Just clocked tales of the abyss. Definitely had its ups n downs

Ups - really good combat once you know how it all works
    Good story and characters
Beautiful graphics and use of 3D
    Nice voice work

Downs - they expect you to know things out of nowhere, the amount of times I had to google my problems such as where to go next or what to do now etc. very annoying

Sometimes the conversations go on forever!!
Every time someone says something you have to keep pressing A to get through the conversation - no need when the voice work is on.
Those bloody annoying skits. Also no need.
Jade looks like a girl and has a girls name. If you didn't have the voice work on you would be thinking why are they referring to jade as 'him?'
Also one of the most emo games I've played

In the end I would give it an 8/10 because for all the misgivings there's a great game in there.

Loving my XL it's a far better experience. Was just playing Mario Kart 7 on it and was noticing short cuts that I was missing. That probably says more about my eye site though.

Also finding that the slide pad is improved, I find aiming in Starfox much easier. It's less springy.

    Battery is definitely better.

    A worthy upgrade.

Yeah I'm really glad I upgraded. As its also like experiencing it all from scratch again. I'd not switched my previous 3DS on for about 6-8 months before Luigi's mansion arrived. Impressed with the content on the shop and I've quite a lot of titles I want to play.

Weird thing is I'm loving Mario 3D land and when I first played this on release I seemed to be the only person who was underwhelmed by it. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it at the time.

Glad everyone is liking the upgrade. I picked up Paper Mario Sticker Star today and for the hour I've been able to play today its been enjoyable. Its nice to be able to look at my 3DS collection and see some quality games sitting there and thats not including whats been announced. Good time to have a 3DS even if its taken Nintendo a while to catch up now all they need is to improve the Wii U.

It's weird to think that there are suddenly a whole bunch of games coming out/newly released that I want on the 3DS, given that I have hardly played on it since last summer.

Incidentally, what cases do people use for their 3DS XL (if indeed you do use one!)? The choice seems so poor, but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.

I dont use a case personally, its either in my house or in slip in my bag when I'm out so not to worried if it gets scratched.

So I've had a 3ds for just over a week.

Amazing games. I have Mario, Luigi's Mansion, Ocarina and Monster Hunter so far and they're all fappin' brilliant.

I was so skeptical at first but a couple of years worth of back cat, lot's of upcoming games and the updated hardware has made this the best time for me to participate.

I never get that bit right.

It's not so much to stop it getting scratched, since it folds over its own screens anyway, but for keeping it attached to the game cards. I'm tempted to make my own although I have a feeling it will look like the work of a lesser Frankenstein.

I don't bother with a case. I find the moment I stop faffing about trying to keep a console pristine is the moment I really start to use it in earnest.

Plus the design of the thing is self protecting.

Anyone know how much space download versions of retail games take up?
Was going to pick up a 32GB SD card and dowload Resident Evil and Virtue's Last Reward, just wondering how many other games I could fit on it.

According to wikipedia the maximum size of 3DS carts is 64Gb - that's 8GB! Although I'd assume a game like Virtue's Last Reward would fit in 1GB easily enough.

FWIW I have all the ambassador games, all the videos released, about 10 demos and Pullblox and Fallblox installed and I just ran out of space on my original 2GB card. Transferred to an 8GB card I had lying around so I had space to pull down the Fire Emblem and Monster Hunter demos. I should really clean off most of the older demos - I think the only one I've deleted so far was Farm Simulator 3D.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

    @santashi this is the one I bought - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360594621287

Literally only functions as a soft skin to protect against little bumps and scrapes and doesn't fit your needs of also serving as a home for carts.

Still, better than nothing and *very* cheap.

I bought a black wallet (from play.com) and a blue dsi xl system wallet from amazon. Purely just for safekeeping at home. They only cost me a fiver each but more than happy with them.

@Murbal Thanks! That definitely is cheap. I've got a while to give it some thought, anyway. :)

Edit: And thanks for the suggestion as well, addyb.

Fwiw, I've got this case from Amazon:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-Carrying-Nintendo-Officially-Licenced/dp/B0050SVPCO/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1365760344&sr=8-14&keywords=3ds+xl+case

It's a generic DS case, but seems to fit the XL almost perfectly, and looks inoffensive enough.

I quite like the look of that one, Kay. I'll see if it comes back in stock.

It's nice that Project X Zone is getting an upgrade to include an art booklet (or at least, the US version is).

    Hi y'all, quick question.

I'm really tempted to get a 3ds now that Fire Emblem is due, do the bundles with the game installed not have a physical version of the game at all? This would put me off (and probably mean I get a standard edition and game separately).

    Thanks sexys

Yes, assuming it's the same as the Mario Land and Mario Kart pack-ins, it'll be an installed copy, not an original copy.
