other with problems, and we are always ready to tear into wankers like Biggsy who turn up every now and then, and have a thoroughly amusing time doing so.

    I'd still say there is significantly more active users now than there used to be a few years ago.

    Like kalel says though, compare this place to some other forums and it's still very nice here.

    Certain threads, as rmj says, have great community spirit. And on the whole this place is pretty good. Petty arguing happens everywhere but it's nothing really.

    I also agree with bigshot, I've had games sent for free, loads of swaps, made lots of friends here that I'd be happy to go for a pint with in real life, etc.

    There's a lot less cuntishness on the forum in the past year or so, imo. There seemed to be a competition for a 'top cunt' crown a few years back, and a desperate search to uncover whipping boys. Seems to be friendlier now than ever, to me.

    This post is unsuitable for those with a high rumour-sensitivity.

    The fact that, 18 posts in, there is no mention of the words "fuck" or "off" is pretty strong that EG is, in fact, not what it used to be.
