    Any of you folks set up a homepass relay station?

    https://github.com/Matthew-Hsu/PiPass

    Thinking of trying this out, have a raspberry pi that is sitting around doing nothing, and i am sad about getting about 1 streetpass per week (and its the same fellow, thank you gus from spain)

    @THFourteen I still have no idea how streetpass actually works. Had my 3ds since October. I know you need to have it on standby and take it out and about with you. And I think once or twice I've had a message on the home screen telling me I passed someone else using it. Beyond that I'm stumped.

    Is it communicating with another 3ds using Bluetooth? It can't be Wi-Fi as I only have my home network saved and it can't connect to random free Wi-Fi without permission. Can it?

    What are the benefits to using it?

    Benefits change on a game by game basis. Some leaderboards in games would be formed by streetpasses. Some games would give you access to content other players had already unlocked.

    Mainly its for collecting puzzle pieces and playing the street pass games that Nintendo themselves released, but ever since the 3DS hot spots went down it has again become harder to make progress in those games.

    @DangerousDave_87 Ah, cheers. Does Pokemon use it? Basically the only thing I play on my 3DS.

    @THFourteen I set it up for a while, not sure if it was that version or not, but I remember it being easy to do and worked fine. It just takes ages collecting all the puzzle pieces.

    @Jim_Dix it communicates via wi fi either with other people who also have a 3DS or at Game. I'm not sure exactly how it works but it will pick up Street Pass wi fi relays, there used to be more of them at railway stations and McDonald's but now I think it only works at Game.

    @midi82

    Yeah i found another one called RasPiPass which i set up yesterday, it was pretty easy to set up, just download and burn an image to the SD card and boot up your pi, you dont even need a screen connected to it as it has a remote web interface.

    Thing is i wonder if the list of hotspots is out of date because i didnt get a single pass between midnight and this morning, and it should have cycled a few hotspots at least...

    I am not actually that fussed about collecting puzzle pieces, i just like getting other peoples Miis and seeing the green light!

    in 3 months of carrying my 2/3DS i've barely got any Miis ;-(

    I haven't had many streetpass hits since they shut down menu most of the hubs. I used to get 10 per day no problem.

    Although people don't want to hear it, the 3ds is on its last legs. It's all about the Switch now. I'm not sure if that means 3ds games will increase or decrease in price due to being harder to get. I'm sure the second hand market will chug on for the next few years. The back catalogue could keep you busy for several years if you're able to find the games.

    Go stand outside a Game shop and you'll get streetpass hits. I completed the tile collecting puzzle in a few weeks that way.

    @Jim_Dix I don't think the newest Pokemon games offer any streetpass features at all, but I'll leave that question for somebody who's actually played them!

    I am not sure they'll get any cheaper - i bought pokemon sun for 30 odd and sold it two months later for 28 on ebay, nuts.

    Having said that the games i've been collecting recently are all pretty cheap, also got the DS back catalogue to work through as well.

    It could easily keep me going for another two years, am sure i'll get a switch at some point this year though which will relegate this to the bookshelf i guess.

    @Jim_Dix

    Very good. One of my favourite 2d Zelda's. Some people thought it was a bit easy or fragmented.

    Now I have a hankering to play Disgaea. Dunno if I should boot up my DS copy or wait for the Switch version.

    @Jim_Dix Yup it's fantastic. One of my favourite Zelda titles tbh (including console ones).

    Kirby's Blowout Blast from the Direct looks interesting. I had a lot of fun with the Kirby 3d Rumble mini game from Planet Robot and this looks to be similar.

    I'm kinda sad the 3DS never got a Golden Sun game...

    Here's hoping the Switch gets one!

    Is this console worth buying now? I got a switch and am tempted to wait and see if the games get ported to it. Also, if one were to get a 3ds xl, is it worth getting the new one for the c-stick? i can see the original 3ds xl goes for quite a bit cheaper.

    @foster2007 The c-sick was only utilised by a handful of games, so isn't hugely important. The major pluses for getting a 'new' 3DS are for the improved 3D viewing angles and the SNES Virtual Console. It depends on how much you value those additions.

    New 3DS is worth the extra cash if you are interested in one of the best games ever, Majora's Mask 3D. And there are some more games that use the C-stick, plus the SNES games if you are interested in some. Plus, the 3D is far more stable.

    Ever Oasis looks right up my street. It seems my 3ds is going to live on longer than expected.

    Super Metroid currently 3.59 on New 3DS, as part of Nintendo's E3 sale.

    Also on Wii U but as this is a 3DS thread, I thought I'd leave them out 😉

    But why not on a normal 3DS?

    Have Nintendo done a typically Nintendo thing and only release SNES titles on a 'New' 3DS. And limit the potential customer-base significantly. Because that would be very much tnem.

    Yes. That is exactly what they did. Sadly, no sarcasm needed.

    Because the 3DS didn't have the cpu power for emulation that was satisfactory and accurate enough for them (they don't want oldschool hacky ZSNES/SNES9X type emulation that just went for playability over accuracy in the early days when they ran on low spec CPUs), it was old hardware when it came out. The cpu boost of the new 3DS allowed it so they get it and standard 3DS doesn't so sadly us normal 3DS owners miss out but it was better than having substandard or glitchy emulation IMO.
