I think the latest Layton game is awesome- I go back for a fix of the daily puzzles every few days, my save file is at about 25 hours now, with 300 puzzles still to go!

Chaps, thank you for info. Lastly does the XL have any other reason to buy over the standard size 3ds, screen is given of course ;)

some people get hands cramps from the original 3ds Which they've said they don't get with the xl.

Also, the start, home and (unused) select buttons on my lauch date 3DS are starting to get a little saggy (apart from the select button), being membrane keys. The XL has proper key caps on those buttons.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

The XL is just awesome to play. It's streets ahead of the original one IMO. I don't own one but have had a go and it's very, very nice.

Yeah, slightly pixellated screens aside, it's much better than the original. I thought it'd be too big and heavy for me but you get used to the size.

Once again cheers lads. I think the 3ds is a better looking machine than the XL, I had one for a couple of months, before selling (of course!) but I obviously want to own the better machine.

I live in hope that Ninty will let me get my hands on previously owned content. If that happens I'll buy an XL same day.

Amazon are selling an XL, with Super Mario 3D Land and one other free game, though that's online, obviously. I'm not sure how good a deal you'd get at GAME or HMV and I can't really think of anywhere else worth looking.

Game are selling the white 3DSXL with either Mario Kart 7 or Super Mario 3D Land pre-installed. I think you're still able to download a free game from the Nintendo store as well.

I bought one last week with Mario Kart pre-installed, then downloaded Super Mario 3D Land. Not bad for 170!

Yeah, now is a good time to pick up an XL- is the deadline for the free game upon registration the 17th?

A couple of people I know went for the Mario bundle then downloaded Layton.

Up to 27 hours in Layton now, some of the daily puzzles are getting really tough, very enjoyable.

I'm really not liking my 3DS XL, Super Mario 3D Land looks particularly awful.

    Get bent.

Really? I think it looks fine. More pixelated, but not massively. With the 3D on it looks great.

I upgraded to XL over Christmas and wouldn't go back. 3D effect is much better on the bigger screen, the all white version looks nice, and it's much comfier even with the added weight. Only bugbear is the slightly loose hinge, but I'm kinda used to that from the old model. I think complaints about the low ppi are a bit overstated - it's about the same size pixels as a regular DSi was.

Downloading Layton now. 6000 blocks seems like a lot. I've still got 94000 blocks remaining, but it still feels like quite a dent.

For comparison (as it's what I picked for my XL freebie), New Art Academy is just shy of 3000 blocks.

Have you played much of it? I did consider getting it, but I already have that Colours! 3D app to paint with. Though it's completely tutorial-less.

Only tried the first lesson, but it seems aright from the POV of someone with no artistic background. I had been thinking of picking up the cart before but kept putting it off but having it always there for a quick go as a download swung me.

That and the fact I'm only halfway through the first Layton with 2 more on the shelf meant the latest can wait.

I took Art Academy too. Wish I had just taken Mario 3D Land and sold my boxed copy, not impressed with it. The 'lessons' are just copying from one screen to another so far and the interface is quite laggy.

    Read the reviews

I can't really blame them too much, the DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSXL all played the same games, so surely the similar looking and named 3DS is just the same as them?

And Nintendo go and make the same mistake with the Wii U /o\

Amazon had the Ice White XL with Super Mario 3D Land up for 142.49 for about an hour today. Chuck in a free copy of Layton that Nintendo are so kindly giving away at the moment and me thinks me got a bit of a bargin there. Especially as they're selling the standard XL's for 164.99....

Promptly received my xl and it just looks and feels so much better than the orig. The little things like the improved slider just make it a lot smarter.
Still keeping the original for NDS games.
When I was transferring the data I kept thinking to myself 'why did I do this? All my save files wont be on the original!' Then after a long while I realise save files are stored on the friggin cartridge!

    Anyway, awesome bargain. Fantastic product

It does, but since it has a higher res screen, it will either upscale them for you (and lose a little definition) or run them in super-micro 1 to 1 mode, assuming your prescription's up to date. Personally I can only notice the loss in definition if I do a 'side by side' comparison, so I normally run in fuzz-me-up fullscreen mode (the default).

Nope. But I didn't qualify since I have a standard 3DS, plus I didn't apply, so that's probably why. They screwed me over with the free Kid Icarus though, took me weeks to get support to acknowledge me, then weeks more until they fixed it.

I just found out that on the 3DS eShop, Wii U videos are locked the same way the games are on Wii U. I tried to watch the trailer for Bayonetta 2 on the eShop, and was told it was time restricted. Same with the Activision Wii U reel. Yet it only seems to apply to Wii U content - you can still download the Resi Revelations demo or watch videos for mature rated 3DS games. Seems a bit silly to me :p

We're talking about the XL screens here. DS games run in 1:1 mode are the same size as playing on a DS.
