Afaik all the class stuff only really applies to high-end cameras and HD filming. Shouldn't really make a different at all to loading times on the 3DS.

    Thank you,

Didnt think it would but thought best check as i will need a new SD Card come the 'free' download, as still using the original 2GB.

It does make a difference. Maybe only a few seconds difference for some stuff, but it's faster. Given that the cost of say a 16GB Class 4 SDHC card is only a little less than a Class 10, I'd go for a Class 10. Not sure you'd see any appreciable difference on the fancier stuff, even if the 3DS could support higher speed.

For most android phones, I remember reading that class 6 are probably the best option as the average speed was generally higher on those than class 10 cards, the latter achieving faster speeds on certain file transfers but, overall, significantly worse performace. It was on xda forums with branded, high quality SD cards. I imagine the same will apply with the 3DS.

If they're following the standard, then a class 10 should be faster than class 8, which should be faster than a class 6. If not, then what use is a standard? Different brands may perform differently. Different sizes may cause a difference too - bigger SD cards are slower? Not sure on that.

Went with class 10, 16GB because only 1.50 difference between 4 and 10. But 12 more for a fancy card so class 10 be fine.

    Yeah, you'd think so but this (admittedly, initial post is 2 y/o) thread suggests it isn't that clear cut;

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15269669#post15269669

General crux being Class 2 and 4 cards have better random access speed and random read/write than class 6 or 10 cards in general. To get higher sequential write speeds, manufacturers sacrifice the random access speeds, speed charts, and more.

In reality, I think for use in the 3DS, any quality SD card above Class 4 would be fine. Uncited, but I remember reading somewhere that it's a silly argument anyway, as phones have bandwidth bottlenecks that prevent much of the higher speed access anyway, and the 3DS may suffer similar bottlenecks.

I think that the actual errors were down to Atlus's own coding, so I don't think they've shafted Ghostlight or anything like that. NIS published Persona 4 Golden over here too. :)

I just want everyone to know that I'm in gaming heaven right now playing Mario 3d and Luigi's Mansion 2.

They are both utterly brilliant, I've been playing both with a permagrin.

Get this quality onto WiiU and I'll be very happy.

    As you were.

Good to see more people enjoying Mario 3D Land, I thought it was utterly brilliant when it came out. My copy of LM2 arrived the other day, but I'm right in the middle of Layton (which, after a slow start, I'm really getting into) so that'll have to wait.

Seems like the XL battery is actually much better than I thought. After nearly four hours of play (with wi-fi on and brightness level 4), it had only dropped down to two bars, and turning wi-fi off gives it another significant boost - the original 3DS would have been long dead by that time, even with wi-fi off. Okay, so it's still not exactly great when compared to ye olde Nintendo handhelds, but a huge improvement over both the 3DS and Vita.

Seem amazon are in on this promotion deal, recived an email from them, saying since you just brought LM2, you are part way to being entitled by the nintendo promotion. Guess they don't miss a trick these days.

Found 3 coins I was stuck on in Mario land in a few minutes of playing on my new XL

    Money well spent!

I had a horrible feeling when it displayed a data error when it loaded my Mii plaza (over 450 streetpasses, thanks to Tokyo subways and PAX) It prompted me to create a new file, I declined, and everything seemed to load fine

Oops! Probably worth pointing out that you can backup your 3DS SD card by just copying everything on it to your PC, and a couple gig's unlikely to break the bank these days. Not sure, but I think your streetpass Miis are on the SD card, rather than the built-in memory.

Edit: The class tells you the minimum read and write speed. It doesn't tell you the average speed, and in practice most flash memory is faster at reading than writing, so the read speeds are almost certainly faster than the class on the card. Personally I spend more on getting a card from a manufacturer with their on flash fabs (Sandisk and Samsung in the main for me) rather than on extra speed from a company with less control over their supply chain, given the amount of dodgy flash chips and controllers out there.

I'd like to enjoy Mario 3D but I don't want to pay 30 quid for an old game. I'd grab it for 15 in a heartbeat.

Also agree on battery, I'm pleasantly surprised.

@yegon Interesting. I suppose the main thing is that stuff written to the 3DS SD will probably be written once and read many times, so write speed isn't so important. I see that line you referred to about 2 & 4 have better random access speed, but the stuff posted by others -particular those tables- suggests otherwise. The stuff in those tables (and posted by other people), suggests higher classes have faster reads. Maybe that 2 & 4 thing was just one guy's experience, and like I said, brands are often different. I'd still say, for just an extra quid or so, go for a class 10.

Aah right fair enough. It's years since I read that thread, I didn't remember others getting contrasting results.

I'd also say it's definitely one of those games that's worth 30. And remember, after you're done you'll get a high trade-in /sell price for it too.
