The only saving grace i would give to fans of the series is that IGN also gave I am Alive 4.5/10. Its a terrible review and the score is WAAAY off.

Might be worth waiting for a few more reviews to trickle through......

Yeah their "I am Alive" review was shocking. But i'm betting reviewers are more lenient on Download only games then full retail price ones. May hit a few 6's but it's not going to be the 9's I was hoping for. Still saves me a few pennies I guess!

I think Silent Hill series is on its arse, tbh. After reports of the lacklustre HD collection, and another shoddy sequel, there's not much left to look forward to.

    Quite a positive review overall.
He says something right at the start that got my attention :

I'll admit that I was prepared for disappointment with Silent Hill: Downpour. In fact, I was ready to despise it.
If your expectations are ever that low, you can always be pleasantly surprised by something.

Hardly surprising though, the past few SH games have either been shite or Marmite.

I'll be waiting for a drop in price for this one. Will be interesting to see what EG say, though.

Defo a 18 game for me, along with the Darkness II

Masahiro Ito was probably the best designer in the series probably due to the fact the monsters were tailored around James psychological tendencies.

But you'd think that with the main character being a prisoner that you could have some really weirdly designed ones

Gomez for example  Fairly generic humanoid in doll type mask.

Ito. I think its the abstract nature of it that I like the best.

Still its getting praise for its story and exploration of the town which at the end of the day is what I like about games.

Caution, HD introduces bugs, kills immersion. jesus wept, Konami (neogaf has examples). :(
Also...WTF is Castlevania: Lords of Shadow sequel? :|

@Machetezo Ah fer the love of hamburgers.

Remember when Konami used to publish really great rock solid games?

The HD collection just gets more and more disappointing the more I'm hearing.

Heh just seen this review on Metcritic

    ccrogers15 1
I was gonna get Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City, but i seen it got panned so i picked this up instead, not a good idea. At first,i had no issues, but later on it got so buggy with time, and its just not scary with the glitches, crappy sounds, etc. My recommendation? Dont buy a konami brand game ever again. Several of us fans are so angry right now, and dont get me started on the forum riots about this. Konami has released a patch and guess what? It did not work at all actually. Some problems. I was so exited for this game, but it turned out, that playing the old ps2 versions are so much better. This game is not worth your time at all actually, in fact, i suggest you smash your fingers with a hammer before you buy this, at least you wont be giving your money to konami or hijinx. I am so mad right now konami! WHY? WHY DID YOU LET A THIRD PARTY DEV WHO ONLY DEVELOPED 1 GAME DO THIS? THEY DEVELOPED A FROGGER GAME! AND THERE WEBSITE DONT WORK! WHY????!!! FIX IT KONAMI!! FIX IT!

Yeah, it's really disappointing. I was looking forward to the HD collection more than Downpour, but they appear to have screwed it up quite a bit.

I'll just play it on PS2 again instead, most likely.
  • Deleted user 23 March 2012 10:44:15
@psychokitten Probably the best option really. At least that way you won't be subjected to any of the edits made i.e the supposed cut of pyramid head and the mannequin scene and the original voices etc.

Spoilers (sorta), but I assume people will have played SH2 by now. Here's a perfect illustration of a screw up

    Original:

    Scary, dense fog.

    New:

It's like they never looked at it after they did the work and thought "Hey! This looks really dumb!"

    That new version looks horrible!

It seems as though its barely rendered. Also I really don't like the new voices for eddie anyway.

Designer for Silent Hill 1-3 can't believe Konami thought to release the game (HD) in its current state.
"Left side is HD, isn't it? It's poor," he stated. "... It's really a released version? Really?"

When informed that the screenshot was indeed from the final retail copy, his reaction was pretty self-explanatory. He simply exclaimed, "OMG!!!!" He would then go on to say that Konami did not have to release a version in that condition, further expressing his surprise at the port job.

Yeah, it's depressing, that's someone from GAF tweeting him.
Masahiro Ito has done some amazing work so it can't be fun for him to see it in this state.

It looked more like James was rowing towards some kind of vortex rather than a lake.

    Looks awful.

Couldn't find a specific SH HD thread...

I cancelled my Silent Hill HD preorder on Amazon yesterday and I've gone back on the site and noticed that the release date has been removed from both PS3 and 360 product pages and you can no longer preorder it. Probably means nothing but I thought, given the current furore surrounding the collection, that it was a bit curious!

It's definitely related. Amazon in the US have removed the game from sale after receiving numerous complaints (and have been accepting returns even if they've been opened), and it seems Amazon UK are following suit for now.

    Hah!
I feel so disappointed, despite it just being a HD rerelease it was one of the releases of early 2012 I was looking forward to most :( :(

And there's me thinking i'll get the HD collection over Downpour, since I thought that Konami couldn't fuck up SH2.

Hmm it looks like they have, even after it being delayed quite a few times, I think I'll cancel.

Proper lol at the NeoGaf thread. Someone comparing the water effects in SH2 HD to F-zero on the SNES :D

Oh, so they *did* take it on Amazon UK then? So effectively it's delayed again.

Yeah, that NeoGaf thread is hilarious and sad.

They are taking it a bit far, aren't they. The few that are enjoying the collection are getting a serious beatdown.
  • Deleted user 26 March 2012 00:22:02

A Broken Wheelchair. Whats this doing here?

Hmm wonder whats going on with the removal of the collection on Amazon? Hopefully we may end up getting the collection we deserve after all. I'd love to see the room included too but I'd be happy with a working collection.

Anyone remember the burping nurses from 4 too
