Nintendo have chucked out a ton of limited edition 3DSs. Literally, at least 50 of them. I can imagine that'll significantly effect the re-sale value.

The Animal Crossing one ended up being desirable and held value exceptionally well.

    Amazon marketplace prices!

My Zelda one has held it's value pretty well too.

    Amazon Marketplace

I think for fans of certain franchises limited edition consoles are a great idea, because they're (shudder) a bit like badges or fashion accessories. I think despite the large number of them, most will still retain a relatively high price for quite a while, particularly as time passes and certain designs become more scarce.

Still no 'clear' 3DS yet. Would look dreadful, but I made sure I had a clear Gameboy Pocket and Color, back in the day.

Streetpass is so mysterious. I stuck a 3DS and an XL in my bag today and not counting each other, the 3DS streetpassed 5 people and the XL streetpassed 3. Only one overlap. Weird!

Any pictures of them all together?
I remember a great shot of all the gameboy SP varieties.

Streetpass seems to be incredibly low bandwidth. I quite often get a hit in one game (usually mariokart) but them not showing up in the main streetpass app, and even then I only tend to get hits in shops and places - never when I'm walking between places.

    Agree
I like ltd consoles and if I were to buy another XL it would be a ltd one.
I own a Gears of war3 360 (with Gears sounds!) and it is lovely, also a white ps3 slim. It makes fuck all diff to a game of course, but I like them. I always wanted the yellow Simpsons 360...not a chance.

Do you reckon the white limited edition Mario Kart or Mario Land XLs will hold their value much, or too common?

Strike me that those aren't really limited edition in the same sense as the Triforce SP or some of the other limited edition XLs, cos you can't identify the game series by looking at them. More just a new (slightly rarer) colour.

But who knows, ever since the hideous Pikachu N64 I've always tended to dismiss special editions, yet that was a big hit (and it still worth a penny or two second hand).

Edit: And some of the colours of N64 are worth a penny or two more used on Amazon. No sign of my late gen blue and white unit on there, but I suspect that's not worth as much as it was out for longer than the full colour units.

I agree, it doesn't even have a unique design, it's just white.

The reason I ask is I'm debating whether to get the black and silver, or white.

Any of you guys seen the white one and the black and silver in real life? If so, which looked better?

Depends, they look very different. Do you like white consoles? The white XL is white inside and out. I've got the black and silver, which imo looks great, but some might think it's a little dull compared to the other colours. But that's exactly how I like it, because it's the one that looks least like a Fisher Price toy. :)
  • Deleted user 10 November 2013 00:34:22
Haha, good point, the red and blue ones do look pretty Fisher Price :D

I generally like white consoles, I even have a white Japanese PS2 that I think looks great, and Nintendo consoles seem to suit white particularly - probably because of the NES/Gameboy heritage.

So I like the look of the white, but I generally prefer black frames as it provides a nice contrast to the screen, and the picture seems to pop more with a dark frame.

I had an ice white normal 3DS, and the one thing I liked about it was the black frame for the upper screen.

I picked up a Fire Emblem 3DS XL today for €240. That's actually a pretty good price new as it goes for over €300 on ebay and over £300 on Amazon Marketplace.

Fire Emblem really is excellent (although that's not exactly news), and has now overtaken Golden Sun: Dark Dawn at the top of my 3DS most-played chart, thankfully. Seeing that at the top always made me wonder how I managed to put so many hours into a game and yet remember so very little of it.

Can I ask if anyone here has ever played an Inazuma Eleven game? Are they any good? Are they just management games or rpgs as well or...?
I know I could look this up but, I value EG opinions more.

    @TheMayorOfJugs

I've played the first Inazuma 11. It's a pretty decent football themed rpg. It has a lot of reading in it and is fairly linear plotwise. The football battles are good fun and the longer matches are even better. However, some of the longer matches are frustrating due to having fixed events that can only be overcome via using certain moves etc. Well worth picking up if you can find it fairly cheap. I may pick up the sequels if I can find them for £10 or less.

Crumbled and picked up a 3DS XL today, ended up getting it for a good price with a bit of faffing.

Argos have the console with the both the layton games on offer for £160.

I had a £10 voucher, and managed a quick sale of both games on ebay for £45.

End result, console for £105. That'll do.

Now. To wait for Zelda or splurge on Luigis Mansion tomorrow.

I like the way you think.

I'm holding off on a next gen purchase until the Spring so have a bit of extra cash. I really have not made my mind up which one I want, waiting for some more game announcements.

In that case I'd like to heartily recommend you Ocarina of Time :D

Other than that, Street Fighter 4, Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart are the obvious ones.

    @PrivateFloyd

Hmm. We'll I love Project X Zone. Steam World Dig is very good but ends all too quick. OOT is a fantastic game, but I have no idea how it would be playing it for the first time with no nostalgia. I really enjoyed NSMB2 and it has some excellent DLC. 3d land is superb but it never quite clicked for me.

I spend a lot of time playing Eshop games like Mr Driller, Kirby star stacker and Wario's Woods.
