So apparently the "new" Silent Hill game is... Silent Hill 2 HD. Maybe.

Urgh I hope not, it's great how it is. Seems like a waste of time. Where'd you read that about?

Hold on, Homecoming lost the '5' designation and was marketed as such, almost as if Konami realised they didn't have a worthy successor.

This one might not get a number at the end either.

    Flawed logic.

SH 4 wasn't even supposed to be SH game at first, and certainly wasn't a worthy successor. It still got the '4' though.

Why are they talking about Silent Hill on a Crysis fansite?

For the vast majority of it's development cycle The Room was a Silent Hill game, the only time it was undecided was at the planning stage. It has too many ties to the series to have been anything but a Silent Hill game from the point development moved beyond the planning stage.

There really is no comparison between 4 which had a great story and Homecoming which is abysmal in all respects.

    Fair point.

It still wasn't a proper SH sequel though, yet Konami still saw fit to number it as such.

Konami really need to come up with something new, even that Lord of Shadow game has to be called Castlevania cause they're afraid of launching a new series. I think there is a two game rule in terms of knowing when to pack it in with a franchise, two games in a row that fail to deliver, it is best put to rest.

From my perspective they've pretty much wasted the best part of this generation, complete opposite to the risks they took with their wonderful early PS2 games.

It is this lack of investment and risk taking rather than any talk of a decline in Japan is the real reason why big Japanese publishers like Konami have suffered in the West in recent years.

I just want HD remakes of SH2 and SH3 on the PS3 then they can put the series out of its misery.

Some possibly troubling news from Kotaku, via 1Up.

According to 1UP, the next Silent Hill game is being developed by Czech studio Vatra Games.... In the likely event that you've never heard of Vatra, the studio describes itself as "built from both industry veterans and new talent," lead by Matthew Seymour, formerly of Take-Two Interactive and Microsoft Game Studios
Hmm. They're the same people doing the Rush 'N Attack remake.

Another report from Joystiq implies that the game may be based on Silent Hill 2 and speculates that another re-imagining of a previous game—a la Silent Hill: Shattered Memories—could be in the works.
    I really hope this isn't true. I don't want/need my SH2 memories soiling.

An HD remake of Silent Hill 2 would mean me having to buy another console:
One to play the game, the other to rest my diamond-cutter on.

I disagree about SH4, it had the heart of a Silent Hill game, it was just a botched game on top. The story and cult backstories were as Silent Hill as they come.

I never had any problems with it TBH. The Room bit was ace and a new take on the whole SH myth, almost deceptively so if you know about the layers of silent hill theory.

I have never played a bad Silent Hill game. It just became the done thing to say it got shittier as it went along.

    A lot of negativity here.

Since Silent Hills downward spiral (Silent Hill 4 onwards) surely the only way is up.
I'm thinking..... no. 'Up' would be something of a surprise.
