Not getting anything from NOD32. If it's a false positive it's a problem with avast not EG.

    Not necessarily a false positive.

True but its far more likely than a virus on EG. Not too mention a lot of people here use a lot of different AV software. More than one would be going mad if there was a genuine virus.

Edit:@Jetset: With Avast or a different AV?

Avast doesn't tend to false positive and nod does miss things, also worms are not unheard of and can easily creep into a banner ad. I've got the whole lot blocked so I couldn't tell you, but it's very possible.

Me too, avast blocked the ad on the right of the main page.

Edit: It's here on the forum too

I know NOD can miss things but an error in the latest update could easily false positive. NOD and avast are not the only AV software people are running. Surely if it was genuine not every single one other than Avast would miss it.

Well, it's gone 9 - no staff looking into this yet? :/ Don't want to be delivering undesirables into the fans lockers during the game.

Agreed but come on, whats more likely. One AV program screwing up or all but one screwing up?

Microsoft security essentials found a threat when I logged onto EG this morning but thought it was just a coincidence.

oh dear, opened up EG in a test box and as soon as i hit that ad in the background, the browser (firefox) autoclosed. that's generally not a good sign, but I'm having a look at it.

Well if other software is picking it up too I guess it really is just NOD missing it.

Who's the go-to contact on this? They obviously don't read the bug reports.

Avast has been flagging up that some adservers are spreading malware about so it's quite possible it's legit.

    This space left intentionally blank.

Surely that can't be from this site? But it just popped up now as soon as I went to Eurogamer.

I think my banners are auto blocked, I'm running Outpost Firewall Pro and ESET smart security 3.0 and haven't had any alerts.

Although I did block some strange javascript request earlier maybe that was it...

As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a ninja.

    Hello,

We're getting a few reports and are looking into it. From what we can tell it's a false positive from a particularly complex skyscraper ad being served on the site.

There's something weird going on as well as this thing - the way I view EG is in a little window so it looks like I'm emailing someone or whatever, doing work and not browsing. The page keeps jumping around in the window. I'm not explaining this very well am I

Yeah I think mine must be from some other site. I thought you couldn't get these sorts of virus' if you didn't download anything?

It's ok. Paperghost is on the case. I'm eagerly awaiting his blog post about how the evil Eurogamer is spreading malware to unsuspecting gamers

I think mine must be from another site, I remember visiting what could be some particularly dodgy site via a link from another forum.
